lexdisic Posted May 9, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2014 Hi I have received an e-mail this morning offering free gratuities, free cabin upgrade, free business class upgrade and now free beverage package. We all know that there is no such thing as a free lunch and a free drinks package is something that I would not be able to take advantage of as I drink very little. Celebrity has gone down this route and essentially 80% of PAX have it, and fares have gone up accordingly to cover the cost. It seems to me now that I will be subsidising the drinkers unless of course the package can be removed as with the air fare, although the Celebrity alternatives offered are very small in value Does anyone think that Oceania will be going the same way as Regent,Azamara, Celebrity etc., and going more/all inclusive ? I am looking for a cruise on Nautica for 2016, but this could be a deal breaker for me as I will be paying for something I really dont need and why I have not looked at Regent before. What next ? Included shore excursions? Your thoughts ?
waterbug123 Posted May 9, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2014 Hi I have received an e-mail this morning offering free gratuities, free cabin upgrade, free business class upgrade and now free beverage package..... a free drinks package is something that I would not be able to take advantage of as I drink very little....could be a deal breaker for me as I will be paying for something I really dont need Your thoughts ? My thoughts are that if you are getting a free upgrade to business class air, that FAR outweighs the fact that you won't actually take advantage of the free drinks package, or any price increase that might cover those drinks. Look on any airline website and compare coach to business for a transatlantic round trip flight- the difference is typically $3000-4000.

turnip eater Posted May 9, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) Where is/are the cruises on offer? Baltic? It's too soon to see what offers, would be included for 2016. :) The drinks package inclusion is interesting. Our friend has just phoned and has forward an e-mail with these offers, but it states £99 upgrade to business for Intra Europe flights, plus upgrades to Veranda and Concierge. lexdisic Posted May 9, 2014 Author #11 Share Posted May 9, 2014 Its not very clear on this copy but the first figure is the bonus savings per stateroom with the second being the price of a veranda stateroom per guest. Personally I would prefer an a la carte system so I can choose my own amenities and have a lower base price - I can see the advantages to some people though, its just not for me however. turnip eater Posted May 9, 2014 #12 Share Posted May 9, 2014 As you are not looking to book any of these cruises, it won't matter about these inclusive deals. Speak to a cruise specialist travel agent for your interest in a 2016, although it's early days yet for information. If you do not want to have, say, the included flights, you can have a credit for them. The included drinks packages are a new one for me, so it may be a one off.:)

The included drinks packages are a new one for me, so it may be a one off.:) I realise I can get the air fare taken off, and no I'm not interested in the cruises they have on offer, but the question I posed was - will Oceania be going in the direction that other lines are going and that is of making it more/all inclusive. As I also pointed out - Celebrity give you a choice if you dont want the package, and that amounts to a poultry $300 per cabin, whereas to a drinker the package is worth $1500 each. Agree it is early days but I hope this is not a test run of things to come.

turnip eater Posted May 9, 2014 #15 Share Posted May 9, 2014 My take is that it is a marketing exercise to sell cruises that are not selling very quickly, but that is just my opinion.

Rare LHT28 Posted May 9, 2014 #17 Share Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) Thanks for posting the offer It looks like marketing ploy for those specific cruises ... there will be some very unhappy people that are not getting the new perks ;) I would think the prices will not be any different, you just get the perks so you are not really paying more but you are gaining in perks whether you use them or not You can compare the prices if you have an old brochure with those sailings No one knows what the next game will be from Oceania Lyn Edited May 9, 2014 by LHT28

I surely have not gotten any emails anything like this one Oceania Cruises are sold and promoted very differently in the United Kingdom. United States Pricing does not apply to British passengers, and neither does the free airfare deal or most of the other promotions that we see. It isn't surprising that their marketing does not apply to us.
