Jiffymom Posted August 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2014 Arriving five days prior to cruise will do a road trip. Boston to Vermont over to New Hampshire then to the mid coast of Maine back to Boston. Have not picked our hotels yet. We don't go till October of 15? I know I'm excited planning early. We were in Maine 1995 and we could stop in some great lobster shacks and have huge meals for 9.95. Yes those were the good ole days. So do you recommend any fun lobster shacks reasonable along our travels
Nitemare Posted August 14, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) Best lobster I've had in New England (and I've eaten at dozens of places) is at Red's Eats, on Route 1 in Wiscasset Maine. Here's a blog that has lots of info on places to get lobster rolls: http://lobstergal.com/ she hasn't updated recently, and I don't always agree with her. I think Belle Isle (in a new location across the street from where it was since she posted) is the 2nd best I've ever had and she didn't like it. Other ones I liked were at the Clam Shack in Kennebunkport, and The Lobster Shack at Two Lights in Elizabeth, Edited August 14, 2014 by Nitemare

Jan_In_Maine Posted August 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2014 We stopped there early this summer - it was packed - but we had a great time! Jan
VidaNaPraia Posted August 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2014 Hard not to get it right with a basic boiled lobster..... Saw restaurant/shack 'twofers' recently (in more touristed southern Maine) for $15.95/pp.
ctjon Posted August 22, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2014 The lobster dock in boothbay harbor is superb and the view is even better
chengkp75 Posted August 22, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2014 Prices in October will be higher than summer, just because the guys go out less when its cold. Lots of places will do 2 chix for $12-15 mid-summer. Lots of the coastal shacks will close up at the end of September. Lobster shack in Cape Elizabeth has great views, but is overpriced, and not sure if they are still open in October. Cook's lobster shack on Bailey's Island was always great, haven't been there in a few years (tend to cook my own). In Portland, Becky's Diner does a good lobster roll, and the Guinness battered fried lobster at Bull Feeney's is to die for.

Jan_In_Maine Posted August 25, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 25, 2014 How far are these from the cruise port??? Thank you, Karen Beal's is in Southwest Harbor - which is on the Island, just a little over 14 miles away. Trenton Lobster Pound is near Bar Harbor airport which is off the Island about 12 miles away. (about 20 minutes by car) depending on traffic. Probably would have to rent a car, unless there was a tour that went there. Jan
