We have lots of OBC from Princess and I'm wondering....can we use this for our tips?

Tips are taken from your account and if there is a credit this will reduce but see the thread 'going back to old obc rules' for more information

The auto tip is taken from the "pool" of OBC associated with your account. I find that I don't have a problem with "extra" OBC as tje auto-tips tend to eat it up. Of course we haven't taken shorter cruises. We did have one that was only 4 days but, other than that, they have been 10 days or 15 days. That does tend to eat the OBC fairly efficiently just for auto-tip.

Depends on the type of OBC. Check the thread "Back to the "Old" OBC leftover policy." Stockholder benefits, for one, cannot be used for gratuities. Don't know about all the other rules.

Stockholder OBC is just like any other credit; it's a credit. And your charges are deducted from credits. All of your charges, including gratuities. I've been a CCL stockholder since 1998 and have been amassing thousands of OBC $$$$ since the program started in 2001.

I hope this applies on our forthcoming cruise, as the terms and conditions of the shareholder (stockholder) credit States that it cannot be used for casino charges and tips.

We shall find out soon!

The "terms and conditions" has been saying the same thing since the program started. The OBC system is just a simple debit/credit and has no way of differentiating sources.

I wonder how Princess will differentiate between refundable and nonrefundable OBC on the running tally on the folio.

You are mistaken. What you say is how it has been implemented lately, that you can use it for anything, but according to their own terms/rules, that is not how it should be. If you check the application for Stockholder OBC, it says:

This benefit is available to shareholders holding a minimum of 100 shares of Carnival Corporation or Carnival plc. Employees, travel agents cruising at travel agent rates, tour

conductors or anyone cruising on a reduced-rate or complimentary basis are excluded from this offer. This benefit is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash and, cannot be

used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account. Only one onboard credit per shareholder-occupied stateroom. Reservations must be made by

February 28, 2015.

.

So you see, it is quite reasonable to think that they may start restricting Shareholder OBC, since that is what it says in their own rules, whether that is what has been actual previous usage or not.

Evidentally, from what others are now saying, the system has changed.

As of last Tuesday, the old system was still in place.

I hope folks who are currently cruising will report how the new system is implemented. For instance, in which order do they apply the credits? It sounds like it could be a bookkeeping nightmare and cause a lot of confusion on the part of the passengers and staff alike.

We can all read the official form, and have....but as I asked before....Did you have a problem with this? How recent?

When did it change? I disembarked on Saturday; two days ago.

Cugina...the last few pages on another thread discuss the latest info from Princess which said all types of OBC can still be used for gratuities even those with exclusionary statements for things like military & shareholder OBCs from being used for gratuities.

Pam started a thread that they notified passengers on Saturday (Royal Princess) about most types of complimentary OBCs not being refundable & in the above thread it was posted that cashing out complimentary OBCs in the casino is no longer allowed.

I don't know if the NR policy is a test before going fleetwide because I have not read about it on other ships. Although it's such a recent change we may not have any reports yet...to be continued! ;)

Pia, I think it just changed. We disembarked on Tuesday and it was still under the old policy, but some folks are reporting that this changed Sunday.

If what I was told is true and they do apply the non-refundable OBC first, most of us will probably never notice the change. For instance, we both get Military OBC and that is refundable, so if all of the non-refundable has already been applied we could still get $500 cash back at the end of a 14+ day cruise.

Not that we would ever have $500 OBC left at the end of a 14+ day cruise, but if we did, we could have it refunded.

I think the only people who will actually notice are those who remove their Auto-tip and try to cash our their OBC. Hopefully this will encourage folks to just leave the Auto-tip alone.

This is not the case on the CB yet. Casino cash-out is still being allowed.
