Definitely seems to have been a pretty hefty price increase to coincide with this "deal".

It may look that way but I booked way in advance for feb sailing. I keep track all the time. Prices went down once and I snagged a balcony instead of my inside. Ever since the prices have continually risen. I checked again today and the price has actually gone down some.. I still have the better deal but unless youve tracked the prices right along you do not know the price hike you see coincided with the promotion.

I just checked our cruise in December on the Breakaway and the fare went up by 10%. So it's a wash. Plus we would lose the OBC we already have. Seems like the price went up by the amount they are giving you back in OBC. Why bother.

Sounds like another RCCL coup. They are doing the same with their WOW promotions...WOW meaning WOW, look how those prices sky rocketed when they introduced the promotion.

So true...when my TA priced the Breakaway for us, we also had her price the 9-night cruise on Liberty of the Seas as well as the 7-night Bermuda cruise on the Grandeur our of Baltimore. RCCL has the third and fourth guest in the same cabin sailing "free" but miraculously their cruise fare for the first and second has nearly doubled from what it was last year on the Grandeur to Bermuda for the same week. The Liberty is also a lot more than it used to be, but I didn't price that one last year so I'm not sure if it's double or not. All I know is the Grandeur would cost the same as the Breakaway anyway even with the third and fourth sailing "free", for the exact same cruise but on an older ship with fewer amenities. And the Liberty would have cost DH and me $2000 more than the Breakaway for just two more night. No thanks. Not a deal!

Just checked about 10 sailings on a couple ships and interestingly enough there were price increases on 9/24 and 9/25 about 10%.

What are the rest of you seeing?

My escape cruise increased, but not enough to cover the 10%. I just re-booked and got the deal. Came out ahead, with the price increase, by $250. Edited - also, the prices on the NCL site do not appear to be correct as my cost is $120 less than what was listed ....

No deal for us. Our cruise went up by over $300, to get an OBC of $200 or so. Plus I'd lose the $100 OBC we already have. So the price I'm currently booked at is still the better deal.

And I agree, seems NCL is taking a few pages out of RCI's WOW sale theory -- let's slowly jack up the prices right before these 'sales', so people will think they're really getting a deal. No thanks! :rolleyes:

Looks like I will be calling NCL when I get home from work. Our cruise has increased by less then $100 but we would receive almost $200 in OBC. Since that would pay for our DSC, it's worth it, at least to me.

Remember that you cannot use NCL OBC to pay for DSC

Real nice promo NCL; here is the price history on a 2016 POA sailing (that the promo applies to) that I've been watching. Prices are for a balcony.

Price Created Updated

$ 2,569 2013‑12‑11 2014‑07‑14

$ 2,649 2014‑07‑14 2014‑09‑24

$ 2,789 2014‑09‑24 2014‑10‑01

$ 3,149 2014‑10‑01 2014‑10‑01

Price went up 12.9% overnight ($360), more than the actual "cash back" amount will be under this "sale".

I'm convinced I'll never see another sale from any line like the one that got me on the Getaway this past summer. $5,200 for 3 people, Haven Courtyard Suite, plus drink and dining packages. Wasn't a last minute booking either; it was from their big sale earlier this year that included the UDP/UBP for Haven guests.

LOL ... I find the "deals" that get offered are funny. Any recent ones that I have checked have calculated to cost me more as the price got inflated beyond the cost of the "offering". For this particular offering the cost per person has increased more than the 10% I would gain ... I'd lose $50 pp.

Too funny. I guess with this type of marketing knowledge is power.

Royal isn't quite this bad; I checked all of my Royal bookings (as well as some I've been looking at) and the prices had went up before the sale even started. I found a number of cruises where the cabins were actually at their historical lows during the sale.

I can't complain (too much) if Royal bumps the prices some when doing a BOGO sale. If the deal were that much better than what existing people paid, there would be a mad rush to switch bookings to new cruises where the promo would be allowed (since you couldn't use it with existing bookings).

For our next cruise in May the prices went up about 5% two weeks ago. They have now gone up another 5% just in time for the sale. No price advantage at all for us to rebook for that 10% as it is a total wash :)

I just got off the phone with my TA. She looked into this for me, but she found out that it isn't combinable with the 9 month in advance suite OBC and the cruise prices have gone up since I originally booked (which was 2 days ago :mad:). Bottom line was a $7 difference.

It was worse for my bookings. At least with NCL it was a wash (if I decided to change). With RCCL, it was costing another 1000.00 more than before they began the WOW promotion and that was the case on the 4 or 5 dates we checked for various sailings. Edited by cruisecritiquer

The difference in our price for an October 2015 14 day Canada-Bermuda cruise which we booked in August 2104 was a $1,783 increase... Adjusting the new OBC of $ 765 versus the old one of $300 leaves a $465 difference which still makes the new "Special" $1,218 MORE !!

Boy, this is certainly not a good deal for us!

Our Breakaway/Bermuda cruise which has been booked since Feb and have been following all the proms/price decreases and yes increase every week, as well they seem to always fall back to the price I booked.

On the current 10% cash back promo good to 10/14 Again NCL has increased the price to not only cover the 10 % cask back but have increased the price approx $77

Here are the numbers Feb aft cabin $1148 pp taxes $307 =$2667 (round figures) less $100 OBC =Grand total $2667 for two.

Current promo Latitudes price aft cabin $1262 pp taxes $370 =$3008 - less 10% $264 = Grand total of $2744

So I think I'll stick to original booking.

Latitudes folks have to remember that they will lose their points if they booked 9 months out and are now less than.

It's all a business strategy. The cash back is not off your cruise fare, it's given in OBC. that means you have to spend the money on the ship...use it or lose it. And when most people have OBC to begin with, they tend to spend more than they would have without the OBC. Most people don't see it as paying for something they would have done anyway...most people buy something extra, whether it's an extra spa treatment, extra visits to specialty restaurants, deciding to purchase an UBP or UDP that they would have otherwise not purchased(because now they can spend what they would have spent for onboard expenses on one of those packages instead, and have their OBC cover their onboard expenses), etc. So it's a win-win situation for NCL. Just checked for us and definitely not worth it. Our prices have been going up since we booked at the end of July and they haven't stopped. Our cruise is now just shy of $2,000 more of what we paid a month ago. The OBC isn't even close to making up for the difference.

There are still tons of cabins available in our category, so I will keep an eye on things until our final payment is due (and afterwards...we got some extra OBC last year after final payment).

Plus, depending on what you spend the OBC on, it can cost them pennies on the "dollar" value - e.g. soda.
