Too many variables to list, particularly as your cruise is still over a week away.

 

Generally, the best place for a ship during a hurricane is at sea, and the cruise lines will do everything they can to get away from a hurricane. You may get additional sea days, or different ports. It all depends on the route you are scheduled for, what other ports are available and safe, time, and many other issues.

That is still a week and a half away. A lot can happen in that time.

 

The ship could decide to delay the previous cruise at sea until the storm passes. The ship could dock at an alternate port if one is available and able to take it. The storm could swing a different direction and no change at all.

 

Make sure you are pre-registered on the company's site, and that they have multiple ways of contacting you. If you can, give them your email address and a phone number where you can receive text messages. SMS messages can often reach you before anything else.

 

You bought insurance to cover the unexpected, right?

A cancellation is only likely if the departure port is affected - its happened but its rare.

And although weather forecasting has come a long way, its only likely to be on-the-day that a decision is made.

 

But your itinerary may be changed - more sea-days or alternate ports.

Its one advantage of a cruise vacation - your vacation hotel has to batten-down & sit it out but your cruise ship simply heads in a different direction. :)

 

And on even an apparently calm day, a little too much wind or current or swell can screw up an intended port call. One of the vagaries of cruising.

Just curious, what makes you think there will be a hurricane? There isn't any sign of a storm forming in the next 48 hours according to the National Hurricane Center.

Do not even worry about it . I live in S Fla and there is nothing out there. Just rain here nothing at all this year. Like the person said you are safer at sea ship can out run storm.

I don't know what makes you think there's a hurricane coming in a few days, but I just checked with the National Hurricane Center and they say there's no tropical cyclone action in the Atlantic for the next 5 days.

I agree with all previous posts. We are sailing on the HAL Westerdam this Saturday and don't have any worries. Once we were rerouted from Western to Eastern Caribbean and another cruise we went deeper into the Atlantic because of the 25' swells.

We're not going to shrink from a little rain, and we'll burn that bridge when we come to it..

A very weak low pressure system that has been futzing around the southern Gulf of Mexico for a while now was upgraded to Tropical Depression yesterday. And it is expected to be downgraded back to nothing by the end of today. Weather in Florida been more that a bit overcast as a result, but nothing remotely threatening cruise ship departures. Just typical summer-to-fall transition. If by some outrageous improbability it does strengthen to a named storm, I will personally go to the dock to congratulate the OP for being a better prognosticator than the National Weather Service--not to mention the silicone ladies on the morning news.

We once were to board a ship in FLL but a hurricane caused the closing of Port Everglades and both Miami and FLL airports. The ship was repositioned to Port Canaveral and we boarded there. Our TA was notified of the change and it was a race to get different air tickets. We boarded fine in Canaveral, had our cruise and at the end, the ship returned to FLL as original scheduled.

In any case the cruise will go on it may change ports they are to visit

 

If the cruise line cancels (rare) you will get a refund

If you cancel you are out of luck ..no refund

Do not trust weather reports that are a week away. I just took a cruise to the Sea of Cortez where a hurricane passed through over a month ago. All reports indicated another hurricane which was later changed to thunderstorms every day. The cruise was perfect with no rain at all.
