Sleeping baby in Solarium - okay?

This post reminds me of someone I know who fought with security in the evening because she wasn't allowed to take her 10 year old into the lounges on Oasis .....her argument was..."why should I be punished and not allowed in cause I have a child and can't go into the lounges in the evening cause I have no one to watch my child...so she should be allowed in with me"

On CC-the word rule has many meanings to some. It's only a rule if I want others to follow it. It's not a rule if I don't like it!! ;)

It wouldn't bother me unless the baby was crying. I have more important things to worry about...Where is the next drink, should I take a dip in the pool, which book to read next...? You catch my drift. :)

Royals Guest Conduct policy says under 16 may not use pools or tub. Royals rule is actually kind of undefined on this. So it appears a rule is not a rule when it isn't a published rule hence me asking here about practical applications.

Children with accompanying adult appear to be allowed in all venues except for disco and casino. This is highlighted in the guest conduct policy. In that instance it sounds like the guest was in the right as long as it was not the disco or casino. On all cruise lines I have seen children in lounges with parents or grandparents. As long as the kid isn't screeching I am not bothered one iota.

NO KIDS allowed in the Solarium parties....Dazzles....Comedy Club....Jazz Club...it's a bit different on Oasis/Allure...many more venues.

I'm in the NO!! Camp!!

My grandchildren will be with me on my next cruise. They will be in the family pool with their parents. If their parents want to be with me, then the 3&5 year old will go to the kids club.

I love my grandchildren and I love kids, I was an educator for 33 years! However, I like the peace and quiet of the solarium and if an exception is made for one then others want it too. Please, they have a Royal Babies nursery if y'all want adult time together or find a different quiet space.

I think you'll be fine. I've seen babies sleeping in their strollers between their parent's lounge chairs a few times. Typically as soon as the baby starts stirring a parent or grandparent will walk the baby out. There is no way a baby could sleep out by the main pool. Most people in the Solarium didn't even notice. I only noticed because they were near me.

 

Honestly it may have happened many more times than I know of and I just never noticed.

They would not have access to the suites sun deck with us, and we generally all prefer a quieter place than around a main pool...

 

There are other areas to sit and talk. You will find them. :)

 

There are very few places on ships anymore for adults only. There are signs posted in the Solarium near the doorways that say adults only. Please respect that.

You are making an assumption based on your bias. I would complain about the baby, I buy the drink package (no rum runners for me) and I only use chairs when I am using the pool! I enjoy the quiet of the Solarium and I don't want to worry about waking a baby who will start crying. There are plenty of other places they can talk with an infant!

There are other quiet areas of the ship, usually at the bow or stern. Maybe you could ask a crew member about quiet, non-Solarium spots.

I have no need to smuggle rum or anything else and DO NOT hog chairs of any sort

 

but you can be damn sure I WOULD say something about a child, sleeping or otherwise, who intruded into an adult only space.

 

as many have pointed out, the last thing we need is for the one angelically sleeping child be allowed in, then Mama bear with NOT so angelically sleeping Tiny Terror use that as an excuse to mean that her little darling be allowed in to screech it's little 2 year old lungs out.

We have no kids, and When I go to the Solarium that is my safe haven. When you go in the big main pool kids are screaming and splashing ,which beleive or it not I do mind for the most part since it is vacation.

If the baby is over 16, then sure, let him/her take a nap in the solarium. My baby is 14 and he naps by the main pool.

This sums up my feeling as well. Please don't bring babies or kids of any age (under 16) to the Solarium.

The same reason you want to use the space is the same reason others want to use the space. To get away from the "screaming" kids. I personally enjoy sitting around the main pool areas and currently have no "kids" and don't mind the noise of people having fun and the music.

 

With that being said, than why bring a baby? Babies do not sleep constant, and they will wake up. I'm far from caring about the noises of kids, but I do respect those that want to get away from it, so there is plenty of space on the ship to go while respecting the quite zone.

I follow rule threads often and not all but many folks I have caught saying one thing is not OIK but yes, teaching people how to smuggle, justify the seat save, bring water on etc.......

These same people will preach to follow the rules with one thing and often have said-oh that's OK-they never enforce that, so, yes, some here do have a double standard.

Can anyone provide me or link me to the actual Solarium policies? That would be helpful. We are data driven, rational people. Being able to definitively show GF's sister the information may "head it off at the pass". Whatever the rules may be, I would be happy to pass along, as long as they are from the company and not just opinion-based.

 

I was able to find this guest conduct policy but it only relates to the pools and tubs, but I can certainly see how anyone looking for information might think it okay to have a child in the Solarium as long as they don't use the pools or tubs.

On Allure what is the proximity of Solarium Bistro to the Solarium itself? Maybe we can find a table in a corner there out of the sun to eat, have some drinks, and play some cards while the baby naps in the stroller? Is that on the second story of the Solarium? You will be able to show them the sign at the entrance to the Solarium that says it's for 16 and over.

...and yes, the people who complain about chair hogs smuggle and the people who complain about smugglers wear flip flops in the dining room and the people who complain about flip flops in the dining room speed and...:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

 

We can always justify breaking rules because some where in this vast universe someone else broke a rule. :rolleyes:

I have seen a nursing mother / child in the Solarium. Maybe they make common sense allowances to age rules in those situations.

 

The Solarium Bistro, no issue at all. No age limits at breakfast and lunch time. Not sure if they are open constantly through the day.

 

Personally, I found it hard to find shade in the Solarium and it was hot in there too. I never used the second level, don't know if it is better or not. What kind of room do you have? If you have a balcony you might find the perfect place for people to hang out with some shade too.

 

For children under 2 Royal doesn't really have a program for them except for pay by the hour babysitting either in the nursery or at higher rates in the room; hours do vary though. Not saying you should use it or have to, just an FYI.

 

If I hadn't seen that mother nursing I might not have never noticed. I never heard the baby or saw them again. Who knows? Really, you're on a cruise. If anyones got that big of an issue with a baby in the Solarium one of the deck staff will politely ask you to relocate. It's not a huge deal one way or the other.
