Here's the reply from PRINCESS in mid March to my inquiry about SEA MESSENGER

The popular Princess@Sea web site is now live on nine ships. Using the free Princess@Sea web app, guests can use their laptop, smartphone, or tablet to easily access information about dress codes, events, gangway details, itineraries, menus, ports, weather, view stateroom account charges in real time, and more. In addition, guests can speak with other guests on the same cruise using the Princess@Sea Messenger.

Princess@Sea is currently available on the following ships:

• Caribbean Princess

• Coral Princess

• Crown Princess

• Emerald Princess

• Golden Princess

• Regal Princess

• Royal Princess

• Ruby Princess

• Sapphire Princess (English and Simplified Chinese.)

In a short time, Princess@Sea has proven to be a popular and useful innovation for our guests. Work is underway to complete installation of Princess@Sea - and in more languages - before the end of 2015.

Sincerely,

Princess Cruises

We used this when on the Regal this past March for patter information...but if I remember the on board account was not working as I don't beleive I was able to see any charges. It was neat but since I traveled with DH didn't use the messenger and by the time we got the tablet powered up and to the site I could have just looked at the paper format quicker and been on my way. I also don't recall seeing the menus on their either.

Has anyone used the message feature? I've read mixed reviews.

I used it on the Regal in January. It was tricky to set up. I had to ask the guy running the internet lounge for help, and I don't usually need help setting things like that up. But once it was set up, it worked well. I sent messages to my son, and he to me. But without notifications, you have to be expecting a message to get it. So sometimes by the time the message was read, we had already met up.

Not worth the time or trouble it takes to set the messenger up and there are still no push notifications. Not all items on the Platter are in the events section. App needs a lot more work.

One thing that was nice -- when we missed a port because of weather

-- which was announced about 1 hour before we should have arrived

-- the online patter was updated very quickly -- much faster than the

paper 'extra' was available.

On the other hand, the cruise director made a 10 minute announcement

detailing the newly scheduled activities, so you could probably do without

any patter.

I used it on Royal mainly to check my statements. No menus. It was handy when away from our cabin to check the Patter. DH usually had the paper one in his pocket. Couldn't get him to carry his phone.

I used it on Crown in February. I carried my phone and used it to check times for events, etc. No menus were available. Not all events were listed but it was handy as I often have trouble remembering what time things are scheduled for. My onboard account was available and when I was charged incorrectly for a drink (I ordered a double bourbon at a BOGO and was charged full price) I was able to see almost immediately where my account had been corrected. I didn't have the messenger app installed and wouldn't have needed to use it in any case as I was just traveling with my wife and we didn't have a great deal of need for communication other than direct speech. The only real drawback I found was that I ended up carrying my phone which normally resides in the safe when onboard.

What phone do you have?

I was on the same cruise and used my android. I had AT&T on a Samsung Galaxy S3 at the time. For what it provided, it was great. I hope they expand the information available as time goes on.

So how dose this work? Do you put your phone on airplane mode with wifi on?if so how is it free with wifi on?

Yes, exactly. wifi access is free. It is internet access that you have

to pay for.

wifi has been free on an ongoing basis, but other than go to the princess

web site, there was much need to use it.

To access princess at sea -- open a browser -- like Safari, Chrome, etc.

and visit <shipname>.princess.com (when onboard)

e.g. royal.princess.com

You can see events, etc. If create an account, and log in, you can see

you onboard account.

I have attached a screen shot of one event.

I recently come off the Diamond and it worked ok. Great for checking onboard account, and it shows you plan of the ship and where you need to be for each event that is listed. Easy to set up too, the internet manager had an A4 information sheet on how to set up. I used an ipad.

We were just on Regal 3 weeks ago. Hubby tried to access it, but couldn't get it to come up for some reason. Browser wouldn't open (I think that was the issue). He thought we should have downloaded it before we got on the ship when we had a better connection.

Would be nice if you could access this info from your TV in your cabin like other cruise lines have.

To use Princess@Sea there is nothing to download.

As a previous poster said,

To access princess at sea -- open a browser -- like Safari, Chrome, IE, Firefox, etc. and visit shipname.princess.com (example: regal.Princess.com).

Following is the screen that came up recently on the Emerald.

To get on the actual (you pay for it) Internet, click on an Internet box at the bottom.

@Sea was working STUNNINGLY well on the Ruby's 4/26 sailing, but the messenger features are not enabled yet - you can log on via the iOS app, but it just pops you to the browser and the various Patter/Map/Folio features are available.
