Islander500 Posted April 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Hi all, Thinking about booking an Azamara cruise next year - maybe a Baltic or a Southern Caribbean cruise, depending on work schedule. Have sailed on HAL, RCL and most recently mostly Celebrity ships, both M and S class. Just returned from Infinity Panama Canal cruise and found the entertainment to be mostly focused on the big shows and not much else. I hate kareoke and that seemed to be going on everywhere I went. I have read some reviews but still not clear regarding what entertainment options to expect on Azamara. A little about our tastes - we don't usually attend big productions shows, Bingo, newlywed shows, and/or other large venue events on our cruises. Our favorite performance on the Infinity was a young violinist, Amy Lee, who was really terrific. Although we prefer smaller venues with live music, but don't want to go to bed right after dinner, either. Would love to hear the types and varieties of live music venues and genres, or other entertainment to expect on Azamara. Thanks much.

Your "level" on X will transfer over to AZ ...which is a plus. You will find very small "production" shows on AZ...as the venue is so different...you can reach out and touch the performers (I would suggest you don't do that, though!!) You might find a lone guitarist playing on the back deck during dinner in the buffet area...or a DJ playing tunes "late" at night..."late" being the operative word in the main lounge area after dinner. Last year on the spring T/A there were a number of couples who enjoyed that late night dancing!! Unfortunately the huge harp in the Mosaic Venue was left all alone! I think that "perk" has been abandoned....which is sad because it was lovely. I'm sure others can give you a better "up to date" report...as this was last spring...but we are on board this fall for the Journey T/A and looking forward to it!! ellbon Posted May 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2015 only mentioning nights. .music is from 6 to 10 with breaks. . shows are about 45 minutes at 815 and 945.. that is it besides a Dj from 1030 or 1045 to about 1 am.
excitedofharpenden Posted May 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2015 I enjoy the jazz brunch in the MDR with the band. I'm pretty sure I saw Amy on Azamara. Late night in Looking Glass really does depend upon the guests at the time. Sometimes it rocks until early hours. Other times it is tamer. Late evening piano in the casino. Both pianists Max di Faz and Richard Rubin I find excellent. Max is more background, Richard in your face. There's a good range of entertainment, but not the variety you'd get on a larger ship and it suits me well. I've enjoyed the shows. "Voices" is my favourite. ellbon Posted May 20, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 20, 2015 Thank God Richard on vacation and max is back on the JR. .not sure who we got on QS but I thunk Ed Waters. Lottie A Posted May 20, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 20, 2015 Of course lovely Max is my favourite pianist, but I have to say that Ed Waters, who is presently on Quest is great fun too. Max is on Journey until the New Year. On Journey last year Ed had the Casino bar rocking! Went on late into the night too, we did music trivia, name that tune, singalongs and just loved the vibe all night long. We met up with some Aussie, South African and American guests most nights and just generally had a great time with Ed on piano. He has a good voice too and he's a lovely guy. You will have fun whether it's Max or Ed entertaining you.

Thanks Only one small smoking area on ACC. It's right by the Sunset Bar on deck 9. The shows are just okay and we have seen a couple of nice cabaret type shows but nothing to write home about. But then, we don't cruise for the shows...we cruise for the itinerary and they are usually port intensive. We're usually ready to crash at night after a long day of excursions, etc. we would rather end our day with a drink on our balcony watching the stars and the world go by. :D

We're hoping he will be on our cruise in July.
FloatSomeMore Posted May 24, 2015 #13 Share Posted May 24, 2015 Taking our first Azamara cruise this fall. We also enjoy just sitting on our balcony listening to the ocean. Best entertainment there is!

Best entertainment there is! It's funny you say that... The reason I posted the question is that I wondered if I would be more interested in going to see the entertainment on Azamara that I do on Celebrity cruises. I definitely prefer the smaller lounge entertainment with a guitarist, piano player or small ensemble, than the bigger shows on the cruise ships. A couple traveling with us on a recent Panama Canal cruise was surprised at how little interest we had in attending shows, etc. We too find our balcony quite entertaining! ;)

There were a few things at the main pool we walked away from though.
