MS Amsterdam Dining Room Tour and Food !

Recommended Posts

Greetings. We have just finished a video from our San Diego to Vancouver Pacific Coastal Cruise on MS Amsterdam from 27MAY to 30MAY. The video shows both levels of the main dining room, as well as the Main Dining Room food highlights and menus for the trip.

When we booked the trip we found that it was difficult to find any videos or photos of the Amsterdam, so we made some. Hope you enjoy. Feedback is always welcome. :)

Thanks so much for the wonderful video!! Incredible food photos. WOW. Once again, I realize how much I like HAL's MDR compared to Princess. DH not so much.

We are hoping and praying that the Tales of the South Pacific will be offered again in 2016 on the Amsterdam!!

Cheers, Denise

Thanks for watching. I am glad you liked it. It was fun to make until I realized that it was nearly 2AM this morning, and it was way beyond time to go to bed.

There are a few other videos and reviews on the blog, with more to come...

We are new to this video and blog thing, so if anyone has ANY feedback, good or bad, please feel free to share, so we can add value. :)

Thanks so much for your wonderful video - made me really hungry!

And - it made me think about our trip on the Westerdam in December. The food on the Amsterdam looks a little nicer than we had on the Westerdam. For example - we had Onion Soup - but it wasn't French Onion soup. Little touches make a difference. We still loved The Pinnicle Grill, The Dive In, Cannalettos - so we will travel on the Westerdam again but was just wondering if different HAL Ships are noted for different food service (especially in the MDR.)

This video should come with a warning label! Do not watch if you are hungry!

The views from the dining room windows should be outstanding in Alaska as it is light till late in the evening.

Post more when you recover from the trip.

Thanks

Let me see if I can figure out how to post a photo on here, and I will post the menus. The only ones I have are the ones shown in the video, but I certainly don't expect you to pause and screenshot them.. :) Although I would like to say that I have never done something like that... :p

Thank you for your efforts. The Amsterdam dining room is an elegant, special place with her stained glass ceiling and matching glass around the edge of the upper deck of the MDR.

Your video showed many of my "old friends", i.e. Prime Rib, Creme Brulee, Bay Shrimp Cocktail, etc. But, several new items as well, i.e. Chicken and Waffle. How did that combination turn out? Anything served, i.e syrup/butter, fruit topping, with the waffle?

The waffle had syrup... after asking for it. I think the steward originally decided not to give it to us since it was maybe "odd" to him? Maybe? Either way, it was a boneless chicken breast with a ton of flavor ,and it was quite tasty.

Such a combination is odd for me as well!:D

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, I am glad you were all able to enjoy it. There are two other videos on the site that you may enjoy as well... one is planes in St Maarten, and one is a timelapse of the sailaway from San Diego on the Amsterdam (same trip as the food video).

I have had lots of fun making these. I hope you enjoy them.

They sure were! The desserts were tasty, as were the rest of the foods. In spite of the looks of it, my least favorite may have been the strip loin ... but it was decent, just not amazing.

Good to hear, thank you for your prompt reply.

Thank you, great video! Now I'm hungry....and haven't had breakfast yet :D

I was surprised that you had a formal night on a 3-day coastal cruise. I've been on several coastal cruises ranging from 1-4 days and have never had a formal night.

I think perhaps the choice of formal night or no formal night comes down to the scattering of chicken bones or reading tea leaves, or some other divination, as I was surprised as well, but my PVP person told me there would be one, and the docs showed it as well... and lo and behold, it happened. So, I got to get the teenage boys to dress up and look sharp. Sadly at $40 per sheet, I was too cheap to buy the photos. I wish I had, but oh well.
