when do you need add extra tip ? ?

They told me tip will be added to the account,

is there any occasion you need to give extra tip ? for room service ?

I give a dollar or two for a coffee delivery from room service but $5 or so for a substantial snack delivery. Other than that we have given extra to our room steward and dining room waiter, for a 5 to 7 day cruise in the neighborhood of $50 each. We do that on the last evening of the cruise. We always leave the auto tip in place.

We have had some great room stewards that we tipped in cash at the end of the cruise, above and beyond the automatic tipping.

We also give extra to the room steward but it is not required. My husband uses a wheelchair for embarkation and debarkation and we tip for that..

I do tend to tip above and beyond to the bartenders at Crooners. I find they'll be starting my drink when they see me coming and sometimes a chair will miraculously appear if the bar is full... :)

At the end of the cruise, if we feel a staff member worked above our expectations or added to our experience, we offer some cash in an envelope. It is up to you if you want to tip room service delivery or anyone else more than the daily automatic gratuities. You aren't obligated.

Extra tipping is strictly up to you. Whenever we get room service we tip with cash. Cabin person if we feel he or she has show extra effort to fulfill our needs. As a first time cruiser you may want to ask for a top sheet on your bed. The comforter can be very warm. Once asked for it will be there every day. We always request egg crate for bed. Some beds are rather worn and the crates help. That just depends on the ship. Enjoy

We tip extra cash at the time of delivery for all room service orders; we do the same for any items we request at the buffet that a staff member make extra effort to get for us; we are not drinkers but do ask for ice and water in lounges and always tip the server like we would for a drink; we have tipped extra for private video clips that were added to our copy of the cruise video; and we always tip over and above the auto tip to our room steward and MDR staff, we generally don't eat in the up charge diningrooms. but if we did we would tip extra for a very good meal. We appreciate the service and enjoy acknowledging folks efforts.

There is no need to tip anyone or anything extra, it is all covered in the autotip. However, people often like to reward, room service stewards, servers in specialty restaurants, perhaps cabin stewards and table waiters who have done an exceptional job and perhaps their favourite bartender of bar server. What you do or how much you tip is entirely up to you.

FYI - bar service will have an auto-tip on it. No need to add an extra tip even though there is a line for it. If you get service you feel goes above and beyond, all tips are welcome! We typically tip our cabin steward a little extra at the end of the cruise.

Absolutely agree! And you'll find LOTS of helpful tips on what is essential, what is useful-like magnets and a card for the power slot on certain ships which *blush* I have forgotten;

 

I wouldn't, without Cruise Critic, have known to put a highlighter in my handbag to note what I want to do in the Patter. Or bring a magnet to keep paperwork displayed (am intending to buy some as souvenirs as most people have "stuff" pinned on their fridge door-it's a very useful Message Board :D. A kind friend sent me a Tablet cover which I'm going to use to "keep" the daily paperwork in the one place. Another tip for me was that the "combined" shampoo/conditioner might cause problems for my hair, so samples collected from hotel stays will be packed as Back Up supplies. I'm also getting as many "travel sized" products as I can to minimise packing-lipstick and fragrance samples are a GREAT way for me to vary what I'm wearing with minimal bulk.

I'm physically disabled-Sight and Mobility issues, so will be doing a report on my observations from a personal viewpoint, remembering to emphasise that these matters are of vital importance to me and may not be relevant to other people. Equally, there's been some good advice about what's available as souvenir purchases with prices which REALLY is helping my budgeting-I can't get the All Inclusive Beverage Package here in Australia, so it's a case of scouring the Bar Menus to make my choices, and saving money for On Board Credit to cover the expected total. The tip that On board Casino Credit can be cashed out has been very useful to me, I can have "back up funds" in Casino Credit, I'm reasonable with sticking to a pre-determined budget when gambling. It's FAR more likely I'd go crazy with buying souvenirs!:D

I feel the stewards have an incredibly demanding job and can really enhance your trip experience with their efforts.

In addition to the auto-tip, we often give extra to the room steward. We most often do Anytime Dining, so do not tip extra to wait staff since it is different every night.

I'll state it right up front: I like to tip.

 

I'm a tipper and I do it on land and sea. I would never expect anyone else to share my thoughts on this, but below are some of the reasons why I do and you will recognize when and if you think you want to tip extra.

 

So, some of the extra tipping I do:

 

The room steward (at the end of the cruise)...we've had outstanding service from all but one of our stewards. Even the 1 wasn't bad, but he did get less than I normally give at the end of the cruise. :p

 

The coffee baristas (as I go). I have the coffee card, but I like to hand them a dollar from time to time and especially if they have memorized my quirky drinks and have it ready as soon as they see me walking towards them. :D

 

If we have traditional dining, I'll tip our wait staff (at the end of the cruise). Why, because I have lots of dietary issues and I feel whatever they get from the auto tip is not nearly enough to compensate them for that. :o

 

I've also tipped a cook once, who went WAY out of his way to help me. And, did the same for the hamburger guy, who had overheard me talking to the cook, and remembered me a couple of days later and recited my order before I could speak, lol.

We always leave the auto-tips on. If our room steward does a pretty good job, then we will usually tip an extra $2.00 per day on a long cruise, or an extra $20.00 at the end for a 7-day cruise. For room service, $1 to $3, depending on what we order. We usually tip our favorite bartenders a little extra at the end too. If we have traditional dining, then we tip the waiter and bus person the same as our cabin steward. On anytime dining, sometimes we do and sometimes we don't. It depends on the service. We drink a lot on vacation, so that is factored into the tip too. ;) I almost forgot that if the Maitre'd or head waiter has done something special for us, we will tip them as well. My DH likes to tip people, lol.
