Saving Chairs/Loungers etc...

Ok Detroitlions, I am seriously chuckling as I read you post. We occasionally move towels off a couple of chairs and sit down.

If the person who put the towels there returns, we look at him angelically and reply, "what towels? The chair didn't have any towels on it when we sat down"

Usually, the chair saver doesn't even return while we're there so we simply put the towels back on the chair before we leave.

Problem is a lot of people, when leaving for the day, just get up and leave. The next person who comes along doesn't know if the chair is occupied are the people just left the towel.

The chairs marked by library books are the rude ones.

If I can't find a chair, I plan on sitting on a "saved" one and if the owner comes back I will move to another "saved" one, so on and so forth.

So, you'll stretch out on the lounger, arrange your towel, book, drink etc?

What do you do with the other peoples flip flops, towel, books etc?

Since NCL threatens to charge $25 per non-returned towel, I doubt this is true.

Now you have to understand I have been on many cruises I have seen so many different things that were rude or left me wondering why people think hurray for me and who cares about you. My DW did get mad at me when there was a shopping special going on well over a hour people vanished and left all there crap behind. So I recruited my DS to help me move two chairs from one area to another area when the people came back they looked like they could not remember where they parked there car.

If I'm ever on a cruise with you, I'd so love to join you in doing this. Maybe NCL could see if as a ship excursion? ;)

It is interesting reading the Guest Conduct Policy (link follows). First sentence bolded by me :)

"

DISCOURTEOUS OR DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR

Pool, deck and theater chairs may not be reserved. Topless sunbathing is not permitted. Boom boxes or loud radios are not permitted. Roller blades, roller skates, skateboards, scooters, surfboards, bicycles, and similar items may not be utilized on-board; except for mobility aids related to special needs, as approved by the ship’s management. I get up early eat breakfast and see the flood of towels on loungers. I laugh to myself and remove a bunch and stack it all on one. Then I go to the pool bar and wait. while I am sipping a drink I watching all the angry hogs fight over one apple its hilarious.

How juvenile. And the use of the 'yellow cards' is something that maybe the cruise staff should do, but not passengers.... It just leads to a potentially unnecessary confrontation.

I am of the school of you snooze, you lose. If I get chairs early, I am entitled to use them and also get up and walk away whether to get a bite to eat for breakfast/lunch, a lemonade, use the ropes course, take a dip in the pool/hot tub and not worry that some wise guy moved my belongings.

Using Breakaway as my point of reference, the fact of the matter is that there are plenty of chairs if you do not need to be right around the (very small) pools. One deck up there are many many chairs.

Really? You think you can go eat a meal and the chair you were in previously should still be reserved for you? I think that's ridiculous. A few minutes is one thing, but more than a few minutes to get a drink or take a bathroom break and you should be within eyesight of the chair so you can tell someone you're using it if they try to sit down.

Speaking of towels, do they supply them on deck?

As long as the PP is gone no longer than 30 minutes what he does is within the rules.

Yes, they have a kiosk where they supply towels, you have to present your cabin key to get one (make sure you get the receipt when you turn the towel back in or you could get charged for it).

I do like to sit on a lounger and read for a while, then go to the pool for a swim. Maybe I'll make a sign to tell chair hunters that I'm swimming and will return soon.
When I sit out (in the shade) and have to go to the ladies room or to get some iced tea, I simply ask the person next to me, if they would watch my lounger, as I'm going to wherever.

You folks need to remember chair hogs are not just on ships, they are everywhere. My wife and I stayed 5 nights at the Bellagio hotel in Vegas the week after labor day. We spent two days at the pool(s). Pools opened at 8:00am, we headed down at 8:30am it was a sea of white towels with no bodies. However the pool staff really enforced the 30 minute rule. We found two loungers in a not great location, but within 30-45 minutes the pool staff was going around collecting towels from every lounger that did not have a person sitting on it. We quickly moved. The look on the faces of some people coming back to claim their location 2 hours later was priceless

Here is a novel idea....that will of course be ripped apart by the posters here no doubt. Lol

They stack up the chairs at night right? Or at least most of the chairs anyway

So

Just keep them stacked until morning and ...then....you go to the deck crew when you are ready for a lounger ....show him your room key....he can hand you a towel ....grab a lounger and place it for you....

Now I know you will say it can't be done but it most certainly is done that way at many resort hotels. Especially in Miami. Lol

They escort you to the loungers and expect a tip of course lol but I don't overtip so the dsc is fine IMHO.

This method could be used for the high real estate loungers. They loungers in the far off suburbs are usually always available anyway so no need to utilize this method there. The crew would know who is using each poolside lounger as well and as they escort you they would tell you if the lounger is unattended for whatever amount of time that they lose the use of the lounger

Personally, I like the idea. But...NCL won't hire a pool attendant that could literally save lives. I therefore contend that NCL might not be open to the idea of lounge chair concierge. Unless, of course there was a fee.

I'm going to let you all in on a little secret.. the loungers are not bolted to the floor!! Every time we have had trouble finding a lounger in a "good" spot, here's what I do... now pay attention.. go up top where you will pretty much ALWAYS find a lounger, pick it up, and bring it down to the pool area. It's not very heavy, and this way you will be able to pick your own spot. We've been on 6 NCL cruises and we have never not been able to find a chair.

Personally I would just use it up top where I found it. Sun's just the same there as it is around the pool (and in some cases better).

The pools are so crowded anyway I don't see the appeal if sitting near them unless you have kids in the pool

For me and mine we sit up top....move loungers to wherever we want....go down to the pool to just sit on the pool ledge from time to time....and never rush to save chairs....and always get chairs btw

We lean over the railings if need be to see the band/shows but usually we can just see them from our loungers

How about assigning loungers to cabins. Lol

At final payment you could reserve loungers for you cabin pax in a particular spot for a particular time frame on particular days

For a fee of course.... They could even have a pricing schedule....sea day price....port day price....just like the spa!!!

We all know how competent the NCL IT department is and how quickly they write programs and update their websites ....so no problem there of course. 🙀

And we all know how thoroughly Ncl thinks out their changes...oops...I mean "enhancements" and personally I think the whole idea of reserving loungers would certainly be for our "convenience". Lol

In all seriousness....something like I describe could certainly help and be efficient....unfortunately Ncl would not be able to pull it off properly...if at all....

Good idea. Or, if you can't stand to give one up, bring it with you when you go for lunch.

On a recent RCCL Oasis cruise, they had an attendant that would show up at the beach pool each morning when the towel station opened up. He had a clip board and would time chairs with towels and no occupants. If nobody showed by with in 30 minutes he would remove their belongings and ask a near by cruiser to witness what he was removing. He stayed until 10:30 each morning. It didn't totally cure the chair hog problem but it definitely ended the problem of the people who wake up very early, place their and others towels and then leave and show up hours later. Those are the worst hogs IMO.
