Boarding the Summit

Well, both of those comments are good to hear! It's a little scary having 3 cruises booked on the Summit and not knowing how we'll like it. Appreciate the info.

I really think you'll like it. We liked our Summit cruise better than our Silhouette cruise. Granted, we had a great itinerary, but the friendliness of officers and staff isn't anywhere near what it is on the Summit. Can't wait to board her again in two weeks.

The buffet on the M class ships are totally different than Solstice

class.

Solstice class are station to station. M class are lines, both port and

starboard. There is also an area in the back (AFT).....In the mornings

it is usually the "Benedict Station"...different types of Eggs Benedict.

Lunchtime it is a sandwich station.

I am sure hoping they have a waffle station!! Cannot remember what the stations are like as the last time we were on a sister ship was 2009!!

Yes they do have a waffle station. For lunch look for the Panini Station. The Summit has the best buffet ever.

Thanks, our last three Celebrity cruises we were in AQ and never went to the buffet for breakfast. I know that Texed could tell me for certain if they had waffles! DH enjoys them and hopes the syrup is good!!

I have never minded the buffets probably largely because I am used to the ones in the casino's at Atlantic City. Celebrity buffets are a pleasure compared to those. Anyone going to the buffet on the first day should get there as early as possible since many people are now parking themselves at the tables until Celebrity announces they are opening up the cabins. Saw this on my last two cruises and it is really rude.

We like to arrive at buffets just when they open, not for table placement, but to get our food prior to it getting picked over and touched. Nothing more of a turn-off then seeing guests use fingers to select food!

We also bring our own starbucks cardboard beverage tray in order to get espresso in the morning to bring back to the cabin.

We prefer the layout and food on the S class ships buffet, but enjoy the summit as well.

I just got off Summit yesterday - there are no more trays in the buffet. They orginally got rid of the bigger trays some time ago and then got smaller ones but now those are also gone. New plates and bowls are bigger and heavier.

Did you have a good cruise?:)......food, service? I know you well enough

to know you will post honestly.

I am sailing her in November.

yup. Too many people piled up tons of food that went to waste. Sad. Celebrity will have people provide trays if you have a physical issue in carrying plates and attendants will carry plates for you.

What I can say is Luminae opened at noon, Oceanview cafe at 11:30, the salad - ice cream - pizza - pasta all open, Poolside Grill - SUPER BURGERS! - at 11:30, the Spa Cafe with lighter food at noon, Cafe al Bacio and Bistro on 5 both at noon. The food vaires and opinions vary depending on what you like. Some love the buffets and other hate them. Oceanview IS very crowded on boarding day. We prefer the Spa Cafe or the Poolside Grille. One can provide light and healthy and the other decadent fries and juicy Angus burgers. We just need something to tide us over until we can get sushi at 5.

Lois, food was overall very good. We finally went to Qsine and food and service were excellent.

Service throughout the ship was great. Only downside is we still think lunch menus in the MDR are lacking and not as good as the "old" days.

I do have to say the ship is looking a bit tired in spots. It must have had a hard summer going to Bermuda because I don't remember it being this bad in May. Carpets are showing threads and there are many soft spots on certain decks (4 and 10 come to mind). Did it ruin my cruise - no - but made me sad to see her looking tired.

Captain Kate is so nice and she was all over the ship and even said good-bye on stage the last night of the cruise before the 7 PM show.

You should have an excellent time and wish we were coming with you.

We would love to try a river cruise. Another couple we sat with at dinner is also doing a river cruise next year.

We don't have any future Celebrity cruises booked either. We will see what next year brings.

The Summit is going into drydock next February-March. I'm sure it needs it and am looking forward to it being spruced up before our Bermuda cruise.

I just got back from a river cruise. It's a great way to see Europe, but exhausting. We kept thinking, "if we only had a sea day!". And we're on the young side of the average river cruisers! Great experience but I'm glad to get back on the ocean again.

I just got off the Summit yesterday. The eggs Benedict station was the last port station aft. The waffle station for breakfast is the Panini Station for lunch and is fully aft between port and starboard.

We noticed that there could be a line of people waiting to get omelets or eggs cooked but if you go back to the waffle station, they make omelets and eggs there also and not too much of a wait.

Oh great, now everyone will know about it. :p Haven't you ever found a great restaurant and told all your friends? They told all their other friends. Then when you wanted to get in the next time, the restaurant was too crowded and couldn't take your reservation?

That's why I didn't mention my favorite place to get those eggs cooked properly. The other stations over cooked everything.

Our favorite spot for lunch on the first day is Bistro on 5. Yes it does cost $10.00, but it is never busy, nor do you feel rushed or crowded. We normally enjoy a glass of bubbly as we look over the menu. We always take our time and have a great lunch. The staff is friendly and welcoming. This is also one of our favorite spots for lunch later in the cruise. Somehow the waiters remember us and welcome us back. If you have some OBC, give the Bistro a try. Oh, their daily specials are great during the week. I may have spoiled a great spot by telling everyone, but we do enjoy it.
