Too much smoke in Casinos

I'm all for pushing for a larger or even separate "non-smoking" side of the casino. However, there are CLEARLY enough smokers willing to spend money in the casino to make it worth RCL's time. It's apparently worth it to endure the numerous concerns of other cruisers who prefer to avoid the casino. I appreciate the OPs concern - but I have a feeling that the complaints might be fruitless. I've been told by bartenders aboard ship that the "smokers gamble more." It's probably about the money.

(PS - as you can see - the smoke doesn't bother me or my screen name would be quite different.)

The bartenders are probably correct saying "smokers gamble more" because there are mostly smokers in there and many non-smokers who would normally gamble are staying away because of the smoke.

I don't like the smoke but I like to play the slots. On a cruise is about the only time I do and I am usually fairly lucky at them. I just try to sit away from a smoker when I can. I was on Navigator recently and found a good machine in the non-smoking area. I would love for the casions to be non-smoking be we know that's not going to happen so I just make the best of it! As long as I'm winning I'm happy! :D

Yes I did notice on my couple of walks through the Allure casino last week that there were large gatherings of smokers around the bar area who were not gambling.

But then there is no rule that's says if you want to smoke then you have to gamble.

Excuse me---but non-smokers complained about in cabin and balcony smoking so much, that cruise lines finally gave in. True, I smoke, but it is a PAIN to have to go to the casino every time. It is most inconvenient. Non-smokers made the rule and I have to abide by it. Please remember, it is NOT my fault. You, too, also have to abide by it.

Entirely possible that the bartenders say that because that's what they see most often and because non-smokers avoid the casino. That would make sense.

However I think if the non-smokers out numbered the smokers and decided to avoid the casino, RCL would certainly take notice. Who knows?

I'll come sit by you so your luck rubs off on me. :D

They all flooded the casino. No not the gamblers but the smokers. Back from the Serenade TA with rough and cold weather, the captain closed the outer decks (5 and 12) for all passengers for a couple of consecutive days ; deck 11 was too cold - so all smokers had their meet and mingle with "joint" pow wow smoking in the casino. :D

During these smoke-outs we avoided the casino and saved big on bucks:)

Wow I didn't think that was legal! :D;)

Worse are those who smoke on their balcony. There should be balcony/cabin cigarette smoke detectors that alert ship security and fines should be imposed. Second offense and off the ship.

i detest tobacco smoke. it is awful and this is my biggest fear as i am on a balcony on ios in week. i really hope that there are no smokers near my cabin.

Someone mentioned smoking on the balconies? Doesnt RCCL prohibit smoking on BAL? Do people still do it?

Yes, there have been people smoking on balconies near us on our last two cruises.

is there a mechanism to report people who smoke on balconies and if so what is the procedure?

and did said reporting even change the behavior?

Not that I know of - and we all still hear stories of people smoking on balconies.

I'm all about the rules. The rule is - no smoking on the balconies, so those that break that rule should face the punishment (whatever that may be.)

Smoking is allowed in the casino - I know that before I choose to walk in. Those smoking in there are following the rules. Until that rule is changed - and it might be in the future - they are allowed to smoke.

I am not sure if there are any ships that are 100% smoke free.

I thought for sure Disney would be, but I am told they have designated smoking areas as well.

DCL does not have casinos, and they do not have cigar bars, so there is no smoking inside the ships. They do have at least one designated smoking area that is on an outside deck. I doubt that any ship, for now, is going to totally ban smoking.

On our last Oasis Cruise there was a large family in the room next to ours and they were all out on the balcony smoking...really smelled bad...they were foreigners and had those really strong, non filtered cigarettes. I informed our cabin steward and he said he'd notify the head of housekeeping since not only was it against rules but he'd get in trouble too since this was one of his cabins. Never smelled them smoking again. So I guess you just need to notify your steward, if that doesn't work, I'd call guest services right from my room when they are smoking.

Formal nights on many ships were designated as "no smoking" nights in the Casino. This was an excellent compromise as it allowed me at least 2 nights to sit at a slot machine without smoke wafting in my face. Yes, I know there is a no smoking section, but none of the machines I enjoy playing are there :(

I think a few ships still do this, but none I have sailed on recently....

It sounds like that you make the choice that certain machines have more value to you than the cigarette smoke. At least you have the choice!

How can it be too smokey when you are in a smoking area?

When I started this thread, I didn't mean for it to be non-smokers against smokers.

I know that casinos are smokey - but I wanted to use my free spins and even that is hard with the smoke. The casino was next to the Schooner Bar on the ship, and we could smell the smoke - it was over-whelming.

The point I was trying to make was it is SMOKEY - PERIOD.

When there were non-smoking nights in the casinos, my husband and I did go.

Could there be better ventilation? Or actually have a small non-smoking casino in another part of the larger ships? It just appears as though the smoke is worse now.

I thought the ventilation/smoke extraction on the Serenade was extremely poor. The entire Centrum smelled of cigarette smoke, as the smoke from the casino didn't honor the smoking boundary. Our cabin was on the hump on Deck 10, and there were many times when I opened my cabin door and smelled cigarette smoke.

I think if RCI is going to continue to allow smoking anywhere inside, they need to find better ways to extract the smoke and odor. I love to play the slots when I cruise, but I've saved a lot of money on recent trips. The amount of smoke in the casino has increased so much I can't stand to be in there more than a few minutes.
