What if this Diamond Lounge change happened...

Recommended Posts

You are Diamond. You still get the free 3 drinks on your card, but you no longer have a Diamond club to go to. You are Diamond Plus, you still have a Concierge Lounge and free drink as do Pennacle guests. As Diamond, Diamond Plus is still within reach. But as Diamond Plus, Pennacle really is not within reach. As Diamond Plus, RCL is my favorite cruise line. I really love the Diamond Club and Concierge Lounge.

If a change were to occur, this is most likely.

The rumor is that there will be a Suite Lounge for Gold Card Holders and a Diamond Lounge for Diamond Plus & Pinnacle Club. Diamond, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle Club Members will still have 3 drinks loaded onto their SeaPass Card, but Diamond Members will not have a lounge to visit.

We've just turned D+ so hoping that we will get on a ship with a CL just to see what it's like before they are turned over to suite lounges as the trend seems to be. I am always wary of posts like this as I wonder if RCI monitors them to see the gradual stages of outrage, denial and finally acceptance of members and then introduce these changes as they are then expected and not met with much resistance.

Isn't this the same rumor that was circulating on this board some 2-3 years ago. Here we go again!

Not another entitlement thread!

How about no diamond lounge just a suite lounge. After all on that particular cruise a suite guest spent more than a non suite guest so they deserve more. Diamond and Diamond plus have drinks loaded on their cards. Pinnacle can use the suite lounge. Let the outrage begin...

Just don't get why Damond Plus feel they are entitled to the same benefits as Pinnacle but don't have as many cruise points or as some point out have not spent as much $. However, Diamonds are not entitled to the same benefits as Diamond Plus because they don't have as many points. Where's the logic? [emoji15]. I guess most Diamond Plus will not reach Pinnacle level but by trying to ride the coat tail of Pinnacle benefits they have the opportunity to feel elite and entitled.

In reality Diamond and Diamond Plus are more similar than Diamond Plus and Pinnacle. RC most think the same and it's the reason RC created similar names.

I am newly Diamond and have sailed once as a diamond cruiser. It would be a very disappointing outcome if they now took away the diamond lounge as a perk. So how about Diamond + move up to a different level between diamond + and pinnacle, which would leave room for the diamonds to go to Diamond + and new diamonds from a point in time no longer have access to the lounge. It can still be done on a point system. I have 5 cruises booked and will be booking a 6th when we cruise in December, trying to get to diamond + but won't make it for a little while. I would be disappointed with RCI if they made my perks less than what I am currently getting. So much for being loyal would be my opinion a change as mentioned. Boo to RCI if they do this. :(

Do you know the difference between entitlement and earned?? Entitlement is what the government hands you. Earned is achieving D or DP status by cruising and spending your hard earned money. I worked for everything I have.

Sure is, but this time it just might happen in 2016.

With the addition of a Suite Lounge on Oasis Class now and the Concierge Lounge being changed to a Diamond Lounge, it's just a matter of time when other ships will follow suit.

We are about 1/4 of the way up from Diamond to reaching Diamond Plus.

Not a fan of "moving the goal posts" on loyal customers or removing items; especially at the prices RCI is charging now.

Without the social interactions available in the lounge and friendships found in there I think you end up with less loyal cruisers planning vacations together as well. Just my opinion.

Why aim for Diamond Plus at that point; they'd probably take away more perks by then too. Removal of amenities is a disincentive to select Royal over other cruise lines for future vacations.

They always manage to find a larger overflow venue that is not otherwise scheduled to be in use during cocktail hour(s). Why not just designate that venue as the cocktail lounge and leave the Diamond Lounge as the quiet spot for members to use during the day? That is what has happened in practical application on many cruises I have been on when the DL is too small to host nightly events.

An entitlement is something someone has earned; hence they are entitled to the benefit. An entitlement is not a handout or a freebie. Currently, as a Diamond Member, access to the Diamond Lounge is an entitlement of mine. The company says I have earned the access, therefore I am entitled to use it. It is not a freebie or handout provided for by a third party. In many ways earned and entitlement are one and the same. Entitlement has just been branded with negative connotations these days.

As have I but because you do not...

en·ti·tle·ment

inˈtīdlmənt,enˈtīdlmənt/

noun

the fact of having a right to something.

"full entitlement to fees and maintenance should be offered"

synonyms:right, prerogative, claim; More

the amount to which a person has a right.

"annual leave entitlement"

synonyms:right, prerogative, claim; More

the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.

"no wonder your kids have a sense of entitlement"

Hence, you are entitled to use the lounge if you accumulated the points as diamond, diamond plus and pinnacle.

I don't care who uses the lounge. My confusion is why are these threads always about taking the lounge away from diamond members but not diamond plus. Why does diamond plus members feel their level of benefits should be the same as everyone (pinnacle and suite guests) but diamonds deserve less?

yeah but it is actually happening, at least on new builds.. a dedicated Suite/Pinnacle only lounge

D+ have been 'ousted' and relegated to only the same old Diamond lounge and no longer have 2 choices.

.

I have a different opinion. Social interaction in a lounge has absolutely NO relationship to my future cruising. We cruise 5-8 times a year and since the introductions of vouchers, can count the times we've had cocktails in the lounge. If we run into a cruising buddy we do plan to have a drink one evening. I know folks like to hang out in the CL or DL but we prefer to have that drink in the theater, casino or at anther bar. The voucher system is so much nicer if cruising with family or friends as we can all meet in a bar for a pre dinner cocktail. And three vouchers is plenty for us each evening. One or two go unused.

I do like the lounge benefit for specialty coffee and the continental breakfast. M

Diamonds are the new platinum for RC. So much for your "investment in cruising" [emoji106]🏻

We will be D next week and I'm tired of RCI constantly moving the goal-lines. You would think that finally achieving D status would result in us choosing RCI even more but not us. After next week, our next 3 cruises are on NCL and Princess. RCI just seems to me that they have decided to bend over backwards for suite guests at every turn, so let them survive with suite guests. We've decided shop elsewhere.

I consider you well informed. Can you clarity, since Pinnacle (currently) have a gold card, does that imply that that Pinnacle will also have access to the suite lounge? I hope so.

I am not Pinnacle, but we all know the extreme loyalty that Pinnacle members show to RCCL.
