January weather for Nassau and Freeport

We are taking a cruise to those locations at the end of January. Does anyone know about what the temperature should be? I'm wondering if I should schedule a beach excursion. Or is the water going to be too cold to go in?

The water will be chilly, the Bahamas are not far enough south but, the air temps should be in the 80's.

Unfortunately you can't be certain.

 

It could be 70's/80's but once in awhile it gets very cold and that might be 50's. I've been there when it happened.

 

Best to check weather a few days before the cruise.

Winter weather in the Bahamas is similar to southern Florida so it varies from warm (low 80s) to chilly. As to the sea temps it is normally in the low to mid 70s that time of year which is fine for many folks.

Which means as I said earlier it could be warm or even cold.

 

I have been there when it's been just that.

 

2010 it was cold and I mean cold in January.

Not so fast. I have been snorkeling in the Bahamas in Jan-Feb and it was near perfect. So you will just have to wait and see the weather trends right before your trip. Sand between the toes is still possible :).

Our average in New Orleans during the day it's 60 - 65.... But not sure since we are just starting to get a little cool. It's 64 right now.

That happened to us one time. It was cold. But had a great time in Atlantis. Enjoy your cruise.

For those used to swimming off Cape Cod or Maine....low 70s is heaven :).

The key is no one knows what the weather will be like.

 

So best just to check a few days before to get an idea and then see what happens on the cruise.

 

Weather is weather which is to say it is unpredictable.

Nassau can get as low as high forties in January/February - it is just like South Florida; of course, you could hit an 80 degree day - you simply have to play it by ear. The seawater temperature should be close to, or slightly above 70

As others have said, the water temperature is likely to be quite chilly.

I don't know about you, but I only feel a need to get in the water if I'm hot....you should be fine sunning, without getting wet!
