Shorts in MDR

You might want to review the Cruise Critic community guidelines. They specifically state to not use your real name. We are following the rules. You are not.....

"Forum Rules

Important: Do Not Use Your REAL NAME as your USER NAME"

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/faq.php?faq=guidelines

Wasn't a rule when I first signed on here. ;) But, hey, if they want to change my name, so be it. What I would PREFER isn't allowed either....

I believe it has been the rule since the board was founded. A carry over from before the community split from AOL. That is where the use of handles came from.

And guess what my handle was on AOL eons ago....? :D (Got rid of that account, and gave up the right so MY name on there, a decade ago though...)

Be that as it may, if CC wants me to change my name after 12 years, fine by me. Someone can contact me.

I hope not as well.....jeeze...they just lower the dress code and people are trying to rip it down further......perhaps the OP would be more comfortable on one of the smaller lesser lines

I hope not and hopefully not baseball caps and T shirts.

That is nonsensical and snobbish. In any case you don't have to rip the OP for asking a question.

Sorry if this has been posted, but under the new guidelines, can men wear nice shorts in the dining room at night? Thanks

Any man attempting to wear shorts of any kind should not only be unceremoniously thrown out of the MDR but should be thrown off the ship at the next available port (joke, wishful thinking) :D.

Sorry, but this kind of post really winds me up!

Why do standards have to deteriorate to accommodate the few who can't be bothered to conform to an already dumbed down dress code!

Wow, what a way with words you have.

Shame on you. Shame.

Shame on you for condoning such juvenile behavior. This obsession people have for wearing shorts in the evening is so indicative of people who have this infantile mindset of " I,M,V,A,I,W,W,I,D,W,P" and to hell with the rest of the world.

These are the same people who would not think of trying to enter the Palm Court wearing shorts.

Personally, I wouldn't wear shorts in the MDR, but that's my choice. However, it amazes me that somehow, people's ability to enjoy a meal is affected by what someone else wears. If you like to dress up- for whatever reason, that's great. Please do that. It's your vacation and you should wear what you like. I promise that what you wear won't affect the taste of my food at all.

Its my vacation and I will wear what I darn well please. As an adult I actually do that on a daily basis ;)

Threads like this make me do more land vacations - so much judgement and finger wagging.

""I,M,V,A,I,W,W,I,D,W,P" and to hell with the rest of the world."

should not be confused with

"I,M,V,A,Y,W,W,W,I,D,W,W,Y,T" and "I,Y,D,L,I,Y,C,G,T,T,B."

Or, "It's My Vacation And You Will Wear What I Want You To." and

"If You Don't Like It You Can Go To The Buffet."

These are the same people who would not think of trying to enter the Palm Court wearing shorts.

What is the Palm Court and why do you think the MDR is in the same class?

Kevin, even if it is not against the rules, it's still not a good idea. No competent internet security person would recommend using your real name in any internet forum. And, no, KevinTBrown @ internet dot mail is not a good choice for an email address either.

Yeah, but when you're new to the whole cruising scene it can be quite a wallop of culture shock. I've been online for decades and have seen some truly ugly and brutal interactions between online "people", but somehow the petty nastiness here on CC really caught me off-guard.

Which is why there are so many readers.

Unfortunately there are also sociopathic stalkers on the internet. It really is not a good idea to use a real first and last name here.

I also don't want strangers knowing by name I will be away on a cruise for 7, 10 or 11 days.

I actually cancelled a cruise on Celebrity because of some of the posts I read here on cruise critic. Later, I decided I would not allow some anonymous poster on the internet decided which cruises I would take.

Seriously? Opinions on this board are like noses...everyone has one.

I would never let any poster on CC sway my vacation choices.

You are absolutely correct except it wasn't someone just expressing their opinion that swayed my choice. There were a series of posts where posters stated they had demanded that the Matre'd remove other passengers from the MDR who did not dress to their satisfaction, or who "stormed out of the MDR" to find the Matre'd and escort him through the MDR pointing out dress code violations, and there was the poster who very loudly (so that everyone could hear) refused to allow another passenger to be seated at their table because of their attire. Please note that in all these cases, the passengers had already been admitted to the MDR so one can assume their dress satisfied the MDR staff. If one is displeased by someone's dress, then such displeasure should be brought to the attention of the Matre'd in a discrete manner and never in a manner designed to embarrass the other passenger.

I just decided that based upon these posts that I would find it preferable to cruise other lines. I was new to cruising then and I have since learned that these were not representative of Celebrity. I also decided that I don't really care what people who would take such actions think about me.

I try not to discuss my future cruises except in a vague manner. I screw up sometimes but I try to avoid mentioning specific dates, ships, etc., until I after I return.

Unfortunately, you will find the same dress code issue with sarcastic, bombastic, and rude remarks on all Cruise Critic cruiselines' threads.

It is only important that you read and understand what each cruise lines dress code guidelines are so you can make your own intelligent decision about what to wear.

About 95 to 98% of cruise passengers have never heard of Cruise Critic. Unless you go to a Meet & Greet arranged through CC, chances are you will not encounter a CC poster. What is said here on anonymous screens by pseudonyms is not what you will experience aboard a ship.

I didn't condone anything and you have a reading and comprehension issue.

I chastised the poster for the way they spoke to others. shame on them, and shame on you as well.

The attitudes here are just simply pathetic. I never stated my preference. But I do not tell people to go away or use pejoratives like "big boy pants".

Treat others with respect.

Once onboard passengers wouldn't behave in that manner.

Perhaps, but I've not seen anyone make similar posts on any of the other forums.

It is only important that you read and understand what each cruise lines dress code guidelines are so you can make your own intelligent decision about what to wear.

My decision was not about the dress code but about how some posters reported treating their fellow passengers. Their actions were far more relevant than what spurred their actions. If someone would react that way because someone wasn't, for example, wearing a tie, then how would they act in other situations?

That's one of the truly amusing things about those who post on cruise critic. Too many of us seem to think our opinions on how cruise lines should be managed are the only ones that matter. I just love those posts that begin: "I'm a Double Elite Diamond Plus with Horseshoes and Blue Feathers and I think..."

Several people challenged these posters on whether they actually did what they reported and the posters were adamant that they did. Other posters agreed with these actions and said they would do the same things. Still, I don't have video tape so it could have been bombast.

Let me ask you this. Suppose they were bragging about things they didn't really do. Would that change your opinion of whether you would want to share a table with them? Which is worse, bragging about acting in an obnoxious manner or bragging about doing obnoxious things when you really didn't? In the first case, they were obnoxious. In the second, they wanted others to think they were obnoxious.
