KiwiFunCruiser Posted January 5, 2016 #76 Share Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) Hi Sarah, Hope you enjoy Hobart, I lived there many years ago and re visited on Solstice 2 years ago, it is very stunning city. Just wondered what some of the everyday MDR dishes are. TIA. Edited January 5, 2016 by KiwiFunCruiser
icat2000 Posted January 5, 2016 Author #77 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Could you post some menus please I don't have access to load up the pictures any where as you can't link to a fb account here and that where I have been posting my pictures. Not sure whether you can link to Instagram either. But last night was Italian night. It seems like their the same menus that have been on the ships I travelled in 2015. Last night I had the veal dish. I didn't have desert as not a tiramisu fan. It's fine in Hobart today, but a little chilly. I try and remember some of the dishes on tonight's menu and post about them later on.

They seem to vary ship to ship. Don't forget to enjoy your cruise. We love a Tas cruise.

Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted January 5, 2016 #80 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Sarah, what type of cabin are you in, and what bed configuration do you have? We've booked an inside cabin for our April cruise and are trying to decide whether we want twin or queen bed configuration. On our last Princess cruise, on Dawn, twin configuration was the only one that really worked well in the inside cabins. The inside cabins sound like they are bigger on Golden? We were on the Golden in September in an inside cabin. They are a lot larger that the Dawn etc. Easy to get down both sides of the queen bed, not like the cramped Dawn. After sailing on the Golden, it will be hard to go back to the Sun class ships.:)

On our last Princess cruise, on Dawn, twin configuration was the only one that really worked well in the inside cabins. The inside cabins sound like they are bigger on Golden? Inside cabin with two twins push together, however make sure they put the comforter on top under the sheet. They didn't with mine and the beds moved apart three inches in the middle and I had to get them to fix it at 10 pm on first night. The inside cabins are bigger than the ones on the sun class ships. Curtis stone does have dishes every night. I haven't had one yet. They also have each night a chocolate journey desert. Again haven't had one. It's an easy walk into Salamanca place from the ship. It's been raining on and off today, nothing too heavy. One thing that has been different is the Main dining room has been open on port days for lunch. Today, in the theatre they are showing the movie the intern. The fcc person has been very busy this cruise. Most people I have talked too and there are a lot of first time cruiser say they are enjoying the cruise. Captain circle party is on the second formal night and I got my wine tasting which will be on 9 January.

Cyrix400 Posted January 6, 2016 #84 Share Posted January 6, 2016 Hi again, Sarah. What is your impression of the food in MDR and in the buffet - re variety and quality? And if you did go on Princess in the last few years, what would be your comments about the food standards - about the same, on par with other cruise lines - or declined (in this cost-conscious cruise environment). Thanks in advance.
Kiwi Kruzer Posted January 6, 2016 #85 Share Posted January 6, 2016 The bridge cam is not very clear these days...seems to lack colour, but heres a grab showing how close and up front they get to Hobart. There used to be port cams available to show the ships at the wharf from the Lenna Hotel and from Wrest Point Casino, but they dont seem to want to work for me.

Update on this was open for lunch for port Arthur stop however not today for Hobart. Re food quality. Compared with Po Australia which was my last cruise prior to this one it's light and days ahead on princess. Princess food compared to princess cruises over the past couple of years on the cruises I have taken I haven't experienced a decline. I eat most of my meals in the dining room where possible. Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted January 6, 2016 #91 Share Posted January 6, 2016 Princess food compared to princess cruises over the past couple of years on the cruises I have taken I haven't experienced a decline. I felt that the quality of the food on Dawn in August was a tad below that on Sun during our Christmas 2014 cruise. Much saltier, and sloppier presentation. I guess it just depends on how exacting the executive chef is. It will be interesting to compare Golden with Dawn and Sun.

Rare Womble99 Posted January 6, 2016 #100 Share Posted January 6, 2016 Sarah, how did the tendering go at Port Arthur? Did they manage to get the return trips worked out or was there delays? It was a bit of both on our cruise one port had huge lines while the other wasn't too bad so I was interested to hear how they went this time?
