Late Back To The Ship

I don't recall ever being late for the next port because some tardy person delayed our departure. If one day they do, then I might think some negative thoughts about them. But until then, I will enjoy the added free entertainment they provide.:D

I don't pay close enough attention to the time when on board so I don't know if we ever waited for someone. But we always get back on the ship an hour before departure. And often times we have enjoyed watching the late comers run down the pier. One time we saw a very exciting situation where someone sort of had to jump! Hard to describe - it wasn't far and there was someone helping him.

  • 5 months later...

We once saw a group of people who'd travelled by train from Le Havre to Paris, and were late back, so the pilot boat brought them across. I would rather have flown to the next port than climb the pilot's ladder into the ship...

Once we waited in Invergordon, Scotland, for people whose names were being announced. There were pipers entertaining us from the dock.

When the people were spotted, the pipers all turned and walked towards them, escorting them back to the ship, still playing Highland airs! :D

We met a lady who missed the ship in Nassau. She and her husband went on a tour, she wanted to shop, he didn't so he got back on the ship. She mixed up the time she had to be back and saw the ship way out there. She was taken to a hotel. She had to pay for her room, dinner & breakfast. She was then flown to the next port via sea plane, Half Moon Cay, an island. The whole thing cost her $1800! She was an older lady and said she was NEVER going to miss a ship again!

Didn't realize I posted this here in February! Knew had posted it somewhere didn't realize it was here!

I want to leave on time. I want to get to my next port on time. And without the captain revving up all the engines to make up the time lost in waiting for the inconsiderate cruisers.

Who do you think ultimately pays for the increased cost of fuel when the ships speed up?

The people are rude. These are the same people who make the tour busses wait whilst they continue shopping or snapping more pictures. And most of you take private tours because you don't want to wait for them on the bus. I don't want to wait on the bus and I don't want to wait on the ship. Leave them behind.

(The video is from April, 2016.)

It was reported that:

1. The ship had already waited 1/2 hour.

2. Only the mother was late. The father left the ship to find her - that's the reason both parents were left on the dock.

3. The children were not left alone, an uncle was on board.

The mother appears to be healthy and is carrying a shopping bag. No sympathy for this pier runner - next case.

Unless delayed by a ship tour, the ship should leave precisely on time. If people are late - tough. The problem with people who are consistently late is that they get away with being late so they see no negative implications from being late. If they missed the ship, especially if the nest 4 or 5 days were sea days, they would learn a lesson and not be late next time. I have zero sympathy for the people who can not get back on time.

You don't know why they were late. Start there before starting the 'outrage'.

I don't know where you get "outrage" from. So far no one on this thread has been nasty about someone missing. However, you don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure most of the cases where people are stumbling down the pier or laughing and joking casually walking while we are past time to leave are drunk. Of course there are legitimate reasons but let's be honest. The by far majority are people that were drinking or so self absorbed that they couldn't care less about being late because they were special.

Sounds like you might have been in the "left behind" group. Tell us your story and let us judge.

This one got zero sympathy from me. Give me a break. She gets down on her knees and begs for the ship to return. Maybe she should have thought about that before shopping instead of getting back on board in time. The thread on this one was 98% against her. The self centered really do think the world revolves around them.

That would have been worth seeing. Were they playing "Loch Lomond"?

For those that don't know this song, the chorus starts:

"O ye'll take the High Road,

And I'll take the Low Road,

And I'll be in Scotland afore ye."

:D

:D I suppose we could have sung: "And we'll be on Norwegian Jade afore ye."
