mk960072 Posted March 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2016 Looking for a market as we will be there on Saturday, June 11 and would like to browse produce and locally made items if they have one. If not is there a local town that has one? Also, wanted to ride the ferry to other towns in the area, cannot seem to find a ferry schedule, anyone have any experience with this? :)
Rare pinotlover Posted March 13, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2016 Ferries are more difficult. Most people take the trains that run regularly between the towns along the coast. Other option is a sight seeing cruise, but that requires being arranged or making the reservations.
buggins0402 Posted March 13, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2016 2015 Ferry schedule: http://www.apathtolunch.com/2014/07/portofino-ferry-boat-schedules-from.html That should give you an idea of times and frequency. A ferry sounds like a nice alternative for that port. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
nvgal Posted March 14, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 14, 2016 I think the ship will anchor and see if you can get the boat to Santa Margarita. It is at the end of the bay and a lovely city with a statue of Columbus pointing out to sea. Beautiful!!

It is at the end of the bay and a lovely city with a statue of Columbus pointing out to sea. Beautiful!! I second that. We took the local bus into Santa Margherita (very scary ride around the bays but worth doing), then caught the ferry back to Portofino. If you fancy a drink in Santa Margherita, drop into the Black Stallion Bar- https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g187827-d2171955-r114724329-BLACK_STALLION-Santa_Margherita_Ligure_Italian_Riviera_Liguria.html as they serve a huge platter of food with every drink. You won't need lunch!

Rare Keith1010 Posted March 19, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2016 Visit both places. Portofino and Santa Margherita are both charming. Yes, you will anchor. Keith

Santa Margarita is indeed a lovely city, fun to explore on foot, and much less crowded than Portofino. One of my husband's photos of SM was the wallpaper on my PC for months. Rare Keith1010 Posted March 19, 2016 #11 Share Posted March 19, 2016 Do both cities. They are both lovely. And there are parts of Potofino that are not crowded. You have to walk a little.' Keith

Rare Keith1010 Posted March 19, 2016 #13 Share Posted March 19, 2016 Rather then take a ferry, we went with two other couples in someone boat. We negotiate a fare. I think around 20 minutes. Here are some photos of Portofino. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ckcch1DpcEo/VWP79h-mtZI/AAAAAAAAwJ4/uYlek75e8s4/s1600/DSC_3745.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FzvSIr-XC9M/VWP-XRGxl5I/AAAAAAAAwKY/w2XGcOxWDv8/s1600/DSC_3747.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CZMZDHhV4NI/VWQ4Ja_29kI/AAAAAAAAwL8/4D9WE_Mg9T0/s1600/IMG_4872.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iRV22gSMoyg/VWQ7QiHAMII/AAAAAAAAwMo/bIeMo65C-tI/s1600/IMG_4882.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XB2wZVc33q0/VWQ8bcmeLYI/AAAAAAAAwM8/tWzIPnwh-uo/s1600/IMG_4890.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7ooZ46uNZfw/VWQ8wLwXq1I/AAAAAAAAwNE/bBAyuR_BASg/s1600/IMG_4898.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tzcjybCfqOk/VWQ9rhylhxI/AAAAAAAAwNc/onqopsLzCeE/s1600/IMG_4903.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5yKySQwUPMg/VWQ9_ssLMeI/AAAAAAAAwNk/JLPyhdwSg2o/s1600/IMG_4904.jpg Keith
hawky Posted March 19, 2016 #14 Share Posted March 19, 2016 There is a beautiful path through the woods with the most stunning views if you care to walk from Portofino to Santa Margherita. It's a little over three miles and simply amazing.

hawky Posted March 20, 2016 #17 Share Posted March 20, 2016 Sorry, the path was not heavily used and all the hikers were of the two footed variety.:D

Both towns are very charming and the walk along the sea after the path is lovely. Portofino is one of my all time favorite places.
