False Advertising - Majesty of the Seas

Just had a family remember return from the 3/14-3/18 sailing on Majesty and they were completely duped by false advertising on the RCCL website. Even today, Majesty has yet to enter dry dock, but there on the website it states:

"It's time to ditch ordinary vacations - and discover extraordinary in paradise. The ultimate family vacation, with thrills for adventurers of all kinds, and all ages. The new Majesty of the Seas has been made over from bow to stern to offer more splashes, more excitement, and more family fun. Kids can have fun by the gallon at the new Splashaway Bay aqua park, and catch a movie at the new poolside movie screen. Plus there's more to do with your time away from the kids too. Like casino action at a fully reimagined Casino Royale, and updated venues and bars. And you can share every moment with VOOMSM, the fastest Internet at sea. All while sailing to our exclusive island - CocoCay - where you can unwind a private cabana, or discover even more ways to play at the floating aqua park."

Ha! Imagine their surprise when they boarded to find none of these additions. To say they were disappointed is an understatement. They've contacted RCCL regarding this matter, so who knows what, if anything will come of it.

I mean to post this a PSA for those sailing Majesty in the next few weeks. It looks as though the dry dock that was supposed to happen in March will now take place in April.....I just can't believe RCCL would leave the above advertising on their site while none of it is true.

They booked the week before the sailing. Last minute spring break change of plans and specifically were sold on the ship because of what was posted above.

Imagine someone going online right now lookin for a last minute getaway next week....would you call it false advertising? I certainly do.

It states majesty 'has been' remade as though it's already been completed.

I am not defending Royal, clearly someone in the advertising department put up a promo that was created and intended for us AFTER the drydock.

Let's also be clear, Her Majesty of the Seas was always scheduled for her drydock at he end of April. It is not as if they had it scheduled for March and moved it to a later date.

Yes, someone, made an error with the placement of this on the website, since many of the listed items will not be there until after the ship has its' drydock.

They are totally misrepresenting what is on that ship right now, your friends have every right to be upset. I was going to say that there are two sets of deckplans that show what is on the ship now and what will be after drydock, but even the dates on those are incorrect.

Thanks for the support everyone. I was fully expecting to catch some heat on this but glad to see all agree. I really hope no one else gets spurned by this because it is truly a shame. All RCCL needs to do is pull that language to avoid any future misleads.

Keep us posted with their response. Lets hope they make it right.

If not done so already, I suggest your friend take some screen shots of the advertising so there's no arguing over what was posted. I just looked for myself - This would be upsetting to me as well - as much as I love Royal I cannot defend them on this as it is a clear misrepresentation of what they are offering.

Funny though they managed to remove free Voom.

I think a quick question to RCI or whoever you booked with could have told you when dry dock was. Upgrades at dry dock seemed very important to you so I would have checked. Also if you are a regular reader of Cruise Critic I'm sure Majesty has been mentioned a number of times and that would have answered your question. No, I don't think compensation is warranted - if for you would have to be for everyone on that sailing and there doesn't seem to be an outcry on CC.

Seriously? No you can't be.

My entire family does not follow cruisecritic like I do....this was their 3rd cruise ever. Booked last minute from Royal's webpage that specifically stated the ship had already received these upgrades only to find that not true the day they boarded.

Why would they even think to call and confirm upgrades that are being represented as already done? I wasn't even on the sailing, so I couldn't care less about the drydock upgrades. I am just shocked if this is the way Royal earns business.....I really hope its an honest mistake.

I only mentioned the drydock piece because I was appalled to hear their story when they returned and did a little research of my own. I honestly thought my family made the mistake.

It was still there in my original posting. That piece I wasn't sure if it was already on the ship so did not include it. My family didn't utilize the internet on the ship so I can speak to it.

Based on the information, highlights, and photos on Royal's page any reasonable person would definitely think these features are on the ship now.

Squadron, look at that link.

If you saw that link before you booked a cruise would you think you had to ask the company if those items were REALLY available? Wouldn't it appear pretty obvious with all the highlights and "new" splashed all over that the ship currently has these features.

I would agree with OP in asking you "seriously?" Why should someone have to ask when dry dock is in order to find out if ADVERTISED upgrades are present? What about the average cruiser that may not even know what dry dock is? They read the published description, and rightfully believe they will receive all of those updates. Do you realize what a small percentage of cruisers read CC?

Exactly! It says the Majesty "has been made over". Not "will be made over".

??? Why would anyone booking a last minute cruise, choosing a ship based on the amenities it offers which are clearly advertised on Royal's site, ask about dry dock? When I book, I assume what is advertised will be delivered.

The online ad shows what the ship has to offer. The customer booked. The ad was erroneous and the ship did not yet have the amenities that were advertised. The customer was upset because he bought something that was not delivered. You missed the point.

There is knowing and there is assuming. The OP's family "knew" the upgrades were done because the cruise line's own web site told them so. Squadron "assumed" that they should have been suspicious of the facts presented on said web site. Most of us would never even think of checking whether the cruise line's web site is telling the truth without a valid reason.

This, to me, is one case where 99% of CC members rightfully agree with OP.

Come on? That is the most asinine response someone can make. Really?!? Having to call the cruise line after you book to make sure the has the options is says it has and advertises. It's false advertising all the way. You must have nothing better to do with your time but to try and start conflict here on CC. Wrong is wrong and you my friend are WRONG.
