Disembarkation times

Since we are new to Oceania, don't really know how this works--if the ship itinerary shows it coming in to port at 8 am, do you arrange your pick up time for transfer back to the airport at 8 am? Or do you not really get off at 8 am?

I know on other ships, you can request certain debarkation times depending on how soon you have to get to the airport. On our other cruises, because we live 30 minutes from the port, we always take the latest time since we don't have to punch a clock and let others who need to get going leave first. Does Oceania do this also?

Our flight is leaving at 11:15, it's about an hour to the airport, and we have to allow 2 hours before the flight, according to the airline. So we'd need to get off at 8 am. Will that be a problem?

Also, for port excursions not arranged through Oceania, if it says 8 am arrival on the itinerary, and the excursion leaves like at 8:30 from the port, will we actually get off the ship at 8 or 8:30? I know that Oceania gives preference to those on their own excursions, but how hard is it to leave the ship on time?

How about when the ship is anchored and we need to get a tender to take us to the port? Should we allow more time then?

Thanks from a novice O cruiser.

What port is disembarkation?

It will depend on if the ship has to be cleared by the authorities what time you are allowed off

You can request the early time slot ...will you get it maybe

I would have a private service pre booked to get you to the airport ..that is cutting it close if you are an hr away

for shore excursions same deal it depends on when the ship is cleared

If it is a tender port it will take longer to get ashore

most private guides will know how long it takes to get off the ship

The June cruise we have coming up on the Riviera originally showed (online) an 8am arrival into port on last day of cruise. Because of our flight time back (11:25am), I called Oceania to confirm and was told the ship would be arriving into port at 6:00am (not 8am) and that 11:00am was the earliest one should make a departure flight time. So...we are thinking we will ask to 'walk off' the ship ... taking our own luggage (ie not putting it out for pickup the night before) as early as we can....and probably arrange for a private transfer. So...you should call Oceania to make sure what the correct time is the ship does dock. As was said in other posts, however, customs clearance is the unknown and if you have to use a tender...who knows. However if it is the final day of any cruise cannot imagine you would have to tender unless you have special arrangements. This is our first cruise with Oceania...so I do need to veryify that we can 'walk off' ... as is available on every other cruiseline we've been on. Enjoy your cruise!

It's Customs, not the Cruise-Line, which runs the show on debarkation day, and until they give the all clear, there are generally gendarmes at the foot of the gangways who wont let anyone go anywhere, period.

One cannot fight City Hall successfully, so we always bite the bullet on our return flights and book later in the day flights.

We're just keeping an ulcer at bay!

Absolutely correct answer - and in Civitavecchia it is a long run to the airport! Good luck.:)

For example on the Regatta, in San Francisco, we arrived at 0545 in the morning, were tied up by 0610... Gangway down, bag handelers ready, US Customs rule is that no one gets off till ALL the bags are off.!!! AND they waited to release the ship till exactly 0800... we in a long line of carry our own bags stood and waited. In Miami....same deal got off by 0900 but docked at 0645....

So thats pretty much the reality...in the USA or now Europe, which is now under even tighter controls as a result of the evolving problems. Dont expect to be off till a good 1.5 hours after 0800 !!! Thats the reality

You need to get a later flight. Is this one that Oceania arranged for you, or did you do it yourself?

The port to the airport is a long ways and checkin at FCO can be a nightmare. I would not book a flight that left any earlier than noon and 1 would be better.

I think ur taking an unnecessary risk with an 11:15 flight

Yup. Need time to get off, collect your luggage and find your car. All takes time. A long ride to the airport. You could miss your flight. Go a little later.
