Stockholder OBC again

I do not think you get credit back in cash for this. However, HAL has been known to give you cash back at the end when perhaps they were not supposed to (I think that it is due to the limitations of their onboard accounting system).

We book through HAL, so we see all of our OBC (on board credits) in a lump sum per person on our booking reservation confirmation letter that HAL emails us. You just have to keep track of the total you are due to be certain everything is there.

If you have OBC left that you can't find a way to spend (), and don't want to lose it in the Casino, and you won't get it back, then on the last night go to the Front Desk and increase your HSC by that amount.

That way the money doesn't go to waste, and does go to those who work so hard to make your cruise special.

We've had leftover OBC on 2 of our HAL cruises and both times the amount was refunded to our credit card on file. Final bill showed a credit and that amount was what we received back.

I think this may change given the official policy but just sharing my experience.

If you don't use all of your stockholder credit on a cruise, do you get a cash refund of the unused amount? And if you credited your account ahead of the cruise?

I usually have a combination of HAL(stockholder, promotion) and purchased OBC. I usually go to the front desk after about 10pm and have never had any problem with getting a cash refund. On the last cruise, I did have a supervisor come over and check the screen to make sure I had spent all the HAL OBC, not a problem as most of it was covered with the service charge.

If any of your OBC was purchased or gifted by someone like a Travel Agent it is fully refundable. OBC given by HAL is listed as non refundable.

As you know the shareholder credit is from CarnivalCorp, not HAL. As such, it is a "use it or lose it" credit.

CarnivalCorp isn't going to give a full retail refund of the shareholder credit.

Our last few cruises we have had a surplus, yes there is such a thing, of OBC the last full day of the cruise.

What was suggested to us from other CC members on this board is to go to the Casino and play a couple pulls of the slot machine and then cash out immediately after. To cash out you take your card to the cashier, tell her/him you want to cash out and they will hand you the money:)

We were a bit skeptical the first time so asked one of the Casino employees to show us how, which she did.

This last cruise in November we each cashed out over $400.00 USD, if I remember correctly. It was a lot!!

Looks like we'll be doing the same thing in 3 weeks:) As of today, not counting Carnival stock, we have over $500.00 USD each.

Just make sure you CASH out before the casino closes!!

Last cruise we had a substantial sum of OBC, we had not used it all by the last evening, so after making purchases at the shop, asked for the remainder to be added to the Hotel Service charge, the staff were happy to do that:).

The current Carnival Corp. (incl HAL) Shareholder Benefit document states,

"...This benefit is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash and, cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account."

I am not quite sure how it would work I. The casino. You have to load money into the slot machine before you can do a couple of pulls. ThT is charged to your room. I don't think they would use OBC before charging your room, but I may be wrong. Hasn't happened to me

I'll have hubby, Crew News, explain it in detail when he wakes.

Basically, your Stock is listed as OBC and OBC is not broken down by where or whom it came from. It is lumped as a total amount.

As I said, hubby can explain it better than I.

I also have had left over stock credit refunded to the credit card for my final bill, more than once. Obviously this is different than the front desk handing out cash to passengers.

Also on a 7 day cruise we were given $250 obc per person because of major port changes. I asked the front desk if any left over would be refunded from my final bill to my credit card and they said yes. Others were running in circles trying to spend all the money before they left the ship.

I'm confused now. I called HAL and they said that you can NOT get any money back from your OBC if you received the OBC from your travel agent and didn't spend it all on the cruise. He said you have to spend it on the cruise or loose it. Is he wrong?

Any OBC you get directly from HAL as part of a promotion or as a stockholder is non refundable. Some of the promotion credit may look like it came from a Travel Agent, but could be part of something like a group booking which would not be refundable.

If a Travel Agent, or anyone else for that matter, purchases OBC for you, that is refundable at the end of the cruise. If you try to get it earlier, other than the casino trick, you may be charged a small transaction fee.

Wondering how you accumulate that much credit before you sail>>>

I think the OBC given as port credit is totally different. That is money you spent, but for whatever reason was not used as a port tax. Instead of crediting your credit card right away, they gave into you as OBC. Any unused would naturally go back on your credit card

Agree with this. It is really a refund of money you already paid and not a HAL credit.

Our Oosterdam cruise Nov 2015 accumulated $1850 in OBC due to HAL apology credit for altering our Eurodam cruise, Explore 4, FCD, CCL Stock, and early booking.

Unable to spend all of the excess, we decided to spend the balance, that we noticed on our last day bill, in the Casino. We decided to establish a Casino account by inserting our stateroom card in a penny slot machine and entering the amount of excess OBC as our limit. That amount was immediately charged to our stateroom and eliminated all of our credit balance.

After realizing that it would take us forever to spend all of our limit at the penny machine, we decided to just cash out at the Cashier's cage. The Cashier insisted on paying what we had not used of our limit in cash and would not credit our stateroom account. With a fuller wallet, I could only smile at what I learned here on CC..

I hope you at least played a couple of pennies on the machine before you cashed out!

Absolutely, played a few pulls and was ahead nearly $6 which earned me a pocketful of loose change in addition to the bills at cash-in. Since there was a $500 limit for Casino charges, Joanie's separate $400 efforts turned a $20 loss.

Beats having to pay them 3% to get your money! But, $6 is alot of pennies to carry around.

It was 78 cents if I remember correctly but not all pennies. The best part was the additional quiet money that was gladly accepted.
