VOOM Roll Call

Recommended Posts

I've heard from cruise director praising Voom and saying its in the "testing stage" as it went online the first day of this cruise on May 8th, Im a little disappointed but will update if anything changes over the next 10 days or so.

Yeah be good if you can update! Not sure what to expect for my cruise later this month.

Its between buying the VOOM if the service improves on Navigator or a pack from my mobile provider for Data when in port.

Thanks very much for the update. It would be great to get updates if things improve. Still deciding if it's worth paying for internet as DW is not very patient waiting for pages to load :D.

Thanks

I think there might be an easier way of telling if you have the real Voom. I'm aboard Allure now which does. My public IP address is showing as being owned by O3b Networks USA LLC which we know is Voom. I'm betting non-Voom ships show as something else.

To test this theory, we need someone aboard a non Voom ship to visit http://www.whatismyipaddress.com and look at the ISP name.

On Navigator:

ISP: Harris CapRock Communications

Services: None Detected

City: Miami

Region: Florida

Country: United States

your right its definatly not VOOM especially with the speeds I was experiencing, noticed some people out with their laptops at customer service probably complaining about no VOOM. they keep saying its VOOM and selling it onboard like voom but its not, isnt that illegal? :P

That makes absolute sense. And it does look like we can at least use this method for now to track the "real Voom". :-)

When they say one device, does that mean one device at a time, or are you only allowed to use the same one device?

You can use any number of devices but only one at a time. To switch devices, you may need to visit logoff.com to end the first device session before it normally times out.

A bit shady but not illegal since they don't have performance numbers listed with VOOM. Now, when you buy STREAM and your Netflix doesn't work, then you can say they didn't deliver the promised product and get your money back.

Not illegal, but now we know why they made up the name "VOOM" rather than saying O3b. They can re-define VOOM to be whatever they want at any time.

It's much easier to roll out VOOM to all 25 ships when you simply declare the old internet as VOOM.

Definitely a different experience on Indy for me st the moment still - not had any drop outs at all! Thinking the surf and stream package must be bit different would ask to go on to that one if you're having problems still if it was me!!

Hotel director also said that three new antennas were installed above the sky bar a few weeks back in preparation for it so definitely dependent on new hardware.

Can anyone confirm VOOM on Liberty? We're sailing in July and I don't want to pre-buy a package if it's not going to be available.

All the reports from Liberty indicate slow, geosync satellite internet.

In fact it is worse in my opinion, it could be because of our location but ir is noticeably worse. I could barely keep video skype online today. I went to guess services and inquired about VOOM again saying its so slow and they told me its VOOM, and I informed her the IP address thing is not the o3p thing and she said of course it has nothing to do with it. and insisted the service onboard is VOOM. Again, i would say a good portion of the people in line at guest services in internet related.

Thanks for you comments. It's interesting to see, I think they should have been more careful in rolling out "VOOM" because it seems it's just a cover up for the same old rubbish internet

Grandeur report from this thread:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2355532

Just wanted to update anyone looking for newly tested VOOM speeds. I'm getting very good surf and stream around 4mbps download and 3mbps upload. Ping is pretty high but streaming in HD works great. 12.99 value is worth it IMO for a single device. No complaints.

[/url]

I'm getting pretty high pings 500/600 ish but does not seem to impact streaming. Kids watched Netflix no issues last night on my Samsung S6.
