Suit cases?

Recommended Posts

Doing domestic Australia flights prior to cruise out of Sydney. Have a 21" carry on suitcase that works well in the US. Does anyone know whether this size will comply with Australian rules?

It should do. For the definitive answer, it's best to check the relevant airline you're flying with. For example, here's Qantas: http://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/carry-on-baggage/global/en#carry-on-baggage-allowances

It is definitely personal preference! I changed to the 4 wheel style, and like it! :) I've wheeled it over some brutal surfaces with no issues. I like soft sides, never had an issue with rain because I put everything in zip lock bags.

I have bright blue and so far haven't seen many others, I'm sure it will catch up. Red is very popular and I gave up my 30" red one because it was too easy to get over 50 lbs. I went back to the 26" size, and manage to keep the weight to 44 lbs.!

Have used both hard and soft sided cases, two wheels and four wheels.

We find large wheeled sports' bags easier than cases though...mainly because they're lighter but still sturdy.

I have never been able to pack lightly even after reading numerous blogs on the subject.

I find using space saver bags is good to free up some room BUT just forces me to put more in and bags/ cases get even heavier !!!

I need an air hostess or packing specialist to give me a packing lesson..somehow I keep adding things 'just in case'...possibly due to the

wide variety of weather we can have in one day in GB !

What about Laptop's? I'm planning on taking mine, but I get worried about the airport and ship staff throwing the cases around. I did have a case for it, don't know where it is at the moment, will have to find it, but has anyone had any issues with broken electronics like laptops when they have received their luggage?

We have carry on bags with a laptop pocket built in. IMHO anyone who puts a laptop in their main luggage is begging to have it stolen.

Agreed!

Never put anything valuable, and that includes anything like laptops, in checked-in luggage. Always carry it with you, either in your carry-on or in a separate laptop bag.

+1

We don't take laptops now as we can do what we need on iPads and phone. Looking at the safe on Sun Princess last week, I don't think my laptop (11 inch) would have fitted in it. By the time we put wallets, passport holder, camera etc in there I could fit my iPad in but not much else.

I have a large 'handbag/tote' and take passport holder, camera, iPad, jewellery (if taking any that's not being worn), make-up ('cos that's valuable to me :)) as well as the usual handbag stuff. Mr AF has a day pack that he usually takes with all his important stuff. I load all the documents/tickets/seapass etc onto phone and iPad so I can get at them easily and lock copies in checked luggage.

Hmm, thats a good idea about a carry on with a pocket for the laptop, didn't know about that, thanks for the tip Russell21.:)

Most places that sell luggage will have a selection of wheeled "business" carry-ons. These have the laptop pockets. Mine is an Antler and it has a zipped cover over the main part of the bag so I can take my laptop out without anyone seeing what else I'm carrying in there. The front section has useful pockets for things, one of which is zipped. http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/ProductDisplay?urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10051&categoryId=578051&productId=8226032&errorViewName=ProductDisplayErrorView&urlLangId=-1&langId=-1&top_category=102052&parent_category_rn=&storeId=10051

Ordinary carry-ons usually just have one compartment and a front pocket.

Go to Strandbags, this is where we got our black shoulder strap carry on bags. Main packing in the centre, zippered front thin pocket for easy access to documents, separate thin laptop pocket at the back.

I was going to have a look at Strandbags a couple of weeks before we go, just to have a look, make up my mind whether I need it or not. I was thinking last night I might just take my Iphone, its big enough to watch videos and stuff on, its one of the bigger phones as I can't stand looking at small screens!

You've got plenty of time to make up your mind about what you want to take with you. Also suggest you have a look at what films etc are offered onboard. I wouldn't be surprised if you find you have no time to watch a film on your phone/laptop at all :)

Well thats what I am hoping, that we will be too busy during the day and tired at night, I hope the entertainment on Carnival Spirit goes until late at night, as I read somewhere on a review that they stopped the entertainment around 9.30-10pm, thats why I was going to bring my laptop, for something to do on the days and nights that are not busy!
