Cut off limit to gambling?

Just booked my annual Thanksgiving cruise on the Silhouette. For the first time will be bringing my mother in law (DMIL?). So DMIL is very excited there is a casino on the ship. She used to be a pretty sharp slot machine player back in the day. However at the tender age of 91 some facilities are not as keen as they used to be, and her eye sight is now very iffy. Since there is no cash per say that she will be using, is there anyway we could limit the amount she could loose in a day? I'm having nightmares of checking the OBC half way through the cruise and finding she is down $20K from the casino. We want her to have a lot of fun playing the slots but don't want to have to move her into the shed when we get back.

Any ideas?

Oh my! So nice you're taking her. You might want to keep her busy doing some other things.

Wonder if her own particular sea pass card could be linked to a different credit card and have a limit.

I'm sorry but I did have a wee bit of a chuckle at your post. :D Guess she wouldn't like a game of Rummy at a table in the card room and play for pennies?

She would love to plays cards - that's a great idea! That however wont keep her away from the slot machines for a long time

Just make sure her card is attached to yours and, as you can with dependant children, put a limit on her card. You could also tell her that the machines take cash only and give her a daily limit. I would do both.;)

We never get cash from our seapass card from the cashier in the casino. We just play with cash. If she plays with cash then when her cash runs out she won't have any left. I love the slots so I understand her passion but when I have no money left, I know it is time to find something else to do. Hope she is lucky and enjoys the casino.

Thanks to you all! I had no idea that you could still gamble with cash - I thought it all had to be done with the sea card ( as you know now, I don't gamble, except when I ask the bartender to make me an unusual drink)

So my DW then will give her cash each day to play with and as you have said, when its gone its gone

Again thanks!

If all else fails... Put a bar chair in front of the ATM and let her go wild.

Enjoy your cruise.

The only machine I win at on cruise ships is the ATM. It gives money all the time.

ROFL! And the odds at the ATM are far better than the slots (worst odds in any casino).

Last two sailings my cc groups held slot pulls. Both used $1 progressive wheel of fortune machines with $3 max bet. On Infinity last Sept we had 30 people put in $10 each, so we started with $300. After the first round that $300 had shrunk to less than $50 !!!!! Someone later hit a small jackpot that almost broke us even, but ultimately we lost it all. Two months ago on Eclipse we had 42 people at $15 each. We played one round and lost over half our money. Have never seen machines anywhere near as tight. Stick to the table games.

I love this thread! Light hearted and yet somewhat serious at the same time!! No judgements either, which is wonderful. I can see myself as someone who could have an issue with the slots if I didn't give myself a limit. This cruise coming up we have lots of non refundable OBC so thinking a visit to the casino may be in order. I give myself a limit of $10-$20 a night. It usually only lasts a good 5 min on the slots but I do enjoy those 5 min!!

Oops! I meant all good things only last 5 minutes! Whether it's the last 5 min of the game (any game!) the first 5 min of a good bottle of wine or any other 5 min you can think of! It's all about the 5 minutes

I believe I saw a sign at the casino cashier cage that says you can not take more than $2,000 a day out using your sea pass card.

So that means that OP doesn't need to worry about her charging $20K on a 7 night cruise since she'll max out at a mere $14K !

jrbeccles: Check at Guest Relations on boarding to see if you can get casino restrictions put on her seapass card.

LOL. I've always said change Machines (bill breakers) have the best odds in the house, a 100% return!

We found on the Eclipse that all but two of the machines were ridiculously tight. The other two paid us time and time and time again last year. We remember those machines :-)

Those are 0486 and 7835.
