funji1 Posted August 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Due to some serious complaints we had on our HAL cruise, after we returned home, the main HAL office provided us with OBC and free dinner in the Pinnacle Grill on a future cruise. Will Princess honor this OBC and dinner on our scheduled Princess cruise ? Thanks for your help!
mikesusan Posted August 5, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Even though the lines are all owned by Carnival they are separate and will not honor it

wheezedr Posted August 5, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2016 NO. May be jointly owned but operate as separate entities.
Pam in CA Posted August 5, 2016 #9 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Nope. No more than you could use a coupon for KFC at Pizza Hut or Taco Bell (owned by Yum Brands.) Princess and HAL are separate companies owned by the same corporation.
satxdiver Posted August 5, 2016 #10 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Carnival Corp owns HAL, CCL, Princess etc. However it is like a holding company in that each cruise line such as Princess operates as a separate company. The separate cruise lines owned by Carnival Corp do not acknowledge other sister cruise lines affinity programs, benefits, OBC etc. The only common benefit is if you own stock in the Carnival Corp, then you can get OBC on any of their cruise lines. The different Carnival Corp cruise lines in fact compete against each other for pax but the Corp recently moved to reduce the competition between cruise lines such that each is targeted to a specific market. emileg Posted August 5, 2016 #11 Share Posted August 5, 2016 As an aside, if you are on one of the Carnival Corp lines ships, say Princess, can you book another CC line ship, say HAL, at the future cruise sales desk? (While on Celebrity, you can book a future cruise on Royal Caribbean and Azamara. RCL brands also have reciprocity on elite status, up to a point.) While no, they can not use a HAL gift for dinner on Princess..... In 2013, there was a re-organization at Princess and Princess, HAL, Seabourn and HAL/Princess Alaska operations all fall under a new group called "Holland American Group" which is headed by Stein Kruse. So they are not as separate as they used to be. I don't know if this is still true since the re-org but at one time the Princess and Cunard Call Center people often answered both cruise line phone calls and the Princess Travel Agent reps also represented Cunard. myfuzzy Posted August 5, 2016 #15 Share Posted August 5, 2016 IMO, give both companies a call...I mean corporate, not the call center, tell them what happened...tell them what you want to do and see if they would cooperate with you.
Zooguy Posted August 5, 2016 #16 Share Posted August 5, 2016 It would be great if Elite benefits, OBC, and other perks were reciprocal between HAL and Princess. We're Elite on Princess but only 3 star on HAL. Many times I'd like to go with HAL but I chicken out as I would lose too much vs Princess Elite. Poor guy! Will Princess honor this OBC and dinner on our scheduled Princess cruise ? Thanks for your help! Though owned by "Carnivore" corp., each line is independently run. You might try searching a different HAL ship & itinerary. It's big cruise line. If you do have another bad cruise(what were the issues, by the way)Then you can switch to a different line. Princess is nice, but we prefer Cunard & Celebrity. Celebrity is owned by RCCL by the way.

Princess did a terrible job handling Cunard. Princess is a "standard" line. Cunard is considered "Premium".
