canadarocks Posted September 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2016 We're thinking about staying onboard for our Princess Cays day, the day after leaving Fort Lauderdale. Will we likely have a pretty empty ship to enjoy, or do a lot of people usually stay onboard?
floridalover5623 Posted September 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2016 Not as empty as it is at other distant ports but still pretty empty. Most everyone wants to get to the beach for the day. It is enjoyable to have an empty ship.
reedprincess Posted September 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2016 We're thinking about staying onboard for our Princess Cays day, the day after leaving Fort Lauderdale. Will we likely have a pretty empty ship to enjoy, or do a lot of people usually stay onboard? Most people's people get off the ship, probably in the order of 70% or more. The ship should be fairly empty. Great time to enjoy the amenities! We have two Princess Cays stops coming up on our next cruises, and will not be getting off the ship on either one. Do not enjoy that tender line on return, and do enjoy the empty ship - so it's a win win.

Yes most of people get off :) :) Tony

micbri Posted September 16, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 16, 2016 We sometimes go out for the morning, have lunch and take a tender back right after lunch.

Yes most of people get off :) :)Never get off there either. Once was enough. I've found that the ship is pretty empty until maybe 1pm when people start returning. Moondogy Posted September 16, 2016 #10 Share Posted September 16, 2016 Sounds great, thanks. Any likelihood of spa specials that day? From what I've seen in the past, they do run specials. Never really looked at how good they were. If I remember right you might even be able to see some specials before you sail on the website.
ggprincess2004 Posted September 16, 2016 #11 Share Posted September 16, 2016 If it is a nice beach day, the ship will be fairly empty. But, as you see from the previous replies, staying on the ship on Princess Cays day is also a fairly popular strategy. We tend to stay on board, and enjoy a quieter, emptier ship. OCruisers Posted September 16, 2016 #12 Share Posted September 16, 2016 If it's a chilly rainy windy day in the winter months, LOTS of folks stay on the ship. ;)
Ereggae Posted September 16, 2016 #13 Share Posted September 16, 2016 Wish they would alternate with Grand Turk. Besides the beach and buffet lunch there is nothing much to do besides swimming or tanning. Suggest bringing water shoes as the beach is rocky. Princess tells you not to take your ID with you as they do not want you patronizing the locals beyond the gate. Take it with you nonetheless, as that is the only way to get through the gates. There are a few vendors there with stores.
TwoCruisers Posted September 16, 2016 #14 Share Posted September 16, 2016 With so few people on the ship, you might have a good chance to win at trivia! :D

chloe45 Posted September 16, 2016 #17 Share Posted September 16, 2016 We only got off once. The beach is very rocky. In the winter time it's still too far north for the water to be warm. We are fortunate enough to live near the beach.
Thrak Posted September 16, 2016 #18 Share Posted September 16, 2016 We live on the left coast and we're finally booked for our first Caribbean cruise but it's not until March 2018! It's a true 14 day cruise - Circle Caribbean - and I was surprised that it doesn't even stop at Princess Cays. As it's our first time in the Caribbean we would certainly have disembarked at that stop. Even after reading all of the "so-so" comments over the past few years I figure everybody should give it one try even if just to say they have done so. (Kind of like Ensenada...) I guess it will have to wait for our second Caribbean cruise whenever that might be. Oh the hardships of these first world problems!!!
Rare MISTER 67 Posted September 16, 2016 #19 Share Posted September 16, 2016 18 cruises with Princess and 49 overall, we stay on ship for most of the ports unless it's somewhere we haven't been to. I'm an avid reader and its nice to have a nice quiet ship. Just remember that the shops and the casino will be closed but the bars will be open. karena1 Posted September 16, 2016 #20 Share Posted September 16, 2016 It is ALL about the beach for me. I would rather lay on a beach than by a pool any day of the week. Only port we stay on the ship vs heading to a beach is Nassau - and that is only b/c the hotels RULE the nice beaches there and charge a fortune for you to enjoy I will be on the first tender off in Princess Cays and last tender back. If the weather is nice we totally enjoy the entire day out there just relaxing on the beach and chilling with a cold beverage! But I remember last time on Princess they were offering some spa specials on port days. Did not pay much attention as I never do anything with the spa. cbreit Posted September 16, 2016 #21 Share Posted September 16, 2016 I think we're also going to stay on the ship. Been there several times and not much to do, and the food is pretty awful in the buffet..

Been there several times and not much to do, and the food is pretty awful in the buffet.. We had bad food at times but most times it's been very good, for a beach meal. As long as everything is heated properly I'm happy.

metairiegal Posted September 17, 2016 #24 Share Posted September 17, 2016 I'm not really into the beach (we live 2 miles from the beach in Boca Raton, FL). But, I like to get off the ship just for a bit. Get on solid ground, walk around, see some new scenery and get some exercise.

Nothing beats a great beach day. More specifically, a private beach. -Andrew :)
