Iamthesea Posted October 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2016 After recently spending 2 weeks going to Michael's Club in the evenings, I wondered why the name? I meant to ask the concierge, but never got around to it. Is the club named after someone? Speaking of Concierge, we tipped ours on the last morning of the cruise as we were being escorted off the ship (Great service BTW. Skipped all the immigration lines.) However, we only saw one other couple tipping. Should we have not tipped her? We also tipped the bar tenders the last evening after having our drinks. We felt sure that they were not getting gratuities from the alcoholic beverage packages.

junetraveler2014 Posted October 28, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2016 I agree with Orator. Tipping is optional and being optional it is nobody's business what you do. Only important issue is if you did enjoy your cruise!:)

DId they tell you that or is there some other reason you believe this to be true??
Rare Texed Posted October 28, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 28, 2016 After recently spending 2 weeks going to Michael's Club in the evenings, I wondered why the name? . Michael is Michael Chandris, the son of the founder of the line that merged into Celebrity. Well, I'll be doggone! Thanks for the correction Orator. I thought it was named after the archangel Michael. :D

C 2 C Posted October 28, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 28, 2016 It originated on the Century and for the first few years was a Cigar bar. Micheal's Cigar bar was also featured on Zenith & Horizon. It was located next to the library.
Orator Posted October 28, 2016 #9 Share Posted October 28, 2016 Cigar Bar was smoked out when the no smoking policy was initiated. Celebrity tried several times to turn it into a revenue producer, but all efforts failed. Best known as Perry Grant's venue on Connie, but that too ended. Now a club for Suites and Zeniths. The revenue now comes from those who pay higher prices for Suites to use, or not use it.

Since you do not need to show your sea pass in Michaels Club they would not know if you had a beverage package, although most probably would have one. Caribbean Chris Posted October 28, 2016 #12 Share Posted October 28, 2016 Drinks are free in Michael's Club whether or not you have a beverage package. The Concierge(s) sit near the entrance and probably expect for a guest to greet them and volunteer their name and room number as a courtesy the first time a suite passenger enters. After that, they seem to recognize the guest on sight. If someone doesn't pause at their station, they'd probably politely inquire and explain. They have pictures of Zeniths and higher suite passengers. Suite passengers receive a special folder when they check in before boarding the ship. MCC sees these as the passengers enter on the first day. I was just on Infinity and the MCC asked those who he didn't recognize their room number. Caught a few that were not entitled to use Michael's Club and very politely told them about the Suite requirement. Erick did a great job and I look forward to cruising with him again. We missed meeting you on this sailing! I agree, Erik is a jewel. We really enjoyed suite class. Luminae was fantastic. Our next sailing is AQ, and as much as we enjoy BLU, we really loved Luminae. As mentioned, the drinks are free in Michael's club. We did have a drink package, but rarely used a bar tender outside of Michaels. We did not go to Michaels until the 3 night of our cruise. Too busy! The Concierge called our stateroom to check on us. The next evening, we walked in the door and the concierge immediately jumped up and said "Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. H----! So she must have had our photos. I am not sure how she recognized us from the photos because we do not photograph well. :D
Northern Aurora Posted October 29, 2016 #16 Share Posted October 29, 2016 then how do they know you are a suite passenger and you are allowed to be in that venue? Do they ask for your cabin number? LuAnn We just left the Solstice after a B2B in a Celebrity Suite. When we boarded on September 19th Celebrity Suites and higher were escorted to Michaels to wait until our suites were ready; Sky Suites seemed to be escorted to another location. That is when we met the MC concierge. I don't know when the Sky Suite passengers met the concierge. We like to do B2Bs, and given the pairing of the first cruise with the second a number of suite guests were also B2B (Honolulu to Sydney and then onto Singapore). So there weren't that many new faces to recognize for the second cruise. At least twice when we were in MC non-suite guests wandered in. Both times either the MC bartender or the concierge immediately approached them and spoke to them. One couple was just curious as to what MC is, but another guy was trying to find the men's restroom! Iamthesea Posted October 29, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted October 29, 2016 (edited) LOL, no, not vampires. Just pretty ugly in general. :D We just left the Solstice after a B2B in a Celebrity Suite. In the 4 Sky Suites we have had, we have never had an escort unto the ship or anywhere within the ship. We must look like we know what we are doing. And we usually do! DH is making a B-line to Luminae! :D This last cruise was the first time we were escorted off the ship. Very nice. Normally, we take our own luggage off. Change of subject... Could you explain a little more about your B2B itinerary, ship (I guess this was all on the Solstice), ports and timing on your recent cruise? I am intrigued with the cruise from Honolulu to Sydney. :) We are cancelling a February cruise to AUS/NZ and SING/HK because of the long flights, and the fact that I have not had the time to plan. We are going to reschedule for 2018. Edited October 29, 2016 by Iamthesea

PostcardJar Posted October 29, 2016 #21 Share Posted October 29, 2016 The MCC looks at pictures of the suite guests so that they get to know them. On my last cruise, we rarely went to Michael's club. I did go there for better internet access several days into the cruise, and a bartender politely asked to see my sea pass card to verify I was in a suite since he didn't recognize me. I was happy to oblige as I understand that is one of his jobs.

If you are in Michaels, the conceirge and bar tender know who you are.
