ddyer248 Posted November 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 23, 2016 We are cruising on the Princess Regal next week. We wives are concerned about our husbands & if they will be able to get into the ONE night we 4 are doing Formal night. They do not plan on packing dress coats, due to lack of luggage room. This is what they will be wearing which we, as their wives, think is appropriate. We wives will be wearing long dresses which are nice and appropriate jewelry. One spouse will wear black dress pants, black dress long sleeved shirt, black striped silk tie, and black dress shoes, which being all monotone is very appropriate and dressy for a gentleman. The other spouse will wear nice beige dress pants, purple long sleeved dress shirt and matching striped tie with dress shoes. We are hoping that what I have described will certainly be appropriate for us four. It would really be a disappointment to get all dressed up, and then be embarrassed being turned away in front of other dining guests Hughbud Dyer
capriccio Posted November 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 23, 2016 Asking this question on the Princess Board (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=197) will probably give you more accurate and current responses.

navybankerteacher Posted November 23, 2016 #6 Share Posted November 23, 2016 They will be fine. :) If by "fine" you mean that they will not be denied admission, you are probably right - because MDR staff generally tries to avoid confrontation. If you mean complying with Princess' requested dress code --- not so much. Tuxedos, dark suits or, at least, jackets and ties are called for. Check Princess sites. Rare Hlitner Posted November 23, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 23, 2016 They might be turned away if they do not have on some kind of jacket. But then again, it just depends who is working on the door. We were just on the Regal (2 weeks ago) and had a terrific cruise. A majority of folks do dress up on the formal nights...although many were far from "formal." Hank
Nebr.cruiser Posted November 24, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 24, 2016 They should be fine. My husband no longer takes a tux or suit but does wear dressier slacks and a sport coat on formal nights, mostly because he can no longer wear dressy shoes due to foot problems. Black walking shoes don't go well with a tux! He wears the sport coat on the plane so packing it isn't an issue, although he does bring two on longer cruises, so one is packed then. navybankerteacher Posted November 24, 2016 #10 Share Posted November 24, 2016 No one will be embarrassed for you and no one will turn you away. Enjoy your cruise. :) How can you be so certain that the maitre d' at the door when they show up not in compliance with the evening's dress code will not ask them to put on jackets? I agree that it is LIKELY that they can get by - but it is not a certainty on Princess ships.
Cruisin' Chick Posted November 24, 2016 #11 Share Posted November 24, 2016 We've had three formal nights on our last three cruises (two-week ones) and my hubby brought his sports jacket (he doesn't have a dark one, but he's worn this one to promotional interviews at work), two dress shirts (we always go to the self-service laundry on Princess at least once during a cruise) and three festive ties. No problem. On our last cruise, one guy at a table near us didn't wear a jacket but wore strange color long sleeve dress shirts...so the maitre'd didn't have a problem with this.
