Princess vs Celebrity

Don't particularly like the "class" distinctions on Celebrity. On Princess we are all equal.

equal my foot. Don't suite guests get breakfast in Sabatinis? an elite, suite and platinium lounge? and how about a separate restaurant for the new club class on Princess?

Yes, International Cafe has maybe three or four complimentary pastries from which to choose. At the Al Bacio coffee shop on Celebrity, you will have about two dozen different cakes, pastries, donuts, cookies, tarts, flavored croissants - all complimentary which change daily.

I must take exception to three or four pastries to choose from at the IC. There are so many more than that, at least a dozen more, including all that you named offered on Celebrity. And in addition there are soups, salads and paninis. My favorite stop on the ships that have an International Cafe. Dont know how anyone could sell it short!!!

OK, shoot me, but I'm astonished that anyone would choose a cruise line (even a little bit) on the basis of ice cream or petits fours. I love the look of X's ships compared to Princess', but Celebrity, despite advertising a lot in San Francisco, only rarely sails out of here (or anywhere on the USA's West Coast, for that matter).

Yes, I'd do that... ;)

For me, especially when booking a more sophisticated, "premium" cruise line I ask for some details others do not have, so they are "filling the gaps" and provide an "I-icing on the cake" - things such as petit fours, creating own sundaes, filet mignon, tea time and cost-free service @open-air-cinema are such things seperating a premium line from a standard one - and all those features offers Princess, but not Celebrity - and the prices are more or less the same, so why not booking the better ones providing more?

Design is very subjective, and provides a feeling of being in a premium environment by just offering standard fare items.

IMHO that's Celebrity's point, they're rather selling a feeling than a fact, as Princess does.

For me: More fact, less feelings and illusions.

Okay, when evaluating cruise lines one also should consider the suite life, and there Celebrity offers more than Princess and provides different classes, so here they're providing the advertised "Modern Luxury" - but also the non-suite-guests deserve premium service...

It's still in one of the main restaurants. They just section off a small part & offer a more upscale menu.

It's the old adage: "You get more, if you pay more".

A passenger on the Ruby in Club Class posted that the menu is exactly the same as the regular menu but has a different cover.

There was an item prepared tableside, but that additional item was not in the printed menu.

And to make the class distinction even more obvious, on embarkation day if you were not in Club Class you could no longer eat lunch in the dining room.

Well, that's a bit of a bummer. Relaxed luncheon vs. queuing up at the trough? No contest. Still, given my variable experiences with being expeditiously admitted to sail-away day lunch, I wonder how stringently that's going to be enforced fleetwide. It's not like there's ever more than a handful of passengers, aside from BVE folks and TA types, who make it to the MDR by the lunchtime deadline.

So will they let the hoi polloi pee in the restrooms near the dining room, or are they reserved for Club Class too?

Your post is inaccurate and misleading in part. Celebrity also serves petit fours, filet mignon, and sundaes for dinner. Celebrity has both complimentary and extra cost service at their outdoor cinema. Yes, the afternoon tea service on Princess is better, if you can find a seat. Princess has 'buy one, get one for a dollar' cocktails for an hour per day at one of the lounges, Celebrity has a half cost 'drink of the day', all day long at all of the lounges. We reached Elite level on Celebrity in 5 cruises over 60 days. It will take us 15 cruises or 150 days to reach Elite on Princess.

For the West Coast departure itineraries we search, Princess is more expensive than Celebrity in 'like for like' staterooms. For example, a Princess standard mini-suite is priced about the same (within $5 or$10 per day) as a Celebrity Aqua stateroom but you get a dedicated dining room and complimentary access to the Persian Gardens. A Princess Club class mini-suite is priced abut the same as a Celebrity Sky Suite but you get high end dedicated dining, butler, complimentary premium beverage package, complimentary gratuities, several hundred dollars of OBC, and unlimited complimentary Internet. I am sure you can find some Princess sailings that are priced less than Celebrity. But you can also find some Celebrity sailings that are priced less than Princess.

Princess has now joined the class conscious movement by providing their new "Club Class." From now on, pax will not get the premium service offered to Club Class on Princess.

It appears that Celebrity and Princess are comparable in most areas. The one that gives me pause is smoking. Princess allows smoking in the casino and Celebrity does not. Some people have commented that many more smokers are on Princess vs Celebrity. We are not smokers and prefer Celebrity for this reason.

We DID notice many more smokers in the designated smoking areas. No matter what people will say, we did smell smoke in some areas of the Regal.

Hello CC-members:)

We enjoy to cruise and we have been on several Celebrity cruises. We have also tried MSC, river cruising and Hurtigruten. But the last cruises has been whit Celebrity.

But we are starting to feel the need for expanding the search for new destinations:rolleyes:

We are looking on cruises from Princess since they offer more of the exotics and they have a wider fleet all over the world.

We like smaller ships, its more intimate and it fits us good.

Things we like whit X:

-nice staterooms (we always have balcony or conciergsclass)

-not to many children

-classy partyfactor( we are not pensioners, but we like to go early to bed and dont stay up all night for party)

-good selection on wine

-good food

Which ship do you recommend for us to try on princess?

What types of stateroom is equal to conciersclass on X?

Do you have a exotic sailing you recommend?

For a change, why not book a World Cruise with Cunard? :)

Happy sailing.
