Choosing a hotel

Since you arriving a couple of days early I'd recommend staying in Miami; definitely more to do there. We like staying near South Beach area; close enough to walk to the beach and nightlife but far enough away to be less crazy and noisy right by the hotel. We had a nice two night pre-cruise stay at this Bed & Breakfast a few years back:

In Feb our cruise will leave out of Miami but we fly into Fy Lauderdale. We are arriving 2 days early. Where should we stay? Now in can even be between the two cities. too many choices to decide.

When we fly into FLL we usually stay at the Hampton Inn AirPort North or the Embassy Suites. If our Cruise leaves out of POM we hitch a ride with SAS shuttle (http://www.ridesas.com) from our Fort Lauderdale hotel to POM. If we fly into FLL and cruise out of Miami, we rent a car, one way with drop off at MIA, then take the rental shuttle. As to hotel, we book the lowest cost of our choice hotel chains (Marriott or Hyatt), alternating near Fort Lauderdale or Miami.

Holiday Inn Bayside Marketplace or others nearby..we fly into FLL day 1..

Take shared shuttle to hotel..no res needed...just walk out of FLL airport.

We spend 2 nights there pre cruise.,easy taxi to the ship

There are restaurants and shops at Bayside (search google) and lots of other stuff to do..The hotel has been refurbed..ok restaurant...nice outdoor pool.

We fly into Miami(Eclipse)so we stay at the "San Juan" hotel. Not 5 star, but still pretty decent. We don't care for the Shuttle cost, which is one reason we stay in Miami. The other, is that the San Juan is a 2 minute walk to Lincoln Rd. mall area.

If you are looking for a "destination" resort between the two, we really liked the Diplomat (it was a Westin when we stayed, it's a Hilton now). Great pools, right on the beach, several restaurants. You never have to leave the premises. It's in Hollywood, south of FLL, closer to FLL than Miami.

For two days early I would stay at the Blue Moon on Miami beach. Really nice hotel and a block off Miami Beach. Cab was about 15 minutes from the port of Miami.

The Intercontinental at Bayside is very nice in MIA. Lovely hotel has a Starbucks in side the hotel and plenty of amenities. Across from the hotel is bayside. Lots of lovely restaurants and a small shopping area. Plenty to keep you busy for two days or if you fancy chilling it's also great! Hotel is right near the cruise port. You can see RCL head office and the cruise ships right from the hotel. If your lucky your see the dolphins swimming also right next to the hotel (we did on our last visit in January!

Do exactly the same thing. Southwest with cruise luggage is a big saver, and only flies FLL. Use SAS or Jiffy with hotel pickup straight too ship.

If you're a Jimmy Buffet fan, there's a brand new Margaritaville hotel in Hollywood also. We went there for the day and place looked gorgeous. Right across the street from Ft. Lauderdale Water TAxi stop.

Last year we stayed at the "Caribbean Resort". Just a few minutes north of where the Buffet is. We had dinner at GG's. Used to be a good ol' mob joint named the Gold Coast. We dined there whenever we visited my Aunt. Place had fabulous Prime Rib. GG's definitely still has some mob connection. A lot of Russians dined thee when we did last Feb.

When we stayed at the Diplomat we went to GGs twice (I think it's the same place - right on the intercoastal, we had Maine lobsters there?)

That Buffet place looks really cool!
