I’m on the same cruise and because of your post I checked my status for a balcony and I’m “processing”!!!! Woohoo!!!

That’s awesome! Congrats!

I have been checking religiously every day and today of all days I was out all day and didn’t check as often. Low and behold our bid was accepted today. Lol!

Just realized...we prepaid our gratuities prior to winning Haven upgrade...after upgrade, still shows that grat is prepaid so I guess NCL didn't charge us the extra gratuities pp per day for Haven suite..woohoo lol

Don't worry the difference will be charge to your onboard account daily during the cruise

for these bids, are these amounts in addition/above what you have already paid or are paying for your cruise? so if you are currently paying 750/pp for your current booking and you bid 750/pp for an upgrade that would be 1500/pp total that you are paying for your cruise? Im sorry if that sounds like a stupid question but i am a bit confused on how this works.

Yes your bids are in addition to what you have already paid for cruise

I actually bid in the fair range for the Haven Spa Suite and I didn't get that one. It's hard to figure out how it works.

Good luck!!

How it works? Though folks continue to compare what folks got on one cruise to another... the bottom line is you win by bidding more money than the next person in line.

And of course, they have to have cabins to move you to.

Somebody can easily win with a minimum bid one week, and have to bid middle to high to win the following week. # of cabins available and what OTHERS bid rule the deal.

I️ said that because in addition to this thread, I’m on every other one about upgrades with a spread sheet, and 1500 doesn’t match a bid for the category you referenced in that range. You also wrote many posts about upgrading to a balcony or min suite for same cruise for a few hundred dollars. Period, done with this, peace!

Lots of us would love to see some of that spreadsheet data. It would be interesting what all those data points are starting to reveal.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how it worked .I really didn't put much thought into it. Just bid on a few of the ones I was offered. Glad it worked out and we got an upgrade to the Haven !!

Along with the actual bid other things are taken into consideration..which is why 2 people may bid identical and one gets it and 1 does not.

Or 1 bids higher and does not get accepted and someone else bids lower for same cabin and is accepted.

Some additional factors considered are

1. Loyalty status...yup those higher levels pay off in many ways including upgrades. Loyalty is rewarded.

2. On board spending habits.

See number 1. If you have loyalty status and spend money on board ...art auctions. Casino. Shopping. Extra shows. Etc...you get rewarded.

They know the spenders will spend more when happy about an upgrade deal. Its all on file and they do check your cruise history

They will also look at those who have loyalty with competitors...if you are loyal to royal for example and have a higher status ranking. You have a higher likelihood of getting an upgrade accepted than someone who has cruised ncl 3 or 4 times and never spends a dime on board.

It is all about who is likely to spend more money and gaining market share ..turning loyal cruisers to other lines to loyal ncl cruisers.

These factors along with wjat is available. Including insides. And balconies

Last minute cruisers are often looking for a deal...so they will upgrade to balconies and haven in order to free up cheaper cabins which they can easily resell to last minute cruisers.

Earlier in this thread someone posted that the bidding process is done by an outside company. He seemed to have real knowledge of the system. Also, loyalty status is unknown and therefore not a consideration. Number of cruises and/spending habits on board also not relevant.

An earlier poster who had their bid accepted was a first time cruiser.

About the bids themselves:

Knowing the actual bid doesn't mean much unless you know the length of that particular cruise, so those posting as a position on the range apply better. This thread has been interesting, and makes me happy that so many fellow cruisers are happy with their wins. Or happy to stay put as the case may be!

Even that information is of marginal value. The only piece of information that really matters is what SOMEONE ELSE bid on YOUR cabin level on YOUR cruise. $200 winning bid from cabin A to cabin B last week has just about NOTHING to do with what will happen next week. Even if every single other factor is identical.

as to this thread... part of the reason it is so long is a result of the number of people that will not take a few minutes to even read a few pages of comments and ask the same question that was asked yesterday. Or hijack it all together with other nice comments, but not appropriate.

ok great thanks

do NCL let you know if its no good ?

also when do they take the money ?

They take the money if you've been successful.

There doesn' seem to be a pattern with regards to notification of unsuccessful bids. Everything ok bidding on is showing as sold out bit I've still not had any notification:(:(

if you place a bid and its not accepted are you given a chance to increase it

All bids are accepted.

When they are ready to fill cabins, they pick the highest bid (or bids) and assign them.

You can increase you bid if you want, but by then all the cabins are gone. And you have no idea at what cost.

BOTTOM LINE: You bid a $$ amount. They pick the highest bids.

I emailed NCL this morning about the bidding process and got this reply....

Good morning. There is no set time for this as it is based on availability, but always after the final payment date. Again it is all based on availability and is managed through a third party.

Something new to me which I have not read about before. This morning I inquired about my bidding email. Very long story short.....because my wife and I received a "Special" Promotion and pricing, which I'm still trying to figure out what that is we are NOT eligible to Bid. I spoke at length to two mangers at NCL. What they said was our TA should have told us about this. I contacted the TA and was told they know nothing about it. Either NCL or my TA (large company on east coast) dropped the ball. As far as the special price, we picked the beverage and dining package and got some OBC. They had the cheapest rate so we went with them. From the very first email I had asked if they are in the bidding system and they said yes. I guess I also should have asked if their were any restrictions:rolleyes:

To my knowledge, group pricing (assuming that's what you received) should still be eligible for Upgrade Advantage. Its possible if you received special discounted pricing through the TA (usually a joint marketing effort between the TA and NCL) that the terms of that particular deal excludes you from Upgrade Advantage. More likely, that particular TA might have completely opted out of the Upgrade Advantage program and none of their clients are ever eligible for bidding.

I know from other people who used this CC they have always received excellent deals and pricing. Our price was good, not great however they were the lowest. They completely IN the bidding system. One way or another I'll get to the bottom of it. I'll be talking to a manager or two from the TA later today.......you might even hear me yelling at them:') Someone along the way screwed up

I can't prove my theory, but I don't think all winning bids are based solely on the highest dollar amount. I do agree that it makes the most logical sense, however, I believe other factors are taken into consideration as well. Maybe some bids are just picked at random like the first time cruiser. The system may be computer generated but my guess is there is a human element factored into the final decision.

To add to this I spoke with my TA and the customer manger late this afternoon. In a nutshell NCL is saying we saved enough money and we are not allowed to bid......end of story. If we want to pay X amount of dollars to bring our rate up to the NCL price they will let us bid:'). TA says this is not over, their is nothing written in the NCL policy. I was the second person to call today about this.
