Aus Traveller Posted February 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2017 There was a report that they will miss Fiordland and will be going directly from Port Chalmers to Sydney.
Te Aroha Posted February 10, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2017 Emerald is due to leave at 4 pm today sailing directly to Sydney, after the authorities have finished their investigation. If they get away as expected then there will be no delay to the next cruise. Sad day for family, crew and passengers.
Rare MicCanberra Posted February 10, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2017 She will make it to Sydney on time. Shame that they are missing the sounds but it is understandable considering the circumstances. :( Thoughts go out to the crewman's family and colleagues. Rare erewhon Posted February 10, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 10, 2017 Maybe they will travel via Cook Strait to Sydney, instead of the southern route.
Te Aroha Posted February 10, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2017 Just heard it is now 6 pm to leave.
The_Big_M Posted February 10, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2017 Unless delayed further, still able to make it on time - though means going directly to Sydney.
Rare MicCanberra Posted February 10, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2017 Unless delayed further, still able to make it on time - though means going directly to Sydney. They are missing the Sounds so should be no issues getting there on time. (weather permitting).

Rare MicCanberra Posted February 10, 2017 #11 Share Posted February 10, 2017 I think even if they left at midnight they could make it easily.
The_Big_M Posted February 10, 2017 #12 Share Posted February 10, 2017 I don't think so. Probably if they went at full speed - but then that wouldn't be 'easily.'
Brisbane41 Posted February 10, 2017 #13 Share Posted February 10, 2017 I do not believe the ship will get to Sydney in time for the next cruise. My bets are on a late arrival.

Same here...Its 2 days across the Tasman , and she has to cruise almost the full length of South Island as well.
Rare MicCanberra Posted February 10, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 10, 2017 I still think they will get there on Monday. I have confidence the weather won't intervene.

rkmw Posted February 10, 2017 #18 Share Posted February 10, 2017 this is an update from a passengers posting on facebook Re: The Emerald Princess. The captain has said we will get under way around 9.20pm (NZ time) but arrival time will depend on the weather. He will be running the ship hard to try and not cause too much inconvenience. The captain has set up a fund for the family of the poor crewman's family we can contribute to. That's a brilliant gesture.
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted February 10, 2017 #19 Share Posted February 10, 2017 She's left Port Chalmers and is heading south. She's running at 22.6 knots which is probably full speed.
