Full price for a 9 month baby!!!

Recommended Posts

So it was a comment based on paying full price?

But the OP realized fairly quickly that they were wrong and they aren't paying full price. So why the thought process?

Because I disagreed with the people earlier in the post saying that it was unjust of them to ask for a full fare.

If the child is being breast or bottle fed I think it's insane they are charging you full price. I would definitely query the other cruise lines. Best of luck to you and the family, OP, and have a fine cruise somewhere.

This is based on 2 adults and 1 child. £1449 each! Making £3497 for us to go. This is before any drinks package and tips etc. This is for the independence of the seas on the 16th September from Southampton in an interior stateroom

I've just priced this and the price for 2 is £2898 and as you say for 3 its £3497 meaning the third person is actually £599. I think you've got your figures mixed up.

Navigator leaving a day earlier to the med is nearly a thousand pounds cheaper!

Sorry, hadn't read the full thread and seen this has already been pointed out.

The one thing no one has mentioned regarding that cost is the possibility the cruise may be ruined for other passengers by the young ones presence. For example. If I was to be kept up at night by a screaming child I would make a complaint. The complaint would lead to a reduction in the next cruise fare. Let's say 20%. So although a child may not eat as much etc it can still cost the company revenue. Like an insurance policy.

Are you serious with this post?

If complaining will get me a reduced fare on my next cruise, maybe I should have complained about the kids in the next cabin smoking weed and throwing up all over the balcony next door to our cabin, or the guy below us that insisted on smoking his cigar every morning while I had to keep my doors shut to avoid the stench. Both equally annoying as a screaming child, but none of those experiences ruined my cruise.

Yes you should have. Why should anyone pay the huge fairs just to not enjoy it because of other people's inconsideration.

How can anyone get through life complaining to someone about every single thing that annoys them? Life is full of annoying people and things. You just have to deal with it to get through the day. Screaming babies, people who talk too loud, smokers on the balcony, people who cut in line, people who wear clothes you don't like, people hogging the chairs. Something needs to be a bit more serious to make it worth anyone's while for filing an official complaint. Like, your cabin flooded, you've got unexplained charges on your account, etc. You're not entitled to compensation just because something in the universe upset you for a few minutes. Is this what' going on at those long lines I've seen at customer service? I pity the employees listening to such pettiness.

Each to their own. I fail to see how it is petty. Cruising to some people costs a very large percentage of their wages and therefore you have the right to expect a good experience. I have never had to complain in my 9 sailings with Royal Caribbean but wouldn't hesitate to do so if something was unsatisfactory.

At the end of the day you are entitled to your own opinion but just because you think something is acceptable to you, it does not mean everyone else is required to have the same rationale.

disregarding the truth( the OP hast realized they were misunderstanding the price their child was being charged) it is industry standard to charge FOR EVERY SOUL ON BOARD regardless of age.

the person occupying berth number 3 in a stateroom will pay the same whether they are 9 months old, 9 years old or 90 years old.

to even further expand on the concept of babies do not spend money on board: most parents also will not spend as much, as they will not be out all night drinking or playing Bingo or indulging in spa treatments as they are busy taking care of Junior. the total revenue for the cabin is lower than average spending on board

We just paid the fee for our son that will be 11 months old on his first sailing. I actually don't mind paying it because it limits the amount of small children / babies on the ship. Can you imagine how many crying infants would be on the ships if they were free?

RIGHT!!!

I am in the process of doing my income taxes. I called the IRS and asked if I could take a lesser deduction for my infant child. Unfortunately, they disagreed with my reasoning and insisted I take a full deduction just as if they were a grown adult.

And why would you want to take a lesser deduction for your kid? You don't have to take any deduction if you don't want to. The Feds would appreciate the extra money you send them.;)

I get that she would take up a spot on a life boat but paying the same as an adult I I think is ridiculous

The ONLY revenue the cruise line gets for a 9-month old is the cruise fare. No drinks, no specialty restaurants, no shopping, etc. As such, in order for the cruise line to compensate for that, they charge the same fare as an adult. They can't let the kid in at a discount and rationalize the loss of other revenue that a paying adult would generate outside of the cruise fare - in this scenario they're losing twice.

We can argue all day if it's "fair" or "right", but the bottom line is RC would rather have an adult onboard than your baby, and that's not going to change.

Nothing personal, I'm sure your baby is delightful. They just make more from onboard spending from an adult, so they have no interest in encouraging people to bring babies.

I was just being sarcastic, Ocean Boy. The same folks who want reduced rates for their kids are all for full rates for their deductions.

This.

They offer kids sail free promotions, but unless you book one of those, you'll have to pay. It doesn't really matter what activities they participate in or how much they eat. Just like how solo cruisers have to pay double occupancy for most rooms unless there are solo cabins available.

Alas, sometimes you get what you pay for.

If 3rd and 4th deals is what appeals to someone and they find it and are happy with it why would you feel your little dig is appropriate?

I love NCL. Glad to have them.

Our kids are in their 20's now so I don't have to deal with this issue anymore. However I agree it's too much money. for a child under 1 year. You can get the room at double occupancy so stating the child is taking a paying adult spot is just not true. Once they are old enough for kids club you definitely get your money's worth. Until then I would look at specials for 3rd/4th in the room for free( know the average rate so you know if this is really a "sale") or choose an off season great priced cruise where the overall price is still good.

Kids/Toddlers, I could see that, but 9 months old... I doubt that.

dp

This is exactly right. We just got off the Freedom with our 8 month old. I can tell you the dining staff did zero for the baby the whole cruise and the only thing he ate all cruise from Royal was crackers and a few pieces of dinner rolls. In addition we had connecting staterooms and one of them was for the kids. We told the cabin Steward to skip morning service in their room just in case the baby was napping. Throw in the fact we had our own crib sheets etc etc. there's no doubt the baby was very little work for any staff.

I think at a minimum tips should be reduced for babies under 1. I get that a baby takes up a "guest spot" and the ship doesn't make money from amenities like the casino etc and can somewhat understand charging them almost full price. But the gratuities should be waived or at least reduced for them.
