Cheers tipping question

I am getting the Cheers package on our next cruise. If I go to one of the bars near the pool and keep using the same bartender and give him a tip for each drink, hopefully the pours will be a little heavier during the cruise.

My question is, if I am out on deck and a waiter comes by to take my order and I tip them, does he split it with the bartenders or does he keep it for themselves. I want the bartender to know that I am continuously tipping.

The waiters do not share their cash tips. Whoever you tip in cash keeps it. If you add your tip to the receipt it will be split with all bartenders or waiters,. However you do not always get a receipt with Cheers

they are supposed to share so its just a matter of integrity. If they are supposed to share it on the receipt, then they are supposed to share it in cash too.

so unless we hear from a bartender on a carnival ship, we wont fully know this answer

It good to tip your waiter also, that way you know they will make sure that you are not going "dry" lol. Sometimes maybe even they tell the bartender to make that drinkx just a bit better than normal, who knows. But I will usually tip an extra dollar cash, and find that I get excellent service and very good drinks too.

not according to the bartenders and bar waiters I talked to, they keep cash tips. Bobbie, no reason to bring a load of ones, the casino and guest services always have ones. We tipped a dollar a drink and believe me they did notice us and were very appreciative.

I am going on a four day cruise. I plan on taking one dollar bills. How many would you take? I am getting cheers.

DH and I always get Cheers and tip $1-2 every drink. We usually drink around 10 rounds each day, so we figure 10 $1's a day at least. Just think of it that way. BTW, we always get served before others at bars, have better pour and never look for a drink server, they look for us, especially in the dining room where it could be a long wait for a drink and on deck during the day. That's why we always tip extra.

What I've heard from people who have specifically asked this question of bartenders on ships (pooled tips vs what they can keep) is that the 15% gratuity added to your Cheers program purchase up front is pooled. Any tips given on a an order you sign for are kept by the bartender who waits on you - this goes for cash tips or anything extra you write on the slip. We'll definitely find a favorite bartender at the bars we frequent and write a tip onto each Cheers slip.

The wait staff and bartenders share "whose is tipping" information and they know by your drink orders.

By "pooled" that means BETWEEN the drink waiters and the bartenders since it takes 2 to make your drinks. On land, the drink waiters "tip out" bartenders who prepare the drinks they serve. By pooling the tips between the wait team and bartenders, they don't need to keep track for who poured for who. Notice when you leave cash on a bar, the bartenders sweep it into a container? That is "pooling" so every bartender is motivated to pour you another. Without pooling, bartenders would be prone to prioritize certain customers or waiters. With pooling, every drink person is motivated to sell another since they share in the gratuities. That is also why Lido waiters can roam and not be assigned to a specific zone. They aren't stealing from another waiter like at a sit down restaurant.

One our last cruise I asked a waiter is cash vs. putting a tip on the ticket made any difference and he said it was exactly the same. We did have Cheers. And tipping, over and above the initial amount, did seem to help with getting quick service.

This is what I have been told by barservers as well. I have asked several bar servers on more than one cruise and they have all told me that if I add it to the receipt it is given to them. I have been told the same thing about room service as well, by the way.

I have Cheers for my Vista 8 day next week. I went to the bank and got $200 singles. I get two drinks per visit to the bar (DW and I) and tip $2 per. I still know I'll come out at least $500 ahead based on the amount and kinds of drinks we will have all week.

I have been on thirty five plus cruises since 1983 and only saw the bar staff share cash tips on my Allure Of The Seas cruises in November 2016 and January 2017 sailings. The bar staff at the Solarium Bar put all cash tips in a large cup which was located behind the bar. They made a great Bloody Mary and a great Vodka and Cranberry.

I have only gotten a drink package on a RC cruise. With that drink package, you paid the normal "per day" price and then you were also charged an 18% gratuity per drink that hot added to your sail card. Is that not the case with cheers? You only pay the 15% of the total package?

YES the auto-grat is added at the time of the package purchase at Carnival's 15% rate.

HERE"S how I have heard the tips to bar staff are distributed ....

On Cheers the total package tip goes to a general tip pool shared by the entire bar staff ship-wide. This gets rolled into the paycheck so the crews' native countries can assess any tax that they might have a legal right to.

On pay as you go the auto-grat tips go to a tip pool that is only for that particular bar and shift, and shared by that bar staff only. Written-in additional tips are the same. Again this is paid out as part of the paycheck.

Cash tips are at the discretion of the person receiving the tip to share, so a wandering waiter may or may not pass some on to the bartender fulfilling the order, and bartenders on a shift may or may not share among themselves.

We had a lot of drinks at the Alcomy Bar on the Glory. Richard and Miro received much extra monies from us because they were great and made the cruise so much fun. Most nights they had an extra $10 or so for their great work.
