What will it take to make Carnival understand...

What? I was agreeing with you in regards to what she wrote in her first post which has since been edited that you quoted.

Upthread I was asked why I turned a discussion about the adult only pools to a conversation about more adult space. And I pointed out to that poster that the original post WAS regarding adult space overall and said nothing specifically about just the adult pool. All I was doing was agreeing with you. Forget it.

I don't think the person you are responding to meant to insult you. You said "She did in fact go into detail about more adult areas" which is the question the PP wanted answered and does make it sound like the OP did come back and answer the question. The OP did say she wanted more adult areas but never did enumerate what extra areas she was looking for.

Until Carnival reverses the aft pool decision, we'll be done booking cruises. We leave Saturday on the Glory...which we booked prior to the change. We would never have booked without an adult only pool.

Does Carnival really think parents want to drop off their own kids in Camp Carnival just to go hang out with other peoples's kids?? Even Disney knows enough to offer an adults only pool on their ships!

Let me start by saying that I don't have kids. We do cruise a lot and have been on many different cruise lines. We have sailed Disney (2 x) as well. We KNOW that if we are going on a Carnival Cruise, that there will be many more children than any other line. (DCL aside).

We've cruised Carnival for the "party" atmosphere, and when we cruise with families and friends with kids. We EXPECT kids to be everywhere on a Carnival cruise. Is it our favorite, not in the least, but we do know what to expect.

When we want to go with fewer kids, more adult space, more peaceful atmosphere, we book Princess or Celebrity. I don't understand the people asking for peaceful adult-only laden ships when it's a cruise built for families, parties and lots of energy.

I guess my question is...to those wanting more adult-only areas....why do you choose Carnival, knowing what the clientele and atmosphere will be like? This isn't a snotty or sarcastic question, I'm serious in asking.

I don't agree with unruly kids, kids running wild, cannonballs into the pools.....and therefore into my drink! But I do "expect" it when I cruise Carnival because that's the clientele that it attracts. Great for families with kids! Not great for peace, quiet and serenity.

I like to book Carnival for the same reasons you do. Anyone with half a brain knows there will be families. What people are failing to comprehend about all this is that we aren't against kids. Most of us have our own. What we did like was the one pool where there weren't any. Was it totally serene and peaceful? Nope. Could there be obnoxious adults? Sure. But what it didn't have was the natural "excitement" of children. Not all kids are bad and no one on here has ever said that at least as far as I can see.

I'm guessing that is the reason for the aft pool change as well. Here's what I see happens on cruises. Children want to go to the pool. So the parents take them to the one pool they can use. They want to watch their kids, but every lounger (and sometimes the pool) is packed with mostly adults (or towels saving them). So their option is let the kids play on their own, or have children who can't go in the pool. Then they go to the back pool, which is basically pretty empty most of the time. Kids see this nice pool with no one in it and loungers for the parents to use...but they can't use it. So the parents complain naturally, and Carnival sees and hears it.

The pool in the aft area that was adult only often did not have a lot of adults in it, but the hot tubs usually did. Finding a lounger in that area has often been difficult as many adults preferred loungers in this quieter area.

I expect kids to be pretty much everywhere on a Carnival ship, EXCEPT the adult only aft hot tubs and pools. Carnival took that away without giving us adults an alternative setting on the Conquest April 1 - 9 sailing. At some point, when a Serenity deck is added with adult only hot tubs, it will equal out.

But to take away adult hot tubs without a replacement is a loss in my book.

So, I must have missed something...when Carnival made this drastic change, how many ships was the change implemented on? I thought I saw something on FB or maybe even here, there were like 6-7 ships that had aft adult only pools that were changed to kid friendly....were there more?

No one said anything about the hot tubs not being adult only and the two ships I have been on had both adult only hot tubs and family friendly hot tubs (even on the main pool deck).

It's limited to Conquest class ships. Unfortunately not all of those ships have Serenity yet (such as Conquest).

I see....and on those ships....the area around where the once adult only pools are, is that an adult only area? Would seem odd to have an adult only pool, in a area of the ship thats not limited to just adults. I've been on Liberty, but don't recall.

Oh really? [emoji39]

Yes, really. Now I know that 3 ships haven't a separate Serenity area. I've looked at Glory's deck plans and it appears that the entrance to the waterslides is next to the Serenity area so I'm not sure how serene it will really be (if we even make it there this cruise, we didn't use Serenity on Fascination).

Sounds about right. It was up there before but with only the one slide there wasn't a lot of noise. I like to go all the way forward on Serenity and that is as far away from the action as you can get. However if you're trying to relax on the sides, then, yeah. I can see where it might not be so quiet.

I believe Victory and Splendor both have Serenity areas, but no adults only pool in them. Serenity does not equal adult pool. Normally just loungers and a hot tub or two. I think some people think (not you, in general) that if there is a Serenity deck, that it automatically has a pool which isn't the case and that is why so many are upset. If all ships that had Serenity areas contained a pool within them, then this would be an non issue.

Very true, Serenity on Fascination was sans pool. Personally if we have Serenity where we can go to "get away from it all" we're good. So in the Conquest class the Conquest is the only one without a Serenity area? And they are planning to install that during the next dry dock?

Yes the Conquest is the only one right now and it is supposed to be getting one in dry dock. Supposedly with a pool.

I for one am extremely disappointed with this change. And it's not because I don't like children. I have 4 kids, 10 grandkids, but I typically go on a cruise for adult time and conversation. One of the places I have been able to enjoy that is in and around the adult only aft pool areas. I just completed my 11th cruise in February, this time on the Freedom. At that time the aft area was still adult only. It was the 3rd time for me on this ship, and quite honestly, one of the main reasons for my choice of this ship is because it did offer the adult only pool area. I have been on ships that both pools were open to families and you couldn't get near the pool, much less the hot tubs because they were dominated by the kids. Kids playing marco polo in the hot tub, and jumping in and swimming like it's a pool is not acceptable to me. And maybe I do want to get in the pool with a drink, and adults, and share adult conversation without continually being splashed in the face.

Just my opinion, and I hope someone from Carnival really does see this thread (not that it will make a difference).

We got off of the Conquest yesterday. I am single so I traveled as the sole adult with my 2 children (4 and 11). We spent time in the aft pool, mostly bc it was easier for me to watch both kids. The midship pool was so loud and crowded and there was rarely any space for me to sit near the pool to watch my children....plus there were so many older children playing too rough for me to allow my 4 yo in there with them. With all of that commotion, I just didn't find it safe to try to watch a younger child and an older child (who want to be doing 2 separate things in 2 separate areas). I preferred to take them to the less crowded aft pool where I could more easily keep an eye on both of them and could hear myself think. There were many kids in the aft pool and hot tubs during this cruise, at least during the times that we were there. But as has been previously stated, Carnival markets itself to families and offers a great experience for young children and their parents. I choose NCL, Carnival and Disney because of that.

I fully expect that when my kids are entertained by the kids club, I am not going to be able to escape other people's children on these lines. My parents recently offered to keep my children so that I can go on a vacation without my kids for once and enjoy some adult time. I haven't chosen a cruise yet but I am deciding between Celebrity and Crystal. There is no way that I would choose Carnival, NCL, etc if I am looking for time away from kiddos. It would certainly be nice if all Carnival ships had an adult only pool but given the "fun ship" concept, price point, advertising of all the activities for kids, etc there are bound to be young children everywhere. So for some real serenity, I will personally cruise other lines when I am looking for a vacation where I will not be surrounded by children.

I actually found that this smaller and older Carnival ship catered more to my children and their interests than the newer NCL megaships that we've been on. They definitely seem to be going after the family niche and after our first Carnival experience last week, they've been successful in getting my return business. However, if I were a long time Carnival loyal cruiser without children who had witnessed these changes firsthand, I most likely would be jumping ship to a different cruiseline who could better meet my needs. There is a line for everyone and I will remain loyal to none of them, as I choose my vacations based upon who my travelling companions are for that particular trip and what we are looking for at that time. To each their own though (I can understand feeling comfortable with a particular line and not wanting to leave if you don't have to). Happy cruising!

Okay...adults already have:

Every Bar

Club

Casino

Serenity Area

Adult Comedy

Cloud9 Spa.

What else, besides a pool, do you want? Seriously...what else?

Yes pools for adults only.

Bars? No Thanks, I don't drink.

Casino? No Thanks, I don't gamble and too much smoke odor.

Adult comedy? Clubs? It's only at night.

Spa? It's indoors.

That leaves small Serenity areas and adult pools to enjoy during the day.

We are in the same boat. Ha-ha! But with one huge difference. We are the lucky ones to be going on the Conquest on Saturday. So now with no adult pool and no Serenity area that leaves us with __________ to enjoy during the day.
