What will it take to make Carnival understand...

Carnival cruisers who want a bunch of adult-only space will have to resign themselves that there are some areas but not enough to your liking. Perhaps you've outgrown Carnival. I know we've outgrown strictly going to Disney.

To be fair, folks who want a stronger commitment to adult only areas would do well to check into Disney. You pay for it, but a better experience warrants paying more.

Except not.

Children are perched on every bar stool except the dance club in the evening.

They are running through the casino and I have pictures of strollers on the Dream parked between adults playing slots

Besides someone asking weekly on John's page for an exception to bring their snowflake on Serenity.

There are children at the adult show all the time and usually results in offended parents complaining/

Never seen a parent get away with keeping an underage child in the rated R comedy shows. The host usually hammers that over and over again. I'm surprised. Strollers in the casino and kids in the serenity is a bit much, but I don't hang out in either of those places. Yes that would get on my nerves. As far as kids at the bar, I don't really see a problem with it. We have brought ours in Red Frog during the day - usually there's no crowd and they are playing foosball or listening to the music. Never seen a bar where every stool was taken up by kids.

I want our aft pools returned to adult areas. I want Carnival to enforce their rules and keep kids out of where it is adult only areas. I want parents to keep their kids under control so other guest can enjoy their cruise without kids being a pain in the a&& all the time.

Yes I have 2 sons both have cruised as kids and adults. They have committed that if they acted like some these kids do they would have been grounded.

Just because adults are on vacation and bring their children with them does not give them the right to turn these kids loose on the rest of the guest without monitoring their behavior.

I agree change the aft pools back to adults only. And then be sure to tell all the adults to use them, because I think the under utilization is what triggered the change. That will also solve people complaining about kids splashing since all adults will be in the aft pools on the handful of ships that had them.

As far as bad behavior, that's up to the individual. I see adults clearly feeling as if they are on vacation and can let loose just as much as kids. Rude obnoxious misbehavior is not, by far, limited to just kids. And I don't care whose paying, nobody has a right to be that way. I can speak to a child and tell them politely to stop. Try that with some adult usually full of whatever they like to drink to maximize their cheers and see what you get back.

I'm guessing that is the reason for the aft pool change as well. Here's what I see happens on cruises. Children want to go to the pool. So the parents take them to the one pool they can use. They want to watch their kids, but every lounger (and sometimes the pool) is packed with mostly adults (or towels saving them). So their option is let the kids play on their own, or have children who can't go in the pool. Then they go to the back pool, which is basically pretty empty most of the time. Kids see this nice pool with no one in it and loungers for the parents to use...but they can't use it. So the parents complain naturally, and Carnival sees and hears it.

And it would be nice if Carnival and adults would police themselves as adults can be as unruly and as noisy and as disruptive as kids. And "adults" should be mature enough to understand that their "negative actions" impact those around them. Their "brains" should be fully developed and extremely capable of deciphering good behavior from bad....but sadly they "choose" to treat a ship as their own personal playground without any conscious thought about anyone else's sensibilities.

I wish people would give the "kids and their parents don't give a darn" a rest....cause, truth be told, they are only acting like the hundreds of childish adults (without children) who they witness on every cruise. Just read the threads here at CC and you'll find multitudes of examples of "bad" behavior demonstrated by the adults in the crowd.

Perhaps those unruly and disruptive adults were "parented" by those who allow their children to be unruly and disruptive - and they never learned to be otherwise.

Also those who complain about the adults being bad, or drunk, or disruptive - have you given any thought to the fact that these might be the people who have been hanging out at the adult only pools - away from you and your children? Now that Carnival has taken that option away, those people are going to be foist on the rest of you - along with their "adult" behavior - drinking, language etc.

I'm not one to throw away money either, but for some people they are going to sacrifice $50 per person to move from a vacation where something they put a strong preference on was removed. So a couple might say "For $100, we can bail and go do something else".

Heck, there's another thread about price drops and people bragging that they won't call if the price drop is under $50 or $100. Just throwing money away. So, yes, I have no probably believing that people will lose $50 to $100. Just not you. Or me.

And some people don't sit around waiting for $50 deposit sales - they just book! My deposit for our September 2017 cruise was $500. I'm not about to walk away from $500 - however, my next cruise is NOT on a Carnival Corporation product, and with the possible exception of the Pride in non-school months, I probably won't be booking many in the future.

We do have an aft wrap. It is Sept - when most kids are back in school & it's Canada, which tends to attract an older crowd. The cruise is on the Sunshine - which does have a pool in the Serenity area. We aren't pinching pennies to cruise. We spend money over and above a premium balcony cabin. We buy photos, We buy drinks, but not the Cheers package. We get a bottle of wine with dinner each night. We eat in the specialty restaurants - usually more than once. We often get an excursion or 2 through the ship. We're the kind of people I assumed (and I know that gets one in trouble) Carnival would welcome - at least enough to make some accommodations.

I have no delusions that Carnival will miss our business - none whatsoever. But if I'm spending money, there are other lines who will provide the experience I'd like, and since Carnival seems no longer interested in doing that, I'll move on. It's not just the adult pools but an accumulative effect. No hard feelings on my part either. As I said, we like the Pride, so Carnival will probably still get some business - just not as much - and for sure only during the off season!

Celebrity has a wonderful pool with two hottubs that is in an adult only area. But there are chair hogs taking about every chair; I had a senior lady scream at me for moving her magazine from a chair which I had watched for about 20 minutes and the folks around it said they never saw anyone there. She fussed for about 5 minutes moved it to another chair and walked off without ever sitting down. After she left the area was serene again.

Your balcony neighbors can be very loud.

Adults can be unruly too, there are no guarantees.

Also, is the adults comedy show 18+ as a rule? I've never seen anyone at the doors checking. I thought it was just a notation that it was going to be a bit more raunchy langauge, an advisory so you were not surprised. If it's just an advisory and people bring their kids, they should not be shocked by it. I'm sure for many teenagers the language isn't anything they aren't used to in school these days.

At the few adult shows I've been to, the CD who whoever is the Emcee does his or her best to verify that no one under 18 is in the room. On the Valor I saw him tell several kids who were still in the audience to leave and come back for the family show so at that is one Carnival rule that is enforced.

How did we go from simply having returned the single pool that was already adult only to "a bunch of adult-only space"? Really??

I appreciate you always trying to check people's posts, but I was basing my response on what the OP said in totality. Not just the aft pool as that isn't the only thing she mentioned. Matter of fact, the aft pool specifically wasn't mentioned at all. So that's how.

I'd be curious to see what Disney prices do in a few years when they introduce 2 new ships - a 50% increase in inventory will definitely test whether or not the additional demand is really there.

Carnival has already made it clear that almost every aspect of a Carnival Cruise is kid friendly. They have taken care of the adult based niche with Princess and the older adults with Holland. Given that they also own these other lines they are guaranteeing to gain the market of adult only cruisers. Even as a mom to a 8 & 9 year old, I do enjoy adult only areas, especially pools. Given this, my husband and I are looking into RCI for the future. I don't think we'll abandon Carnival all together because I'm sure our children will love their kids program (which I heard is a cut above everyone else's besides Disney, but who really knows). Perhaps Princess or Celebrity will be better for the OP? There is a cruise out there to suit everyone!

Then they really have not looked into what Disney offers : a pool, lounges, clubs and restaurants that are 100% child-free.

Can't you get that on other lines for less money without a ton of kids and Mickey and his posse all over? I have kids and don't have an interest in Disney cruises.

Okay...adults already have:

Every Bar

Club

Casino

Serenity Area

Adult Comedy

Cloud9 Spa.

What else, besides a pool, do you want? Seriously...what else?

Slides and entrances to the slides the next to the "adult serenity" area.

Many kids in near and around or running through the bars.

I just want parents to watch little Johnny and Susie.

In your original post, you wrote "we need more adult areas".

In my response, I asked "What else, besides a pool, do you want? Seriously...what else?"

So I will ask again...what else, besides a pool, do you want? Your reply above doesn't answer that question. You talk about a pool, enforcing rules, etc. But what more adult areas do you want? Serious question....not trying to bust anyones chops. Just wondering what other (besides a pool) adult-only activities do you want?

Thank you for posting the original first statement. She did in fact go into detail about more adult areas.

On Disney that's a good chunk of the extra charges. You are paying for Mickey and his posse. Not something I'm interested in even if they do have some nice adult areas. So do other lines and I don't have to deal with Mickey [emoji16]

I think a lot of people have the wrong idea about Disney. We sure did. Based on our experience, it's a better cruise line with regard to many of the things that many people care about than the other cruise lines we've cruised - if you want to go where they're going.

Anyone who wants to get away from kids isn't going to cruise on Disney.
Their loss. At least on the Disney Magic, they do an excellent job keeping the children so enamored with the children's activities that you'd think there were practically no children on board. That's what adults pay extra for.

... to draw the children away from where the adults hang out.

Precisely. The topic of this thread. And so far no one has convinced me that anyone does this better than Disney at that price point.

Not based on my experience, but I'm sure there are some cruise lines much more expensive than Disney that offer that. Edited by bUU

This is simply marketing. If mom and dad go on an adult-centric cruise, 2 tickets are sold for 1 room. Two people buy drinks and excursions. If mom and dad take their 2 kids on a family-centric cruise, 4 tickets are sold for the same single cabin. Two adults buy alcoholic drinks while the 2 kids get non-alcoholic drinks, drop some money in the arcade, and load up at Cherry-On-Top. Then you double the excursions. Leaving the kids at home and you are more likely to take a shorter cruise. Take them along and you can stay for longer periods.

It's simple economics. Parents who bring kids will spend more $.

What? I was agreeing with you in regards to what she wrote in her first post which has since been edited that you quoted.

Upthread I was asked why I turned a discussion about the adult only pools to a conversation about more adult space. And I pointed out to that poster that the original post WAS regarding adult space overall and said nothing specifically about just the adult pool. All I was doing was agreeing with you. Forget it.
