Alaska

Perhaps the OP is thinking of booking one of the two very early season Alaska sailings in 2018: April 27 from Los Angeles or April 28 from Seattle. The former will call in Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay and Ketchican May 2 through 5 respectively, the latter in the same sequence two days earlier starting April 30.

You can be assured that sufficient infrastructure will be operating to accommodate cruise passengers by those dates else those cruises would not have been scheduled. Juneau is inhabited year-round so there will be plenty of signs of life there. The other two cities do rely on seasonal workers from elsewhere which may or may not be in place that early. You can research what "stuff" you plan to do and inquire directly of them what their usual opening date is each year. As for Glacier National Park and other natural attractions, it is probably up to the Weather Gods how much access is available in early May.

I was in Juneau on May 11th. Everything seemed to be open. There were hardly any tourists. It was wonderful. We walked through a little park, complete with homeless people. It felt just like our home in Auburn, California. We went to a local restaurant and had oyster shooters and Alaskan beer. It was nice enough that we could sit outside and watch eagles fly by. Go early and enjoy yourself.

Several years ago we were on the first north bound AK cruise and then went to Denali and Fairbanks in a rental car. Particularly at Denali but also other areas some of the venues were not open yet as the tourist season had not started. It was nice though without the tourists and there were enough places open to get what we wanted like food etc.

It appears the OP wants to do a south bound cruise with time first in AK. Just be aware that some restaurants etc will not be open yet but then the crowds will not be there either.
