Rare CineGraphic Posted June 6, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 6, 2017 I just got off of the phone with Princess after two friends I had referred, booked a cruise, but their status was not updated from "booking pending" to "sailing pending". I was told that since they payed a reduced rate from a land-based casino offer, that the sailing was not eligible, and that I would get the refer-a-friend bonus when they book another cruise. The agent started reading to me over the phone all sorts of terms & conditions that are not part of the terms listed on the website. I've asked the agent to notify management and their legal department that these terms need to be online for users to see, instead of us having to find out after the fact. I understand that rules are rules, but publish them to keep things "Kosher".

Rare CineGraphic Posted June 6, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted June 6, 2017 It may show under the terms/restrictions of the casino rate.Did you look there? The discount voucher was issued by a land-based casino, what would their terms have to do my friend referral? My complaint to Princess was that nowhere does it say that discounted fares, other than friends & family, travel industry partner, or interline are not eligible. A land-based casino is not in the travel industry. Here are the entire terms as published online.

Except you never said it was a land based casino. Just a guess but maybe interline fare/rate rules may apply here. If it's an interline rate there are usually no benefits at all including additional discounts.

cherylandtk Posted June 6, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 6, 2017 Well, despite being a land based casino, it still falls under the travel partner exclusion. Yes, they are not in the travel industry themselves, but they do offer travel promotions to their gambling customers...which makes them a travel partner. (Just about any promotion which is not available to the general public falls under this exclusion.) Sorry.
Rare Cruise Raider Posted June 6, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 6, 2017 Not to argue this but will give you my take on it as we've referred a lot of friends to Princess and also taken advantage of a lot of casino offers with different cruise lines. Only one party is allowed to collect the referral rate from Princess and only for passengers that have never 'referred' for a cruise on Princess before. If you refer someone that has has even been listed as being referred to Princess previously, you will not be the one to get the credit. I may be totally off base but I really do believe that the casino is the referring party in this case.

Princess acknowledges that I am indeed the original referrer, but they are claiming that this discounted fare doesn't qualify. If and when they book another cruise, I will get the refer-a-friend bonus.

Rare CineGraphic Posted June 7, 2017 Author #14 Share Posted June 7, 2017 I see ... but by the time they book another cruise, won't they already have been a past cruiser?? I understand your logic, but according to Princess, my friends have until 2019 to book a qualifying cruise, and Princess will pay the referral bonus. As far as Princess is concerned, my referral is legit.
gagenie Posted June 7, 2017 #15 Share Posted June 7, 2017 That made me look at my referrals, I have several families members I have referred but some are saying pending booking (they already booked) and some say pending sailing so I don't get is their all going on the same cruise to AK. Guess I need to call Princess and ask what's up with that. I have 10 family members going on the same AK cruise in July hmmmm

Ellipooh Posted June 7, 2017 #17 Share Posted June 7, 2017 I called Princess to book myself, DH, and his parents in two suites for a 2018 Alaska cruise. The rep and I went round-and-round about how the parents had never been on Princess before, and we got them all set up with Circle numbers etc. She never mentioned the Referral program, and when i discovered it the next day and called back, the new rep said she couldnt help because it had to be (a) done at time of booking, and (b) online. She said her computer didnt even offer it as an option for her. So fooey. I know it's only $25, but DFIL would have been tickled to find he had some OBC on his first cruise.
