Water

You really don't need to do "research" to read the terms and conditions.

There are links to the terms and conditions on the bottom of every promo page on NCL.com.

No bottled water with UBP. No carry-on water permitted. "Expensive" is relative.

Hooray, another water thread...let the games begin.

You are correct that bottled water isn't included on the UBP (although water is available from many places).

You are correct that you can't carry water onboard.

As for it being very expensive to order for your room, that is slightly less clear. It certainly isn't cheap, but the price has been reduced lately. If you order online then the prices are not all that bad. Per litre it works out at a fairly similar price to what I am used to paying in port if you stop at a shop and buy a couple of half litre bottles.

I am a total bottled water person at home, never tap water for me at home, but I have no problem drinking the water provided for free at dinner and at the buffet on the cruise. It's tastes good to me on ice and I have never had a problem with it. From what I understand they reduced the price of bottled water packages from excessive down to expensive. I could be wrong about that.

To be honest, I don't think a new thread on water has come for maybe two weeks. Pretty good actually.

And, one would assume if you can get a martini included in your drink package, that a bottle of water would also be included. Wrong of course, but not an unreasonable assumption.

Water onboard is free.. just not in a bottle.

I don't really understand why people do assume that bottled water would be included.

The basis for the UBP is that you get drinks given to you to consume straight away. Wine is available, but not in the a bottle. Spirits are available, but not in a bottle. In fact, the only drinks which are given in a bottle are beers etc, and that is only because that is the only way that most of them come. Even then the bottle is supposed to be opened.

As you say, water is available, just not in a bottle. This is absolutely what I would expect from the UBP.

The only reason I can think of for assuming that bottles of water would be available is because apparently some other lines offer it. Plenty of other places, in my experience, don't include unopened bottles in drinks packages. In fact, I can't think of a single place where I have personally seen packages including things like unopened bottles. I'm by no means saying that there aren't such places, but I haven't come across them.

Guess I didn't research enough before booking ! No bottled water with UBP? And you can not carry water on board? And it's very expensive to order it for the cabin!

The water in the bars restaurants and at the buffet is perfect. Just take an empty water bottle and fill it up at any of those locations. It is not a big deal.

Because bottled water was included in the package on our last cruise..(..first time doing a beverage package...) I guess I just assumed....my bad. I have no problems with tap water...husband insists on bottles. No worries, we will order some!

To be clear, I wasn't criticising you for your assumption. I was just commenting that I personally am not surprised that it isn't included.

It just seems odd to me. You can go to a bar and get a beer, and you can go to a bar and get some water. You can't get either in an unopened bottle to take away with you for later. I don't recall ever seeing a thread on there from people who are surprised that they open the beer bottle for you, or won't just hand over a bottle of wine, but for some reason water seems to cause endless debates.

False.

I regularly (as in every sailing I've been on since the UBP was introduced) get unopened bottles of beer to take back to my stateroom. All you have to do is ask -- "do you mind not opening that... I'm walking back to my room, thanks!"

Yes, this is true (and to be honest is probably the reason why people don't complain about it), but the rules are that they shouldn't, and quite a few bar staff won't do it. I generally only ask the staff that I know, as others are liable to refuse.

I suppose it does answer my question as to why people don't grumble about bottles of beer as much, but what about bottles of wine, cans of coke, even a bottle of whiskey? My point that the exclusion of bottles of water is in line with the overall policy still stands.

Water isn't included because water isn't included. Simple as that. It's not excluded because other things are excluded. And I've never read any policy that stated beer bottles had to be opened by the bartenders. Indeed, buckets of beer are served unopened.

But whatever.

I've also never read a policy saying that beer bottles (on the UBP, so buckets are irrelevant to the discussion) must be opened, but I have been told on a number of occasions that they should be served that way.

Anyway, as you say, whatever. I'm just making a fairly simple point that it doesn't seem at all odd to me that bottles of water are excluded from the UBP. The fact that many bar staff are willing to not open the beer bottle doesn't change that.

If you order a case of water, the price comes out about the same as buying the 1L bottles at a 7- 11 in Maine. If it helps you, think about this as a big, floating convenience store and not a cost co.

The only free bottled water (other than being in an Owner's Suite or Villa) is using a casino drinks card.
