gizmodog Posted June 28, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2017 We are scheduled to cruise the eclipse 14 day Caribbean Jan. 7 2018. We have done this cruise the last 3 years, St. Kitts/Nevis has always been on the itinerary as it was when we booked it last year, now as the cruise is coming closer I looked and it is not a stop any longer. Anybody know why? Sent from my iPad using Forums
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted June 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Just guessing without looking at your specific itinerary. Did Celebrity schedule an overnight in one of your ports? If so, they may have dropped one port to compensate. I would be like you and be sorry to lose St Kitts.

A year after we booked the cruise they dropped Dominica and added an overnight in Barbados. Kind of bummed as overnight in Barbados wasn'tvery interesting :)
OCruisers Posted June 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Seems this can and does happen from time to time. Just wondering ... are Celebrity ships still going to St. Kitts on other sailings?
Fouremco Posted June 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2017 We've done this cruise twice and are booked again for next March. Each time the 8-port itinerary has been slightly different. On the second cruise, they dropped Grenada and St. Thomas but added St. Kitts and a second day in Barbados. For next year, they've reverted to a single day in Barbados and have dropped St. Kitts while doubling up Curaçao and adding Bonaire. Personally, I'd prefer to visit 8 different ports and skip the overnights, but Celebrity seems to think they're popular.

Celebrity also saves a lot of money by doing an overnight. All that fuel from going to another port and dockage and port fees not spent adds up to a pretty penny I bet. CruisersTimesThree Posted June 29, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2017 We are booked on the 12 night Silhouette Caribbean cruise departing on 3/3/19 and as of now St Kitts is on the schedule, but so far out right now that it could be changed. I anticipate the overnight host island is making it attractive for Celebrity to keep passengers there for a two day period. TFLG Posted June 29, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 29, 2017 I like St Kitts, but I'd take an overnight in Curacao any day over St Kitts. I lot of us like the overnights, it give us a chance to experience the nightlife of the port. We did the 14 day in Nov and we overnighted in Aruba. Subtract the loss from casino revenue and shop revenue since both need to remain closed while the ship is in port.
chamima Posted June 29, 2017 #12 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Last year Antigua was dropped for the overnight and this year it's St. Kitts. We would prefer the extra island but, since this is the last year of the 14 day cruise, we'll take what we can get. :( Subtract the loss from casino revenue and shop revenue since both need to remain closed while the ship is in port. If I remember correctly there was a special arrangement made and all were open in the evening.

awhfy Posted June 29, 2017 #15 Share Posted June 29, 2017 We have an overnight in Curaçao this November. I'd rather an overnight in Aruba! Or go to St Kitts/Nevis instead of St Lucia. But I finally get to go to Bonaire, so all is good ! [emoji474] Sent from my iPad using Forums

In addition to caribill's comments, I'd point out that there was probably no fuel saving in overnighting in Barbados and skipping Grenada. Even though we didn't stop there, the route from Barbados to Aruba took us past Grenada anyway. Also, having to make a longer single leg from Barbados to Aruba, the overall ship's speed would have been higher than two shorter legs, thus burning more fuel. For the March 20 sailing last year, we visited both Antigua and St. Kitts.
