I don't even know what that is lol..is that like a money back guarantee

If you aren't having fun, let guest services know within 24 hours of sailing. You will receive 110% refund of the purchase price of your cruise. They will fly you home at the first foreign port of call at Carnival's expense. If you book with them again in the future, they will give you an on board credit ($100?). Obviously conditions apply.

Wow I had no idea that even existed. How much can go wrong within the first 24 hours though? Whenever ive had any issues they always seemed to happen towards the end of the cruise.

No. Any day on a cruise is better than any day not on a cruise.

Not me. I grew up in the woods and camping in the middle of a mosquito infested forest was worse than that. Plus a full refund for the cruise, future cruise credit in the amount of that cruise, plus $500 in cash. Sign me up!!!

Sorry, but I'm having a really hard time understanding this.

Would you or not?

First seems to say "No", but second reads to me as a "yes" with the "sign me up" statement. :)

That's the whole point of the guarantee. To give you warm fuzzies when booking but in reality there has to be a very small percentage of people decide within 24 hours of sailing.

Not me. At that specific time, that is where I choose to be. The ship is my happy place and I would rather be there than anywhere else. Even when I had food poisoning on the Conquest, I was glad I was there instead of at home because at home I couldn't sit on the toilet and lean over to the shower at the same time! Use your imagination on that last part 🤢.

You're a lot better than I. Took a 7 day noro cruise where we didn't stop at any ports and they cut it back to 5 days so they could have extra time to thoroughly clean the ship.

The previous week also had noro on that ship and we didn't board until late the first night.

Had so many pax and crew come down with it on our cruise the CDC ordered the ship back to port.

It wasn't my happy place. They made us whole and gave us a discount on a future cruise plus bought us airfare home. I lost my last week of vacation time that noro cruise.

Didn't put me off of cruising but I must say I would have rather been at work,:)

Seems pretty straightforward to me, but I'll explain further.

No, I have not invoked the guarantee nor could I think of a time when I would have.

Stating that the poop cruise wouldn't have been all that bad. Sign me up for one of those cruises where I get my fare refunded, plus that same amount for a future cruise and $500 cash as in the Triumph cruise. I'm all about it.

I haven't but I was prepared with a print out of the guarantee last August. We took my brother, sister in law, niece and 2 nephews on a cruise. My sister in law had said that she had never wanted to cruise and got my niece very worked up to the point my brother warned me they may not even board the ship. I had the details of that guarantee in hand in case they got on the ship and decided it wasn't for them.

Only two Carnival cruises so far but no, absolutely not. I cant imagine it ever being that bad to give up on something in the first 24 hours that Ive been planning for over a year. I will not go as far as to say that "any day on a cruise ship is better than no cruise at all" though. I use to think that even after Carnivals problems up until I saw all the videos and pics of Anthem of the Seas after she sailed directly through a hurricane they could have avoided. I have NO desire to be on a cruise like that.

I've had food poisoning twice (on the Westerdam and on the Carnival Dream). The one on the Dream was fairly benign, but on the Westerdam I wanted to die. I didn't want to be on a ship and I was ready to get off at the next port of call. Every little bit of motion made me run back to the bathroom. Thankfully, within 24 hours I was back to normal and enjoying the cruise again, but while I was sick, I just couldn't say "any day on a cruise is better than a a day on land".

I was actually thankful that since I was that sick that I was on the ship. One trip to medical (free of charge although I did have insurance just in case), and I was feeling a million times better in no time. No way would I have gotten in a car at home to go to the Dr. I went on my way with generic Pepto Bismol, Pedialyte, and Zofran. Now I have a prescription for Zofran and keep it in my first aid kit. It instantaneously cured my vomiting. Wonderful stuff!

Things would have to go down hill pretty quick for me to consider abandoning my vacation that I had waited so long for. Not to mention, I have already taken the week off work and flown to the embarkation port...

I've often wondered if it was bad enough to invoke the guarantee, if miraculously things that couldn't be solved quickly are.

I've often wondered that also, about our specific situation. I had the impression that the Hotel Services Manager HAD to sign off on the room-change, but once he did, it was handled really well; they even sent a crewman to our cabin to assist us with moving our luggage. The new stateroom was a balcony, too; we HAD been in an upsold oceanview.

In fairness, there was probably no way for Carnival to know that a room was available until later that evening when the pax were confirmed as no-shows. Carnival might have had to contact them to see if they were going to try to board at our first port-of-call.

I'm certain the room had been booked by no-shows; we received a few surprises in the room -- like chocolate-covered strawberries -- that were not intended for us.

The guarantee was strengthened or improved a few years ago, too. The refund is now 110% of the purchase price, up from 100%. Also, regarding "Carnival's expense," they now pay for your travel home upfront, instead of having you pay and then reimbursing you later. That's a significant change.

MArch 2015. Conquest. Had inside cabin assigned by Carnival. Over the music station of the casino. Volume and boom boom boom of bass unrelenting, and stupendously loud. It honestly shook the walls when you touched them and the vibrations entered the bed springs and radiated up through the mattress into the pillow and your head. Seriously. Went to guest relations. No cabins elsewhere. We told them it was intolerable, and we would be using our guarantee. First stop was on day three as second day was at sea. Guest relations told us they know which cabins get nappies complaints, and were not at all surprised we were unhappy. Unpleasant night.

Next day received phone call from front desk. One couple had not boarded in maiami. They had confirmed that they were no shows, and were not planning to board at the next port. We got their cabin. A nice balcony. We stayed on, but would absolutely have left. They would fly us back to Miami, refund cruise fare, and we would have used the fare to stay a week in Miami before flying home on our planned return flight.

Beware of music! To their big credit, they never did say you went the base route by allowing us to pick the cabin...tooo bad!pp

Have you ever been on a Carnival cruise that was so bad that it, at least, made you think that it would be better to cut it short and take advantage of the Guarantee?

No, I have either loved, or enjoyed very much all my Carnival cruises taken between 2000, and 2016, and while there have occasionally been some annoyances or discomforts, I have never even thought of or considered doing that. I know that others have had miserable times for different reasons, but for me, No, have never considered it.

I believe you. When we sailed on the Dream, my mother in law came along and we booked her in a 1A single stateroom on deck 6 a couple of doors down from our stateroom.

On day 2, she mentioned that she could hear music in her cabin at night. So we went to check it out, and sure enough you could hear music coming from the main theater below. We realized that she had downplayed how bad it was. The walls of the cabin vibrated, and things on the table fell on the floor with the boom, boom as you described it. You just couldn't sleep through that.

I hand wrote a note (in Carnival Platinum stationery [emoji23]) and dropped it off at Guest Services in the morning before going ashore at our first port of call. By the time we got back on the ship that afternoon, they had already made arrangements to move my mother In law to a new stateroom on deck 11 (a standard inside) and they also sent someone to assist her with her luggage. In addition, they posted a $50 OBC to her account. I was beyond pleased at how promptly and efficiently Carnival responded to our complaint.

A few years back, I don't remember which ship, our room was directly below Lido, mid-ship. Every morning/evening when the deck stewards moved the furniture around, we would hear the scraping. On the night of the big deck party, we our ceiling shook and vibrated loudly with the folks dancing above. We switched the TV to the Lido deck camera. It was surreal watching all the party goers dancing, every time they jumped, the ceiling would shake.

Anyway, the lesson about room choice was learned. For the record, it did NOT ruin our vacation and we didn't complain about it. It's just a fun story to tell after the fact now :)

Yes, I invoked the Vacation Guarantee once. This was before the guarantee was improved a couple of years ago.

We were on Liberty and our stateroom wasn't receiving any air conditioning.

When I started reading this thread I thought, no way I would ever invoke the guaranty, but this would do it. No A/C in the Caribbean and I am gone. This is what the guaranty is really good for though, things get fixed miraculously when you invoke it.

If the Guarantee had existed on our first cruise (Fantasy), I would have invoked it. From our inside cabin, we could hear a door slamming repeatedly, all day and all night. Guest Services insisted nothing could be done, they could not find any problem in the pantry area behind our cabin. I wound up sleeping on the hallway carpet with a pillow and blanket. Oddly, Security never said anything. Eventually they sent us a 15% off a future cruise apology.

If we had left that cruise, I would never have cruised again - which would have been a huge shame since I've had several wonderful cruises since (and no more awful ones) :)

I haven't ever used it, but I wish I would have thought to on our cruise on the Dream as our room was so uncomfortably hot it was hard to sleep. It would have been nice to see if saying I wanted to use it would have miraculously got us a different room or got it actually fixed. Although we did enjoy our cruise and had a lot of fun at each port so I don't exactly regret staying.

Only one time and that was on the CCL Victory while they were refurbishing the ship AT SEA instead of drydocking it in Feb of this year....a move of GREED on behalf of CCL. They never informed us prior to the cruise that they were completely redoing the deck of cabins DIRECTLY above our cabin - all new furniture, carpeting etc. When we finally realized that this was ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT every single DAY of the cruise it was already too late per the guarantee in timing to invoke the 'guarantee'. However, we most certainly did write to CCL after we got home! It was truly a nightmare as they had been given permission to work 24/7 as they were behind schedule.

So to say that any day on a cruise ship is better than one at home....NOT TRUE in this case at all. Not able to sleep one night without the constant hammering, drilling, sawing and dropping of supplies on the metal floor right over our heads all day and night long....it was beyond AWFUL! At least at home if construction was going on, it would be next door, across the street, but not in a metal encased cabin 8 feet over our heads, 24/7....uggghhh!

To find the 'silver lining' in the cloud though, we had a brand new cabin, 1st occupants, completed just hours before we embarked, decorated just like our cabin on the Breeze and it was beautiful....... :loudcry:
