Where is Liberty and How are Things On board?

Wonder where she is heading? I just read online that the port of Galveston will not re-open until Tuesday, so it looks like two more sea days.

Probably the safest and best option since being able to fly/drive back home is a big consideration.

In case I'm missing something today is Friday. Tomorrow is Saturday whereby most of the next cruise passengers would probably under normal circumstances be making their way to Houston / Galveston area.

 

By saying it s okay not to make an update until Saturday means that if there are any changes to be made they are not giving the customer any room for change. They are asking those that drive down to drive into a potentially deadly situation whilst rescue teams and emergency responders try to head into these affected areas.

 

Also by not advising people on board they are diminishing their opportunities to change their travel plans back out especially if flying. If they can't get into port until Tuesday tell them now so they can try to get alternative arrangements made.

 

You state no one will know what it's like at this stage - it's a Hurricane and a very strong one at that. The enormity of it is not unexpected. You may be okay with having your plans changed by last minute decisions, but I feel for all those that have been trying to switch to other sailings etc to try to salvage what they can, whilst those on board have little idea of what will happen over the next few days.

 

My thoughts are with all those affected by Harvey.

A year ago we did a 2 week B2B aboard the Liberty and our car was sitting parked on the dock waiting for us. A couple of extra days on the cruise would not be bad for us (retired), but would our car still be there when we got back?? Come on Royal...let people know what's what!

We're on Liberty now. Left Cozumel on time. Captain is still saying we'll likely make it to port but kind of as an afterthought adds "if the port is open". Folks seem convinced everything is normal. I'm hopeful but not convinced. Wouldn't mind a few extra days (retired) but worried about vehicle.

Royal thinks they will make more money by going out to sea. They can open the casinos, and the shops. But they are NOT going back to Galveston until Tues, and the passengers should be told, also the next cruise passengers. This is NOT right or fair to all passengers. I feel that this is very bad management.

And your suggestion what should be done?

If they made a decision and then had to change it, they'd be criticized for that too. Probably by you

If they made the decision that Carnival made - you can wait and come to Galveston when we can dock and take a shorter cruise, or you can opt out of travel in these conditions and get a credit - I don't think they would get any criticism. As it is, saying that all is on schedule and then possibly have to back off that leaving travelers stranded in limbo presents much more exposure to criticism.

Why would they change the decision? People want definitive answers not wishy washy maybe situations filled with uncertainty. That's the point of decision making. You decide what will happen and then you stick to it. Even if the decision is erring on the side of caution.

 

If they said next cruise delayed to Tuesday then the decision is made. At least people know what they are working with.

If it did open for a while would all the folks disembarking have transportation to get wherever they were going (and would it be safe?) or would they simply be stranded at the port? In any case, it's hard to image they could gather all the necessary employees at the port on short notice for disembarkation/embarkation.

You should definitely be in charge. You obviously know when the storm will pass and the port will be able to accept ships again
