I have a crazy question to ask regarding the demographics of 11-night Med cruises

I am struggling with packing for our soon to be departure for B2B cruises. I know that the transatlantic portion will be loaded with cruisers who have many, many points with Celebrity. I am wondering if anyone might have a somewhat educated guess as to the make-up of the 11-night Med cruise before the TA.

Why do I ask you might say? Here is where the crazy part comes in. We were totally surprised and delighted to be invited to the luncheon for the most traveled passengers on one of our cruises which was a delightful - and dressy - event. If invited again we would love to go and hence my question. My DH would really rather not take a sport coat and since we are traveling light it would help. Anyone have any thoughts? ;):D

We will be on an 11-night Mediterranean cruise in October followed by a TA. At the end of the cruises we will be Elite +. My question is if anyone has any idea of the demographics of the Med cruises? My DH would prefer not to pack a sport coat which is fine with me as it helps to pack light, with one caveat. We once had a totally unexpected and delightful lunch for the most traveled passengers on one of our cruises and it was definitely a dressy event. We would most certainly like to attend if we were ever to be invited again and I believe at least a sport coat for men would be de rigueur, hence the question. With light packing it would be good to leave the jacket behind.....

I know that the TA will have MANY well traveled passengers but am wondering if anyone might have any kind of an idea about the Mediterranean itinerary. :):)

Since there's no longer any night on the ship that requires a sportcoat, they would not require one, even for a special lunch. On our last cruise we had dinner with the captain in Tuscan Grille on a chic night, and my husband did not have a sportcoat and was perfectly comfortable.

Did a 10 night Med cruise this past May and brought no suit or jacket and fit in perfectly fine. I wore a polo or collared shirt with nice jeans on most evenings (as did many others) and khaki-style slacks with collared shirt on Evening Chic nights (and I was not alone in that either). Wear what you feel comfortable wearing within ship guidelines (no t-shirts, shorts, flip-flops, etc.) and don't feel pressured to dress a certain way regardless of what some tell you here. If on a cruise you have time to worry what other people think about what you're wearing then you're clearly not having a fun enough time.

Most Med cruises are incredibly port intensive with long, active days ashore. We don't usually have the time or the energy to worry about getting very dressed up for evenings. I bring mix and match outfits. DH waits to see how much room is in the suitcase before deciding whether to bring a jacket.

Sregarding the demographics, there is absolutely no way to tell. Could be dozen Zeniths, could be none. The top cruiser could be an Elite Plus.

 

Sometimes the officers decide to have a lunch for top cruisers, sometimes a dinner. On a port intensive cruise probably a dinner but they don't need to have an Officer's Table at all.

In April we sailed on a TA. For the Chic night my DH wore good slacks, a dress shirt/tie/with a knit vest over it (the same vest he wore to keep warm in port, under his jacket). I have to say most of the men wore sport coats. However, my DH did not suffer any dirty looks in the MDR. We travel light, and it was such a relief to leave the sport coat at home.

The "Most Traveled Passengers Lunch" is s Princess event and is often discussed on that Cruise Critic Sub-Forum... Have never seen anything comparable on Celebrity; the "Top Cruiser" (or couple) on each sailing is acknowledged during an afternoon Captain's Club Recognition Event (broader attendance; most usually a cocktail party with entertainment)...

 

Best I know, Princess still does Formal Nights so as to perhaps account for the difference in dress... For the Celebrity event, smart casual dress is fine...

On our recent Constellation Greek Islands Cruise, there were only 115 Elite and Elite Plus pax. No Zenith pax. Top cruiser had around 1000 points.

As you say, you just can't tell.

Just off the Eclipse, we were invited to dine with the Captain along with the 'most cruised' guest on board. She was British and at the top end of E+. I would add we are E+ and don't expect an invite as 'most cruised' passenger for a long time! There are usually at least a few Zeniths on board. I think this Azores cruises was exceptional in that the vast majority of guests were British. First cruise we have ever experienced where it was not an American that was 'top'!

 

In terms of male dress at this meal, my husband and son wore suits, another family more 'dinner jacket'.....To be honest your husband would not have been out of place in a smart open necked shirt. The event was about mixing and socialising.....we didn't care about the dress of our companions we were more interested in their conversation!

 

We have spoken to many US passengers who visit Europe to tour a specific area, then do the last Med cruise of the season before returning home on the TA. I would think you are highly unlikely to be anywhere near top cruisers....

 

I assume you are aware that points are added post cruise so your status and perks will be E not E+. If you become E+ after your first cruise the Captains Club host will sort your E+ status for the second as it is unlikely to happen automatically.

No it wasn't.....It was a passing comment on introduction of the party members to each other by the Captain's Club host.

 

It was, however, important to the lady who had the highest points and was clearly (and quite rightly) enjoying some special treats!
