brother_unknown Posted November 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2017 Is there enough to see by just walking about? Or do we need transportation to get to any areas of interest? Also is there good snorkling from the beach near where we land?
Ski Mom 2 Posted November 24, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 24, 2017 Our beach picnic was on Pigeon Island. They brought over all the water toys and the food and drink flowed. We walked around the area and there were some ruins of a fort to see. There was also a very small bar that looked out over the ocean where we had a delicious rum punch and chatted with the bartender. It was a nice laid back day.
dandee2 Posted November 24, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 24, 2017 Great wifi at the bar. Hike to the top of the mountain for a great view (good shoes recommended and lots of water) There is also a very good restaurant (jambe de bois) a few meter away if you don't care about WS picnic. We're planning on visiting a nearby resort for lunch and to hang out on their beach. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Redtravel Posted November 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 27, 2017 Pigeon Island is fantastic. The ship tenders and takes everyone to the best beach party. It is a highlight of a cruise. Just hope that it doesn't rain.
O2B@Cagain Posted November 28, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 28, 2017 So do you have time to do something before or after the beach party? Like hiking out to the fort?
Misty Morning Posted November 28, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 28, 2017 You will have plenty of time for everything as the ship is there a long time

Doh15 Posted March 18, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 18, 2018 I think the ship offers a hike as an excursion but is that any different from the hike you can do yourself? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
CoralReef Posted March 18, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2018 On my recent Windstar cruise, the Windstar excursion was the “Cas en Bas” trail. I think this is the same as http://www.royalcaribbean.com/shoreExcursions/product/detail/view.do?sourcePage=shorexByPort&ProductCode=SLJ8&DestinationCode= in which case it starts with a drive. Our Windstar call on Pigeon Island did get us free entry into the national park, and there were some short walks we could do there, but no real hikes. Doh15 Posted March 19, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Thanks! My sense (although I could be wrong) is that WS is putting more effort into pushing their excursions, but they don't give very much information on them and the prices can seem high. The hike up to fort Rodney and the hill can be strenuous during the day. Great view of the area. Bring lots of water. 2LoveToTravel Posted March 23, 2018 #13 Share Posted March 23, 2018 You really don't need a tour, as the day is full with beaching....water toys....walk to the fort, and fabulous BBQ. It is one of our favorite days.
6rugrats Posted March 23, 2018 #14 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Not all of the itineraries that stop at Pigeon Island have this as their beach day. Ours didn’t.
2LoveToTravel Posted March 23, 2018 #15 Share Posted March 23, 2018 You are right. On the B2B last month on the Surf out of Barbados, one week the beach party was in Mayreau (fabulous beach) and we visited Pigeon Island another day, and the other week the beach party was at Pigeon Island. Back to St Maarten next year, we will be at Prickly Pear Beach on Virgin Gorda. Hope the beach party will be there. A beautiful beach! Love the Windsurf!
