aotmc Posted December 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2017 Not then, but they did offer a complementary glass of champagne (or ginger ale) the first full day at the captains toast (right before the nights show in the theater)

SusieKay Posted December 11, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 11, 2017 We had a complimentary bottle of champagne from the captain in our Neptune Suite when we arrived. Glasses were also offered to suite guests in the Neptune Lounge upon embarkation. We sailed the Nieuw Amsterdam at Thanksgiving. Krazy Kruizers Posted December 11, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 11, 2017 When we first started to sail on HAL, we were offered a glass of champagne (1996) when we boarded the ship no matter what category we were in. That ended a few years later. All passengers in the Neptune Suites and Pinnacle Suites do get a complimentary bottle of sparking wine in their cabins. Pinnacle Suites actually get a better bottle of champagne in their cabins. HAL started having complimentary glasses of sparkling wine in the Neptune Lounge around 2011. CruiserBruce Posted December 11, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 11, 2017 Other than the aforementioned champagne in the Neptune Lounge and our Neptune Suites, the last time I can recall getting champagne at boarding was 3 or 4 years ago we boarded the Inca Explorer cruise on Statendam in Lima, for the second half of that 31 day cruise. There were only about 100 joining the ship at the halfway point, and they sort of channeled the boarding so most of that 100 boarded between 12 and 1pm. Dock facilities were very industrial, so other than the bag scan, all boarding procedures were done in the main show lounge, where there was a fair amount of champagne to help us through the rigors of check in and getting our cruise cards. ger_77 Posted December 11, 2017 #12 Share Posted December 11, 2017 As nice as it seems, for some of us it would be a little inconvenient to be handed a glass of champagne upon boarding. I usually have my purse in one hand with my just-used key card, and my rolling carry-on in the other, leaving nothing free to hold the champagne. If I did take a glass, chances are I'd spill it by shuffling things around before I had the chance to drink it. I'd rather have a complimentary drink when I get to the Lido deck at sail-away. Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)
DeeniEncinitas Posted December 11, 2017 #13 Share Posted December 11, 2017 What I loved was both on The Windstar cruise in Europe as well as Seabourn they stood at the entrance to getting on board with champagne and escorted you to the main lobby with appitizers and meeting the Captain and officers! Loved it. Never on HAL since we have been cruising with them last 10years. Denise:)

Happily@Sea Posted December 11, 2017 #15 Share Posted December 11, 2017 Used to get one on Cunard in the "good old days" when we dressed up to board!:) I had a small bottle of champagne in my room on QM2 but that might have been for the BIG celebration of her 'Remastering' last summer [2016]. All three Queens were in Southampton that day.

There's enough going on upon embarkation without having to deal with such an amenity, in my opinion. Mariners ought to be aware that a Mariner's Reception is sometimes available in the Crow's Nest around 1:30-2:30 P. M. on Sailing Day. This is a much more civilized way to being "Welcomed Aboard", I think.

ithaca gal Posted December 11, 2017 #24 Share Posted December 11, 2017 If a Guest is accustomed to a Glass of champagne upon boarding, It is only natural to be a bit disappointed to find that another line doesn’t offer the same. We step on board with a free hand and wouldn’t mind being offered a Mimosa! :)
