Passengers killed in bus accident

Terrible news. Hope we find out what really happened to that bus. Could be anything....mechanical, driver, blowout, another vehicle that fled the scene, animal in the road. Whatever it was, prayers for those directly and indirectly involved. This will put a major damper on the rest of the cruise for the remaining passengers on both those ships.

Serenade has sailed. Celebrity is still there and I saw couple passengers from accident getting off with their luggage. I travel with my kids/grand kids at times. We even did Mexico Ruins tour last yr on one of those buses. I can not even imagine what those people are going threw....

What a horrible tragedy! This hits close to home...I’ve been on both ships and have stopped in Costa Maya multiple times. I’m sure the mood on both ships will be very somber tonight. The victims and the loved ones they left behind will be in my heart and prayers.[emoji22]

Or was drinking...my husband who is Hispanic Just told me the few times we were in Mexico and on a bus he heard conversations on how the drivers did not make it home until 3 or 4 in the morning after drinking all night! I hope this was not the cause.

 

 

These were not cruise related tours ..but looks like it is an accepted practice. We were lucky, made it to our destination. We do not go to Mexico any more.

When I first heard about this, I thought there must've been a huge cliff that the bus went down for so many people to die at once. Turns out the terrain was nice and flat with vegetation on both sides. I cannot even imagine how hard the bus would've had to hit on it's side for people to die like that. It's just crazy!

 

I feel so badly for those that have survived because this is one memory that will be very, very hard to get out of their minds for a very long time. Just imagine being on a tour like this with your loved one and having them die in front of you. Poor people! <|3

My brother is on Equinox with his wife. I talked them into going to Chacchoben. We got no answers from the shore side information line. I called the ship and asked to be connected to their room. The operator told me that they were involved in the accident, but that she had no further information about their condition. I'm on hold with the shore side office now, trying to find out about their status. Please pray.

All of our thoughts and prayers are with the families and those that lost a dear friend. Authorities will figure it out. But, don't start rumors that the driver of the bus was drunk or fell asleep. In my 10 years here, this has never happened. Those buses have or supposed to have a speed limiter which won't let them go faster than 90 Kilometers per hour. That is the law here for buses. The road speed limit is 90 Kilometers. so good chance it wasn't speeding. More likely a tire blow out or an animal darting across the road and the drive trying to miss it. That is more likely on that road.

Thanks for sharing and agree, don't jump to conclusions or start rumors.. It just makes it harder on friends and family.

Hopefully RCI will let guests use internet or phones to call home to assure loved ones. It's the least they could do.

Two of my friends are on Serenade now. I so hope they did not decide to take this tour. They had not made any plans prior to sailing other than enjoy the casino. Now I will have to worry until the ship returns.
