Smoking in Brilliance casino

Casinos love smokers.

If you are compulsive enough to undertake a pastime that statistically will kill you then you are the sort of person who will undertake a pastime that statistically will see you parted from your money.

Sensible complaining types about wafting smoke and poor ventilation probably arent the the sort of person who would then recklessly drop $2k on roulette in an afternoon.

Not saying it’s right but knowing Royal I am guessing that’s how we are all profiled.

I have to agree with you. Smoking , drinking, and gambling are a winning combination...for the cruise line, that is. ;p

We were on the Radiance Alaska cruise in early June of this year. The weather was cold and rainy most of the cruise, so all the smokers sat in the casino and smoked all day. The whole Centrum and even upper floors were choking with smoke.

Pretty much ruined my desire to board another Radiance class ship.

I hope my upcoming Vision cruises are not the same.

We were onboard Radiance March 2017 out of Sydney. There was no smoking allowed anywhere inside the ship, including the casino due to Australian laws. There were three smoking areas outside, which nonsmokers avoided. The ship had been operating out of Australia since late September 2016. There was no residual smell in the casino or any other part of the ship. It was great.

RC needs to follow Celebrity's lead and due away with no smoking in the casino. Maybe someday. Glad the no smoking on the balcony was implemented on both RC and Celebrity.
Yeah, well that's because it was a fire hazard. Of course people still do it but can be tossed off the ship for being repeat offenders.

Same as on other ships, smoky.

You need to sail on Celebrity to have smoke free casinos.

Our cruise on Celebrity was the first time we have spent time in the casino in many cruises. The last time we spent an evening in a Royal Caribbean casino I was sick for a couple days afterward from inhaling all the smoke. I really wish Royal would go smoke free.

We cruised with a group of 20 on Celebrity -- several smokers -- they all said they didn't mind at all going out for a smoke.

We were onboard the Radiance this past March on an Australian/New Zealand cruise. There was no smoking anywhere inside the ship. The ship was full of passengers. There were multiple smoking areas outside, with at least one covered from the elements. What a pleasure to be able to walk through the entire ship and not be overpowered by the smell of cigarettes.

Hopefully, one day soon out of US Ports.

Just think about the poor casino workers who have no choice and put up with it every night.

They do have a choice. All of us have a choice. They chose to work in a casino (most casinos allow smoking and very generously so, especially outside of the US) and on a cruise ship. If they don't like it, they also have a choice to break their contract and leave. There are consequences to each choice, but they still have the choice.

I love Radiance class ships as my favorite...but indeed hate the set up with the casino being right next to the centrum with that big wide open door way.

The smoke billows up like a chimney through the whole centrum and all the floors near it. Can't stand being near the centrum on a sea day especially.

Need doors on the casino to keep the smoke from coming out of there. So much for clean inside air in the ship.

Smoking in the casino saves me money. Think about that statement. More people do not smoke, than do smoke. I think maybe I read only 17% of adults now smoke. If it keeps smokers in the casino, than it also keeps non-smokers out of the casino. This argument was made with restaurants. After 6 months of people crying over new laws, at making restaurants smoke free, the restaurants discovered they are making more money. They lost some customers but gained many more. They also discovered the tables turned more often, because smokers needed to get out to do their habit, freeing up space. Casino's are the same. Less smoke, others will stay longer, and gamble more. The majority of people are non-smokers, therefore, they should cater to the majority, and not the minority. It's not going to be long now before you see some changes. Hopefully soon, because I have a wad of money, that I would like to donate to the ship.

Unfortunately, Royal says they lose 30% of revenue when smoking is banned. This is data based on Enchantment September 2016 experiment, which I took part in. It was very nice having a smoke free Casino.

Our time will come and probably in my lifetime.

Totally agree...having asthma keeps me out of the casino and my hands out of my nest egg.;)

I think you are right! We didn’t go to bars and nightclubs for years because of the smoke. It’s so nice now to be able to go out now and not come home smelling like a cigarette. And it sure hasn’t hurt business in the places we go. Wish Royal would wake up and go with what’s best for the majority of their passengers.

It appears it hasn't hurt Celebrity Cruise line either.

I don't find Anthem smokey at all ......................................

I think this varies by cruise but the Anthem casino itself smells badly of stale smoke even when empty. On my 5 night to Canada, the casino was more crowded and smokier. On my recent 9 night, with a significant number of Orthodox Jews, the casino was not as busy, and there were far fewer smokers. I lived on my balcony and never smelled smoke, and the outdoor smoking bus stop was really quiet. Anthem's design does a good job of keeping the smell of smoke in the casino and not out into other areas.

These experiments are flawed and half-hearted. They spring the no smoking policy unannounced. The people that smoke in the casino, or smoke and gamble in the casino (yes, that is 2 different groups!) definitely find out about the experiment when they go the casino. But all the people that never go near the casino to avoid the smoke never learn the casino is smoke free, and so never step foot in it anyway. Or if they do learn, its only once they are on board and perhaps without their gambling bank role with them.

If they were serious about seeing how this would work, they would announce several cruises would be smoke free a year in advance. They might be in for a surprise in how fast those booked up, and how well the casino revenues would do on those cruises.

No one smokes in there?

Maybe on the cruise Karma was on but there were plenty of passengers using the slot areas as an indoor smoking area, therefore just sitting and not playing the slot machine they were at, on the Anthem cruise we did last month.

Saved us money as the only thing we pretty well did in the casino was to play our free spins and complimentary bets, $5 each, before we left each time we were there. We, actually DW as she likes the slots, maybe played 10 minutes with our own money before we left because of the smoking on another visit to the Anthem casino.

We did win $38 with those complimentary bets so it was worth the 15 minutes or so we put up with the smoky atmosphere then and DW was even on her play.

For the 8 days left on our 12 night cruise we avoided going into the casino :)
