No more Dominican Republic port visits?

I was looking at our cruise for June 2018. Princess has removed Dominican Republic-Amber Cove port from the itinerary. We were looking forward to visiting this port. They put a sea day in its place. Do you think there is a liking hood Princess will add it back in? Or does anyone know why Princess is no longer calling on Amber Cove Dominican Republic?

My 2018 cruise has Amber Cove listed.

What ship are you sailing? Our March cruise on the Caribbean Princess had Amber Cove removed from the original itinerary to compensate for this ships ongoing propulsion issues, which causes the ship to reduce its maximum speed. However, we were informed of this change by Princess.

We really enjoyed Amber Cove last week.

A lot of passengers didn't realize or aware that the loungers, pool, hammocks & water slides were free.

They might not have even known the pool was there, since it's out of sight from the many shops.

The pool area was deserted. Look for the loungers in the water......aaahh

Here's a secret (thanks to a previous poster).....at the end of the zipline, there's a crew store that sells beer, pop, snacks, toiletries, etc at a discounted price.

There's a decent beach next to Amber Cove, that you could almost throw a rock to, but it's fenced off and patroled.

However, it's an easy 15 to 20 min. walk outside of Amber Cove to reach the beach.

Someone will offer to help you with loungers, but they're free to use.

There are a few shops, bar and restroom (free!!) at the beach.

Very nice and big pool but kind of difficult to get shaded lounge. We got there early and hard to get access to wifi unless you purchase an alcoholic drink. Not something we really wanted to do at 8 am.

There was a pharmacy nearby with a mob of people standing outside so they must offer free wifi.

Or they started drinking at 8 AM and needed medical assistance!

Amber Cove beach day also includes buffet lunch. Stay within the confines of Amber Cove beach. The rest of DR can be dangerous if you venture out on your own.

Enjoy your cruise.

Seeing as this port represents a huge investment by and for CCL' date=' it would likely take a major local incident to remove it from CCL itineraries. After visiting once I'm not sure a sea day is a bad alternative.[/quote']

We've been there as well and agree with the one and done approach. Port area is the standard cruiser trap and then it quickly goes to poverty island. The people on the dune buggy excursion looked like they had fun. I can't remember what we did but it involved some locals dancing and lunch after visiting a farm I think. Next time we would probably do the port and head back to relax on the ship. Most of the excursions, in every port, have turned into money grabs.
