bUU Posted January 8, 2018 #151 Share Posted January 8, 2018 ... some streaming sources like SlingBox will be excluded. Interesting. I don't believe that this is intended to block alternatives for consumers, but rather to protect the network from being over-burdened by streaming entertainment. It is a shared resource, and if they're not metering it by MB/GB then they have to employ other measures of network management.
dabear99211 Posted January 8, 2018 #152 Share Posted January 8, 2018 The cabin stations now on the Carnival ships are TNT, Discovery, ESPN, ESPN2, CNN, HNN and other sport and entertainment channels along with movies.

Pellaz Posted January 8, 2018 #155 Share Posted January 8, 2018 HiFrom what I have been told on their boards, the people who sail with RCL can get faster speeds than home. They are able to stream anything they want. I think the operative word here is "can." I certainly haven't been so lucky on RCCL. I'll be on the Indy in a few weeks and I'll be getting the internet plan...not without strong reservations...so I'll be able to experience their "new and improved" WiFi firsthand. We shall see. Meanwhile my experience with Carnival's WiFi has been pretty positive. I didn't attempt to stream TV shows and they are clear in stating that none of their packages allows it, but for voice-calling home using FB Messenger, it worked just fine. (Vista cruise was the exception; FB worked great but my email wouldn't load.) As I said before, this means that when choosing a cruise and one cruise line doesn't offer something that somebody thinks is important you just need to look at which competitor does. This would include television stations, as well. I know it is easier to just complain, but it won't likely get you what you want.In fairness, there HAVE been times when guests' complaints (both here on CC and in general) have effected changes. Complaining CAN make a difference.
winddawn Posted January 9, 2018 #156 Share Posted January 9, 2018 The cabin stations now on the Carnival ships are TNT, Discovery, ESPN, ESPN2, CNN, HNN and other sport and entertainment channels along with movies. This was not my experience last week on Carnival Dream. These were the TV stations available in my cabin on Carnival Dream last week: CNN CNN International CNN in Spanish Headline News Boomerang Cartoon Network Turner Network Television (TNT) Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) Turner Classic Movies (TCM) True TV One complimentary movie channel however most of the time this channel only showed an advertisement for what was available on Pay Per View for $4.99 per movie
winddawn Posted January 9, 2018 #157 Share Posted January 9, 2018 I'm curious, did they still show any of the NFL playoff games anywhere on the ship yesterday? On Carnival Dream this past weekend (January 6), the only place to view NFL playoff games was on the small screens behind the casino bar. And there were so many people packed in there trying to watch, there wasn't even standing room available, and the cigarette smoke was very thick. I kept checking on January 6th and the first available viewing was the second half of the Tennessee Titans-Kansas City Chiefs game (the first half of the game wasn't shown). At Guest Services, I inquired the day before that game if it would be shown on the Lido big screen and was told no. So all I was able to watch was the second half of the Titans-Chiefs game, and that was a struggle due to the crowds and smoke. With this new lack of availability of channels on Carnival, college and NFL football fans need to be aware the games are not available as they have been in the past. The new channel lineup in Carnival cabins: CNN CNN International CNN in Spanish Headline News Boomerang Cartoon Network Turner Network Television (TNT) Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) Turner Classic Movies (TCM) True TV One complimentary movie channel however most of the time this channel only showed an advertisement for what was available on Pay Per View for $4.99 per movie

ajtrigger Posted January 10, 2018 #160 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Coevan, if it helps, I am currently on board the Miracle (1/6). All four playoff wildcard games were aired in staterooms and public bars. Fox, ABC, CBS, and NBC have not been removed from the Miracle as of yet. The NCAA championship game on ESPN was not available in staterooms (since ESPN isn’t on the channel lineup), but was shown in public bars (sports bar, casino, Red Frog, etc). Hope this helps. Most cardio machines are linked into the tv system. Here in Australia the only place where we can watch our football is in The Sports-Bar, Casino & in the gym on cardio machines. I regular watch English soccer during a morning work-out. With the time differences. We get NBA matches at our lunch time.. We have 2 ships & both you can watch sport in the gym. Strange but True.. Garth2 Posted January 10, 2018 #163 Share Posted January 10, 2018 I sailed B2B for 14 nights on the Breeze. I turned the TV off when we entered the cabin the 1st day & never turned it back on again. cruisinmeme Posted January 11, 2018 #164 Share Posted January 11, 2018 We sailed NCL in late November thru early December for 9 days and NOTHING worth watching. All the stations GONE. To make matters worse the NCL Pearl did not even have the set up to rent movies. I know this is minor issue to the crowd that doesn't watch tv but their are people that use this as a relaxation. sept2405 Posted January 11, 2018 #165 Share Posted January 11, 2018 No more free room service between 10pm to 6am. The reason they are giving is too much wasted food. It will cost from $2 to $6.On top of that anything ordered pre cruise that is sent to your cabin a 15% fee will be added to it. So the high dollar liquor will be even more expensive. Rare LMaxwell Posted January 11, 2018 #167 Share Posted January 11, 2018 I guess I'll just have to stick to the" forward deck cam channel" ---- Hey, side note, what's with these bow and deck cameras being the resolution of a 1987 security camera? High resolution all weather cameras that would do 720p (probably what the flat panel TV's in the rooms are) would only be a few bucks. I'd like to see that upgrade. Just saying. stevefrisco Posted January 16, 2018 #170 Share Posted January 16, 2018 I'm not sure what's most upsetting, TV cutbacks, room service cutbacks or the fact that they hired Shaq as a brand ambassador almost all simultaneously. I kind of feel bad for being so hard on the people who thought the tables clothes and chocolates were such a big deal.

I turned the TV off when we entered the cabin the 1st day & never turned it back on again. Too many better things to do on the ship. I went once to adult comedy and hated it. I've never set foot in the casino or played bingo. I have zero interest in the gym or the running track. Too many better things to do on the ship. :D I don't watch TV on a cruise ship, but sports are different than TV. If you're not a sports fan, you don't understand, and that's fine. Every cruise we've sailed on, Carnival has done an excellent job airing major sporting events, even when they ran into challenges with the feeds. I'm surprised that seems to be changing? As for why people sail when sporting events are on, many of us are limited in when we can sail based on school and work schedules. Our county's spring break is the same week as the Final Four every single year. And we have fond memories of watching it onboard. Thankfully, it's on TBS this year!
